Ryuji Hanada is one of the main antagonists in Crying Freeman (1995). He was portrayed by Masaya Kato, who also known for his roles in Fighter in the Wind (2006) and Shinjuku Incident (2009).

Biography[]
Ryuji Hanada was a right hand man of Shimazaki and a leader of Hanada Clan. Together with his wife, Kimie, they make their move of claiming the position of taking over Hakushin Society after Shimazaki was killed by Freeman. Then, they decided to hunt down Freeman and become the powerful leader in their organization. Ryuji also make an ally with Detective Netah, who he helped a long time ago by helping him in the right position in crime investigation department.
In attempting of killing Freeman[]
After breaking into Emu's house, Ryuji encounters Freeman after two of his men got killed by Freeman. As Ryuji tries to shoot him, Koh throws a knife on Ryuji from behind and throws a gun to Freeman. The two shooting at each other as Freeman take cover using the body of Ryuji's dead man while Ryuji with a submachine gun got shot multiple times and fall down to the floor. However, Emu got injured due to Ryuji's shooting. As Freeman carries Emu away, Ryuji who is injured, point his submachine gun to shoot Freeman from behind but missed his chance as Freeman walks out of the sight. Ryuji then got up to his feet and took off his vest as Kimie appears and kissing him while pulling out the knife from his back.
Wreck Havoc at a soya factoring in Shanghai[]
After his failure of killing Freeman, Ryuji and his gang attacked a soya factory which was under the protection of the Dragons. They slaughtered many workers and spare a few of them. Ryuji walks in and threat one the workers to send a message that declare a war with the Dragons before cut off the worker's ear with his sword and leaving the factory.
Taking over Hakushin Society[]
It is revealed by Kimie Hanada who told Netah that it was her plan to convince Ryuji on setting his boss up by letting him being assasinated by Freeman so the Hanadas can be in charge of Hakushin Society.
Fate[]
As Ryuji is celebrating his new leadership as a boss of Hakushin Society, he is unaware of Freeman and Koh who are disguised themselves as the allies of another clan, pretending to join his clan in order to execute Ryuji. In a conversation, Ryuji pulled a gun on Freeman while questioning about his kill on Mr.Mitsuru Sasakibara but still did not aware that he is Freeman in disguise and assuming he is fit to be in Hanada clan. After Freeman and Koh drinking sake, Koh make the move by spitting flames on Ryuji, alerting all the enemies. Freeman jumps on to stab Ryuji but Ryuji defend himself and aware that he is Freeman. Freeman then spitting his flames on Ryuji while Koh shooting on his men. Ryuji removed his burning shirt and tries to attack Freeman but got shoot by Ryuji. However, Ryuji still able to fight back, only to be pinned in his hand by Koh with a knife against the wall. Koh tells Freeman to take care the situation outside while he implanting an explosive magazine device on Ryuji and ask for Ryuji to send his regard to Satan. Koh catch up to Freeman who grabbing Kimie as hostage and about to execute Freeman, From the distance, Ryuji grabbed a gun and shoot Koh before he got killed by the explosive, sadden his wife for his death.
Personality[]
Ryuji is a tall, muscular well-looking man and covered with multiple tattoos as a yakuza. He is a ruthless and intimidated person who are wealth with money, clothes, properties and weapons in Hakushin Society. Alongside his wife, Kimie Hanada, they are the ones who planned for setting up Mr.Shimazaki to be killed by Freeman so they will be the new leaders and take control over Hakushin Society. Despite his intimidation and cruelty, he does not show much of intelligence as it was his wife's plan all along for putting them in charge for taking over the power in Hakishin Society. He also show how tough he is when trying to kill Freeman. He is able to fight back although taking few shots and a stab from Koh.
