“ | I understand love and I say to you... love is worthless. I've never needed anyone to satisfy me. I eat when I wanna eat, play with what amuses me, and kill whoever's in my way. I live as befits my nature. If no one can grasp that, then that's their problem. | „ |
~ Sukuna sharing his philosophy to Kashimo. |
“ | Ah! I knew it! The light feels best in the flesh! Cursed flesh is so boring! So now, where are the people?! The women?! What a wonderful era to reawakened! Women and children are crawling everywhere like maggots! How marvelous! It'll be a massacre! | „ |
~ Sukuna upon incarnating inside Yuji Itadori’s body after the latter ate his finger. |
Ryomen Sukuna, also known as the King of Curses, is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Kenjaku) of the manga/anime series Jujutsu Kaisen. He is the master of Uraume, and the archenemy of Yuji Itadori and Satoru Gojo.
The strongest sorcerer in history, Sukuna, turned himself into a cursed object a thousand years ago by transferring his soul into his twenty indestructible fingers. He is resurrected into modern times when Yuji Itadori eats one of those fingers, making him able to possess the boy's body. It is later revealed that Jin Itadori, Yuji's father, was Sukuna's twin brother in his previous incarnation, making Yuji his "nephew" and descendant. This also explains why Sukuna is incapable of possessing Yuji's whole body at will.
He is voiced by Junichi Suwabe in Japanese (who also voiced Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez in Bleach and Hermes in Record of Ragnarok) and by Ray Chase in English (who also voiced Choso in the same series, Fyodor Dostoevsky in Bungo Stray Dogs, Rustal Elion in Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans, Rubber Soul in JoJo's Bizarre Adventures: Stardust Crusaders, Gabriel May in Malignant, Bishop Mozgus in Berserk, Roswaal Mathers in Re:Zero, and Dr. Genus in One-Punch Man).
Appearance[]
Sukuna is a tall and muscular man with four arms, four eyes, and a large mouth on his stomach. He has short pink-red hair and red eyes, with his two right eyes being angled differently and located on a white flesh plate-like structure on the right side of his face. His body is also covered in tattoos, which manifest on his vessel whenever he is in control and is naturally present in his true form. The tattoos are mostly black lines on his wrists, upper arms, upper body, abdomen, and face. Black dots are also tattooed on each of his shoulders. When these tattoos manifest on a vessel with two arms, the lines encircling the upper arms and wrists are doubled, and circles form around the black dots on the shoulders. Sukuna's monstrous appearance led many to describe him as a demon with four arms and two faces. In the past and present, Sukuna only wears a pair of pants, as his unique body prevents him from wearing clothes for the upper body.
Previously, he used to take on the appearance of his former host, Yuji Itadori, but with pink spiked hair slightly pushed upfront and his tattoos manifested. His incarnation also caused Yuji to have a second pair of eyes underneath his normal eyes, which were usually closed but opened when he took control. Inside his innate domain, Sukuna wore a light-colored kimono with a black edge, a black scarf, and black sandals.
After incarnating in Megumi Fushiguro, he took on his appearance but had his black spiked hair pushed upfront as well. Similar to Yuji, a second pair of eyes grew underneath his normal eyes, and his tattoos manifested on Megumi's body. He wore a black haori with a white kimono and black undershirt underneath tied together with a black belt, white pants, and black sandals. He discarded the haori during his battle with Satoru Gojo.
Personality[]
“ | I owe you a debt, after all. When I make this kids body mine you'll be the first one I kill! | „ |
~ Sukuna telling Gojo that he would kill him. |
Sukuna is selfish, cruel, cold-hearted, immoral, hedonistic, egotistical, and exceptionally sadistic. When he was reincarnated shortly after Yuji ingested his finger, he was thrilled by the abundance of women and children to slaughter and likened them to maggots crawling around. He never cares about the consequences of his actions, even if they affect his host, Yuji Itadori. In fact, he frequently taunts and insults Yuji, calling him a brat and even laughing at or enjoying Yuji's despair on multiple occasions, and his vindictive side means he always looks for any opportunity to make his host suffer for being unable to control his body. While taking most things in casually cruel stride, he does have a temper. When angered, Sukuna has shown a much more stoic and cold side to himself, putting aside his usual evil smiles and having a scowl on his face while making his fury clear with swift retaliations.
Sukuna is aware of his immense power and is quite arrogant about it, brutalizing a finger-bearer while patronizing and proclaiming his superiority over it. For this reason, he is highly dismissive of his opponents and rarely takes them seriously, even explicitly stating he would kill Satoru Gojo to his face. However, despite his brutish, bloodthirsty, and dismissive attitude, Sukuna is actually incredibly intelligent, perceptive, and cunning, and he is surprisingly clever, as he took advantage of his host's unconsciousness to take full control over his body and rip out his heart in order to kill him, but kept his mind alive in case it failed. He was also able to pray on Yuuji’s confidence to trick him into fighting him and accepting a binding vow when he lost. Sukuna is also quick to analyze situations and draw correct conclusions, as displayed by the fact that he deduced Megumi's potential usefulness to himself and kept him alive.
Sukuna has also displayed a rather battle-hungry side to himself, constantly showing enjoyment whenever fighting an opponent or a challenge. While frequently taunting his enemies upon easily overwhelming them, Sukuna is by no means brutally straight-forward in a fight and is quite pragmatic and analytical in a fight, opting to take his time to analyze the abilities of his enemy rather than just instantly charging on them before decimating them with ease after understanding their capabilities and flaunting them. His constant battling in the golden age of sorcery means it is easy for him to figure out what sorcery and abilities his enemies would have, so Sukuna is shown to be quite interested when an enemy defies his expectations or has quite intriguing abilities, as displayed by how he found Megumi's Ten Shadows Technique and surprising skill in close quarters quite impressive and since then took an interest in him.
Despite all this, Sukuna does have somewhat a more respectable side: He values and acknowledges the strength of formidable opponents, as shown by how he considered Gojo as his top priority and simply laughed when remembering how easily Gojo defeated Jogo, as if he didn't expect anything else from him, and later on, despite easily overpowering him, he acknowledged Jogo was quite powerful and that he should be proud. Furthermore, after killing Satoru Gojo, he told him he had done well and would never forget him. He also appears to have something of a close relationship with Uraume, his loyal and only subordinate, as he refers to them with casual politeness.
“ | The idea that a weakling far, far below me can rival me with nothing but strength of will and maintained ideals... that is something deeply unpleasant. | „ |
~ Sukuna expressing his socially darwinistic beliefs and distaste for Yuji's ideals. |
As the series goes on, it becomes abundantly clear that Sukuna absolutely despises Yuji Itadori down to the very fiber of his being. To Sukuna, Yuji was born from the reincarnation of a twin who never should have existed. He awoke Sukuna from his 1000-year slumber, but instead of allowing him to wreak havoc by fighting people as he did in the Heian era, Yuji imprisons Sukuna inside his body, forcing the King of Curses to watch helplessly from inside the boy's soul as Yuji lives his day-to-day life. Yuji manages to become a legitimately accomplished sorcerer, not through the hedonistic love of fighting that Sukuna lives for, but instead through a dedication to a higher purpose that Sukuna finds so boring and distasteful. Yuji holds absolutely zero respect for Sukuna and sees him as nothing more than a curse who needs to die, but, unlike so many other sorcerers of that same mindset, Sukuna cannot manage to break the boy or his idealism. On top of all of that, while Sukuna would never admit it, Yuji is a genuinely strong sorcerer who has latent potential on par with Sukuna himself. During the climactic battle in Shinjuku, Sukuna decides to carry on where Kenjaku left off and proceed with the merger purely out of spite against Yuji and also to force Yuji and the other Culling Game players fight against him. However, because he refuses to take Yuji seriously during the battle (as doing so would be admitting to himself that Yuji is actually strong), Yuji eventually manages to turn the tables on Sukuna and tear into him with an onslaught of Black Flashes. Despite Sukuna's typical love of battle, he is absolutely malding because Yuji is the one getting the better of him, yelling at the boy in impotent rage as he had taken too much damage to meaningfully counter his attacks.
Beneath Sukuna's grandiose persona, however, is that of a fundamentally empty individual with zero goals, motivations, or ideals. By Sukuna's own admission, he actively despises having any ideals and so lives for nothing other than base hedonism. The closest thing Sukuna has to a goal in his life is to pass the time until he inevitably dies, fighting strong opponents and killing them once he gets bored. Ironically, for as much as he despises the boy, Yuji is probably the only person whom Sukuna views as an individual rather than merely a source of entertainment. With every other person, Sukuna only cares about them insofar as they entertain him, yet Yuji's very existence actively offends him. It's only out of active spite against Yuji that Sukuna gains anything coming close to an actual aspiration, namely to crush the boy's idealism.
Power and Skill Level[]
Regarded as the King of the Curses, Sukuna is considered to be the strongest sorcerer of the entire series and possesses both overwhelming levels of power and extraordinary levels of skill. In the past, he was regarded as the most powerful sorcerer of the Golden Age of Jujutsu and had killed many powerful sorcerers before ultimately making himself a cursed object and slumbering. His curse is so strong that the 20 fingers he split his soul into are indestructible even with the best efforts of the jujutsu sorcerers of both the old and current times.
In the present, even with his limited power due to not having eaten all of the fingers, Sukuna still remains a formidable lethal threat, and Geto's group of cursed spirits saw his complete awakening as being capable of ensuring the success of their plans. He proved capable of effortlessly defeating special-grade curses. With just two fingers, he completely outmatched and defeated a Finger Bearer. With more fingers, he seriously injured Mahito when angered and left the latter terrified at his might. With 15 fingers, Sukuna easily defeated Jogo without much struggle and even managed to defeat Mahoraga, something no user of the Ten Shadows technique and even a member of the Gojo Family with the Six Eyes couldn't do. Even Satoru Gojo acknowledged Sukuna's strength and considered a fight between them as being difficult even for him, while Yuji believed that with Satoru sealed away, only Yuta Okkotsu, a special-grade sorcerer that is second only to Gojo Satoru in the modern era, could challenge and defeat him if he goes on a rampage.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Immeasurable Cursed Energy: Being regarded as the King of Curses, Sukuna possesses overwhelmingly massive reserves of cursed energy that make him capable of making continuous use of his cursed techniques without any strain. At the peak power of 20 fingers, his reserves far exceed those of any other known sorcerer, including the modern special grade sorcerer that is known for having higher cursed energy reserves than even Gojo Satoru himself, Yuta Okkotsu. His presence upon awakening could be felt throughout Shibuya. Simply exerting his cursed energy alone could easily overcome Mahito's efforts to use Idle Transfiguration on Yuji and even destroy his domain expansion. Sukuna's cursed energy is potent enough that those who have felt it could compare it to the strongest sorcerer of the modern era, Gojo Satoru, just by feeling vestiges of it while being intimidated by how overwhelmingly more evil and sinister it is.
- Cursed Technique and Immense Cursed Energy Control: Sukuna has tremendous control over his cursed energy, being the only one that can match Gojo Satoru's cursed energy efficiency, which is boosted by the occular technique Six Eyes with pure skills. He is also capable of adjusting the intensity of his attacks based on the target. Sukuna has proven to be unique in that, apparently, due to his ancient history, he has access to multiple cursed techniques that are not widely known.
- Reverse Cursed Techniques: Sukuna has proven quite well-versed in the healing power that comes with cursed energy. He is one of the rare sorcerers that can use the reverse curse technique and even output the positive energy gained by it, which is even rare. He is capable of effortlessly restoring limbs in an instant and even has the ability to revive himself and Yuji while they were both near death by recreating Yuji's heart. Sukuna's healing of others is also quite capable. He mocked Yuji by confirming he could save Junpei from Mahito's Idle Transfiguration but just didn't and easily healed Megumi from the state of suspended death.
- Shrine: Sukuna's cursed technique allows him to launch slashes at various ranges to cut through objects and space, as well as unleash destructive flames.
- Dismantle: He is capable of using his cursed energy to slash at targets from both close and long range. It can both cut through inanimate objects and curse spirits with ease.
- World-Cutting Slash: Using Mahoraga's second adaptation to Limitless as a model, Sukuna learned to enhance Dismantle by extending its target area to the world itself, which bypassed Gojo's infinity, killing the latter.
- Cleave: Sukuna adjusts his slashing attack to fit the enemy's cursed energy level and toughness to cut them down in one fell swoop. Unless used in his domain expansion, Sukuna must make physical contact with the target in order to activate Cleave.
- Spiderweb: Sukuna can utilize the Cleave technique in the shape of a spider's web by touching the ground. As a variation of Cleave, Spiderweb adjusts itself to the surroundings' toughness, collapsing the ground in one fell swoop.
- Dismantle: He is capable of using his cursed energy to slash at targets from both close and long range. It can both cut through inanimate objects and curse spirits with ease.
- Divine Flame: What appears to be Sukuna's second cursed technique or a part of the Shrine seems to be the ability to use fire upon chanting "Open". This technique is so potent that it was able to overwhelm the special-grade disaster cursed spirit Jogo, whose defining trait involves extremely destructive pyrokinetic powers. The requirements of this technique involve that it can only be used after he performs Dismantle and Cleave.
- Piercing Blood: A technique that Sukuna copied from Choso. Sukuna used Maximum Elephant's water instead of blood against Gojo.
- Shrine: Sukuna's cursed technique allows him to launch slashes at various ranges to cut through objects and space, as well as unleash destructive flames.
- Domain Expansion: Malevolent Shrine: Sukuna's domain expansion is extremely refined and unique, taking the form of a Buddhist shrine that has been corrupted to enshrine a demon such as Sukuna himself. The shrine has horns on the roof, skulls hanging at each of the corners of the roof, mouths coming out of each side of it, and is surrounded by bull-shaped skulls. The technique is extraordinary in that it doesn't close the domain barrier, making it a truly divine technique, as the ability to realize one's innate domain without closing the barrier is akin to an artist drawing a masterpiece on the air instead of on a canvas. He allows an escape route from his domain, which naturally creates a binding vow that vastly increases the guaranteed hit's effective area with a maximum radius of nearly 200 meters, and he can narrow down the radius if desired, allowing him to utilize Cleave and Dismantle to relentlessly attack anything in its radius. The domain is set to automatically target any inanimate objects with dismantle and target anything with cursed energy with cleave.
- Innate Domain: Sukuna's soul exists independently within Yuji's body by residing within his innate domain. He said to think of it as if they were existing within his heart.
- Domain Amplification: Sukuna can amplify his cursed energy emission and aura to the point where it's similar to his own domain, allowing him to neutralize any cursed technique upon contact, even the likes of Satoru Gojo's Limitless.
- Master Hand-to-Hand Combatant: In addition to his plethora of curse techniques, Sukuna also has incredible skills in close-quarters combat in conjunction with extraordinary physical prowess, which he can combine with both cursed energy manipulation and his cursed techniques to further improve his efficiency. He is shown to be capable of easily overpowering the likes of Megumi with physical strikes alone and could easily inflict severe damage on special-grade curses of Jogo, Mahoraga, and Finger Bearer's level with hand-to-hand combat. Just his pure unarmed fighting skills are shown to be superior to that of Yuji, easily beating him to submission in their first scuffle by easily blocking all of his hits casually and seeing through his attempts to attack him from below before casually kicking him down, and while in Megumi's body, he astonished even Maki Zenin, a superhuman warrior, with just how skilled he is in close-range combat, being able to simultaneously fight both Yuji and Maki in close-range combat evenly, blocking most of their blows and successfully hitting Maki.
- Genius-Level Intelligence: Sukuna is an incredibly intelligent being. Having centuries of experience, upon defeating the Hasaba siblings, he was able to quickly understand the mechanises of their techniques in seconds.
- Master Strategist and Manipulator: Despite his brutish traits, Sukuna has proven himself to be a very cunning strategist and manipulator. Upon being given control, Sukuna quickly came up with a plan to kill Megumi by having the special grade cursed spirit do it for him, and when that failed and Yuji couldn't regain control, he swiftly came up with a plan to ensure Yuji couldn't retake control by holding Yuji's body hostage and tearing out his heart, which helped force him into a Binding Vow, easily manipulating him into fighting him and instantly defeating him.
- Immense Knowledge of Sorcery: Having been around since the Golden Age of Jujutsu, Sukuna has fully grasped the nature of cursed techniques and cursed and reverse cursed energy as a whole. He has displayed a complete understanding of the tenets of jujutsu, knowing how important it is to be aware of one's own capabilities to not push beyond their limits, lest they be punished, and explaining to Yuji how binding vows work. He is able to quickly deduce the inner workings of cursed techniques after only seeing them once or twice and creating suitable foils for such techniques, and due to his experience, he can quickly identify most cursed techniques anyway. He effortlessly noticed that Megumi's shikigami abilities are entirely different from normal, knowing that other forms rely on using talismans, deduced it came from shadow and how much more practical it was, and swiftly identified Mahoraga's sword as the Blade of Extermination with its positive energy to kill cursed spirits before completely understanding its adaptive ability and was able to defeat the shikigami after gaining an understanding of its technique.
- Unique Body Structure: In his true form, Sukuna possesses four arms and two mouths. The extra arms allow him to perform hand signs while keeping two of his hands free, and the extra mouth can continuously chant empowered words without straining his heart or lungs. These additional body parts provide him with an immense advantage over other jujutsu sorcerers, and despite his abnormality, his bodily functions are not impeded.
- Immense Strength: Sukuna possesses extraordinary levels of superhuman strength. With 1 finger alone, he effortlessly defeated a huge cursed spirit with a swipe of his hands and punched the roof of the school so hard as to rapture and crack the building. With just 2 fingers, he effortlessly overpowered a Finger Bearer and Megumi Fushiguro with sheer strength. He effortlessly pinned the special grade curse down and stepped on him with enough force to collapse debris, even ripping apart his arm, and was able to effortlessly destroy Megumi's shikigami and launch Megumi through buildings with ease. With fifteen of his fingers, Sukuna punched Jogo through buildings and even destroyed the latter's jaw. His blows had a considerable effect on Mahoraga. On Megumi's body, he easily punched Yuji with enough force to send him through buildings.
- Immense Speed and Reflexes: Sukuna is able to move at incredible speeds and counter incomings with such massive speed as to completely overtake opponents. With just 2 fingers, he was able to effortlessly blitz a Finger Bearer, and with 3 fingers, he nonchalantly and utterly outmatched Megumi and his Shikigami in speed to easily toy with them, dodging and countering their attacks with absolute ease. He can move at such speeds that he seemed to be teleporting, as he easily covered the distance between him and Megumi to pummel him without him being able to recover. With 15 fingers, he even appeared in the middle of Panda and Atsuya in an instant without any of them being able to see his movements, and he was repeatedly able to catch Jogo off-guard with ease and dodge his attacks, even going as far as to casually avoid Jogo's Maximum Meteor and stand on top of it to avoid taking damage. He also kept up with and outpaced Mahoraga, consistently dodging and countering his attacks before proceeding to quickly put him down for good before he could regenerate. In Megumi's body, Sukuna proved fast enough to keep up with both Yuji and Maki simultaneously.
- Immortality/Nigh-Invulnerability: Sukuna's sense of self is so potent that his consciousness survives, albeit sealed, into his remains of 20 fingers, which are indestructible to anyone, even the strongest Jujutsu sorcerer, Satoru Gojo himself. While in Yuji's body, he displays massive levels of durability that seem to be attributed to the strength of his curse. Even with just a finger, he showed little pain and annoyance upon being hit by Satoru Gojo. With 2 fingers, he came out completely unscathed from Megumi's shikigami attacks, even laughing at the attack. With 15 fingers, he shrugged off attacks from Mahoraga with no damage, not even the Blade of Extermination capable of annihilating cursed spirits doing any harm to him, and Jogo's strongest technique, Maximum Meteor, while capable of harming him, would only inflict light damage at best, as both he and Jogo acknowledged. In Megumi's body, he was initially undamaged, only intrigued by Yuji's furious attacks, and even with Megumi weakening him, Sukuna still withstood several powerful attacks from a fully heavenly-restricted Maki without much trouble.
- Incarnation: Whenever a person consumed one of Sukuna's fingers, there was a chance (albeit infinitesimally small) that the King of Curses would incarnate and their body would be possessed by Sukuna's conscience. Sukuna gained access to all knowledge contained within his host's brain, meaning he could impersonate his host perfectly and had an intrinsic understanding of whatever era he incarnated in. Additionally, while incarnated in a human's body, Sukuna was able to make full use of the powers and skills he had prior to being sealed and could additionally make use of any powers his new host body already possessed. However, he could only access a percentage of his full power equivalent to how many of his fingers were contained within the body (e.g. if two of his twenty fingers were in the body, then he would have access to ten percent of his overall power). Interestingly, Yuji Itadori was able to exert control over when Sukuna could and couldn't possess his body. Later on, Sukuna rips off Yuji’s pinky finger and force-feeds it to Megumi, allowing him to transfer and take over Megumi’s body.
- Metamorphosis: Sukuna after possessing someone's body, can freely create new eyes and mouths on his host, allowing him to see and speak without controlling the body of the host. For example, he made a single eye and fanged mouth on Yuji's left cheek to belittle and taunt him.
Ten Shadow Technique[]
Sukuna gained the "Ten Shadows Technique," the innate cursed technique of Megumi Fushiguro, after transferring into his body from force-feeding him Yuji’s pinky finger. The Ten Shadows technique allowed the user to gain permanent control of specific shikigami by summoning them in an exorcism ritual and then subjugating them. With the Ten Shadows technique, users could summon their tamed shikigami by using shadows as an intermediary and forming the Shinigami's shape out of them. Any shikigami that gets destroyed or killed can’t be summoned again, but its energy is inherited or passed on to the other shikigami, making them stronger and faster. Though those on the verge of death could be unsummoned to keep them safe, the overall strength and amount of shikigami that could be summoned at once or in quick succession both depended on the user's cursed energy. Sukuna was able to safeguard his shikigami from being destroyed by not fully defining their shapes when manifesting them from the shadows. Doing so made them harder to significantly damage, as the constitution of their bodies was less tangible and more erratic. Normally, not fully forming the shikigami of Ten Shadows would make them offensively weaker; however, Sukuna was able to bypass such a problem by simply imbuing them with his immense cursed energy.
- Divine Dogs: The starter shikigami of the Ten Shadows is a pair of dogs. Divine Dogs are originally a set of two basic wolf-like beings—one wolf is black and the other is white—that were efficient at defeating weak curses and tracking targets down. The white dog was killed by a Finger Bearer, so the black dog inherited the power of its deceased white twin, which granted the black dog the ability to become a larger, stronger, bi-pedal, bi-colored werewolf that can harm even special grade cursed spirits.
- Nue: A large orange owl-like shikigami that can produce electric shocks from its wings upon contact with a target. Nue is highly versatile, as it boasts great speed and the ability to stun opponents with its electricity. It can also serve as a method of transportation as well as an effective tool for aerial scouting. Under Sukuna's control, Nue is gargantuan in size, being large enough to perch on top of a skyscraper. Its face is much larger and more humanoid in appearance. It also possesses a snake-like tail, bears the same symbol as the Great Serpent on its forehead, and can use its electricity as a projectile.
- Toad: A large green frog/toad shikigami that can help its master by ensnaring or slamming its opponents with its tongue. This shikigami can also be used to save allies that are in danger by carrying them in its mouth.
- Great Serpent: A giant snake shikigami that can act as both an attacker and a trapper by trapping opponents or immobilizing them. Sadly, this shikigami was destroyed by Sukuna in Chapter 9 while battling Megumi, and it is unknown which shikigami inherited its power.
- Max Elephant: A pink elephant shikigami that can summon large amounts of water from its trunk and can be used to crush the opponent. Under Sukuna's control, Max Elephant resembles a mammoth, possessing long, curved tusks and hollowed-out eye sockets.
- Rabbit Escape: A swarm of rabbit/bunny shikigami as a distraction for the opponent. It is primarily used as a way to escape the unfolded chaos; however, one rabbit/bunny always has a symbol on its belly, and if it's destroyed or killed, all of the rabbits and bunnies are destroyed/killed as well.
- Tranquil Deer: A massive deer shikigami that can output reverse cursed energy. Said energy is strong enough to neutralize any matter imbued with the cursed energy of an opponent.
- Piercing Ox: An Ox-like shikigami that can charge down the opponents. It can only move in a straight line, but the more it moves, the stronger the charge gets.
- Tiger Funeral: A shikigami whose appearance and unknown capabilities have not been shown yet.
- Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga: Mahoraga is the strongest shikigami available within Ten Shadows. None of the Ten Shadows users before Sukuna was able to tame it. It carries the Sword of Extermination, which it imbues with normal or reverse cursed energy, depending on the circumstances. Mahoraga also has the ability to adapt to any and all phenomena. Sukuna is able to make Mahoraga adapt before summoning it by partially summoning the adaptation ability beforehand and taking damage himself.
- Nue: Merged Beast Agito: A merged version of the Nue shikigami, along with the Great Serpent, Tiger Funeral, and Round Deer shikigamis' powers granted. During Sukuna's battle against Gojo in Megumi's body, the King of the Curses increased his chance of winning against Gojo by summoning Merged Beast Agito, as the sorcerer was already solely dealing with Sukuna and Mahoraga. The Nue hybrid shikigami still has access to its electricity powers, along with the use of reverse cursed technique to recover itself from damages.
Equipments[]
- Hiten[1]: A cursed tool was an item infused with cursed energy by a sorcerer. During the Heian Era, Ryomen Sukuna commonly made use of two cursed tools, one of which was a staff named "Hiten."
- Kamutoke[2]: The other of Sukuna's Heian Era cursed tools was "Supreme Martial Solution." Certain powerful cursed tools were imbued with the innate cursed technique of a sorcerer, allowing their user to make use of the cursed technique etched upon them. Supreme Martial Solution was imbued with a cursed technique that allowed Sukuna to project bolts of powerful electricity made out of cursed energy at a target. In the modern day, Sukuna received an identical replica of the Supreme Martial Solution constructed by Yorozu.

Trivia[]
- Sukuna is heavily inspired by the Japanese mythology figure of the same name, alternatively translated from Japanese as "double-sided accommodation." His mythology counterpart was a four-armed and double-faced demon who lived during the 4th century, according to the second-oldest classical Japanese literature book, Nihon Shoki, translated as The Chronicles of Japan, until he was killed by a man named Takeshikuma. Both Sukunas share many personality traits along with their physical features.
- A popular theory among fans was that since the original Sukuna had a twin brother, this version must have one as well, which is strongly theorized to be Yuji, after some information was leaked on Twitter. However, this is later explained to be a mistranslation by the leakers, and it is clarified that Sukuna does have a twin brother who is instead Jin Itadori, Yuji's father, making Sukuna Yuji's uncle and ancestor as well.
- Sukuna's kimono design is close to women's kimono, as having more space was more comfortable for him while having 4 arms in the past.
- When asked about Sukuna's past, Gege Akutami revealed that he was always extremely revered as the King of Curses even before he became a Cursed Spirit, but during the Golden Days of Jujutsu, sorcerers and cursed spirits were far more vicious and powerful, so while he is still very much feared, he wasn't feared as much as Gojo Satoru, the strongest sorcerer in the current days, is now. Akutami also revealed that Sukuna never had a family or a wife, only Uraume, which may explain why he seems to be close with Uraume. Akutami also confirmed that Sukuna, unlike any other Curse, fully remembers his past as a human, but he also stated that Sukuna wasn't so much of a human or even a cursed user back then, describing him as a natural calamity and stating Sukuna doesn't even consider himself human nor does his surroundings.
- The 2024 superbowl makes an advertisement by using the fight in the anime between Sukuna and Jogo, showing Sukuna's face edited as Patrick Mahomes and Jogo's as who appears to be someone from the team of the San Francisco 49ers, seemingly to predict and represent which team is going to win in the Superbowl.[3]
- It has been said that McDonald's will make a collab with Jujutsu Kaisen at the start of July 2024, having special features such as Sukuna's face tattoos appearing on McDonald's application. However it is exclusively available in America according to users. [4]
