Team, I have an issue that needs immediate clarification. I have the Ryugyong Hotel as the location of a mind-affecting stele from the Proto Afro-Asiatic Culture Group. As you can see, that's the same location as this brain-stealing flesh network. Are these two objects related at all? Is this hotel some kind of DPRK containment facility? If so, we should put that into the object's Special Containment Procedures File.

SCP-031, also known as "What is Love?", is an antagonist in the SCP Foundation series. It is a Euclid-class SCP, and is an enigmatic, amorphous blob-like creature that mentally manipulates its victims and consumes them. The creature resides in The Ryugyong Hotel in North Korea.
Due to the sheer size of the SCP, it is not contained at the SCP Foundation, but is still kept from spreading beyond the limits of the hotel it resides in. In the past, the SCP was much smaller, and easier to contain.
The first report of the SCP goes back to October 22, 1948. During this time, a riot in the city had broken out, where citizens were worshiping some sort of cult leader known as "The Beloved". This was simply the SCP's influence, although in the early stages.
The SCP was originally 75 kg, took a humanoid shape, and didn't have the ability to consume victims nor mentally manipulate them. The creature was a Safe-class SCP back then. On June 25, 1950, the Korean Conflict had caused destruction of Foundation property, causing all captured anomalies to escape. All escaped anomalies were recaptured, except for SCP-031. The Foundation assumed the SCP was lost in the wild.
In 1992, the Foundation was once again made aware of the creature's existence. This is when the SCP began consuming construction workers of The Ryugyong Hotel. The Foundation sent a Mobile Task Force to investigate, but they too were consumed by the SCP. Any work on the Hotel was halted for sixteen years.
In 2008, additional constructions were made on the hotel to visually hide it from others. Unfortunately, this resulted in the SCP consuming even more construction workers. To this day, the Foundation constantly tries to reclaim the hotel from the SCP.
Description[]
Much like in real life, North Korea's government has heavy control of media, limiting information to the rest of the world. This includes any information about SCP-031. The Foundation respects this, as long as it doesn't interfere with the Foundation's research.
Efforts are being made to reclaim the hotel, with the Foundation sending in people with hazmat suits and flamethrowers in an attempt to weaken the SCP.
The size of SCP-031 is remarkably large, with it taking over nearly all floors and ductwork of the hotel. The creature weights about 7,500 kg, and though the Foundation has destroyed much of the SCP's mass, many floors and rooms remain in the SCP's control.
Behavior[]
The creature appears to be not only completely sentient, but is able to read the mind of its victims. In the point of view of human victims, SCP-031 will take the form of a person in the victim's past that had an emotional attachment to them. Once this happens, the SCP will convince the victim to stay with it for an extended period of time.
After this, the SCP will engulf the victim's body, but also absorb their brain without damaging it. This means the victim may still be mentally conscious, or that the SCP is simply using the information from the brains for its own benefit. When engulfing a victim's body, the SCP replaces their blood vessels with its own tendrils. Victim's brains are incorporated into the SCP's mass.
The estimated amount of brains the SCP engulfed is known by the Foundation, but not released to the public. However, the original article implies that over 1,000 brains have been absorbed. This has been seen by the Foundation through video surveillance. Any victim that has survived an encounter with SCP-031, but still mentally manipulated, must be terminated, as not to possibly spread the SCP's influence.
