~ SCP-1316's final message, revealing the Chaos Insurgency abandoned her.
Lucy, otherwise known as SCP-1316 or the Feline Espionage Device is a minor antagonist of the SCP Foundation mythos. She is a kitten who seemed to never age, and was placed under the care of the titular foundation for research. However, after a particularly brutal containment breach, it was revealed that SCP-1316 was a double agent for the Chaos Insurgency, feeding them information that led to the rival team invading.
SCP-1316 is a small house cat that is permanently stuck at the physical age of three months old. The official photo for her has her as a brownish-gray tabby cat with green eyes.
Personality[]
Upon first discovery, Lucy acted as a normal cat. She was noted to be extremely friendly to strangers, but no signs of higher intelligence were observed throughout the early years of her stay. This passiveness made her easy to trust, allowing her to get access to the ins and outs of Site-112.
This is a lie. Not only is she intelligent, SCP-1316 is an agent of the Chaos Insurgency, using her appearance and friendliness to deceive the Foundation staff into giving her free reign of the site she was contained in. While she was aligned with the Chaos Insurgency, it is unknown if she harbors the same resentment towards the SCP Foundation that her former superiors have. That being said, SCP-1316 does not acknowledge the attack that she caused, seemingly not caring about the aftermath.
SCP-1316 appears to be dedicated to her cause, having spent four entire years posing as a friendly face just to fool the entire Foundation and allow the Chaos Insurgency to invade. When the Insurgency abandoned her after her duty was fulfilled, SCP-1316 seemed to quietly fall into despair, no longer making regular attempts at contacting her allies. However, the fact that she's still being recorded, and the fact that access to said recordings needs approval by higher personnel, seems to suggest that SCP-1316 is still sending messages once in a while, and that despite being abandoned for what could possibly be years, she still yearns for her rescue.
Biography[]
Allegedly, Lucy was first purchased by an unknown person in 1926 as a kitten. As time went on, and as her owner presumably aged with time, it became clear that Lucy herself was not. In 1948, Lucy was discovered and taken in by the Foundation's personnel and relocated to Site-112 as an anomalous object. Since Lucy did not seem to pose any threat to the Foundation, the staff would allow her free range of Site-112.
On the sixteenth of August, 1952, a massive breach was performed by the Chaos Insurgency, a rival group to the SCP Foundation who seek to obtain and exploit anomalies for their own gain. In this event, numerous SCPs were either lost, destroyed, or otherwise escaped, and various Foundation staff members lost their lives, either through the Insurgency or the loose SCPs.
Upon clearing out the area, it became clear that Lucy was the source of the information breach, using two electrical devices to communicate with the Insurgency. It was observed that every day, at exactly 09:20:37 GMT, Lucy would transmit a radio broadcast consisting of a voice reading out 80 numbers, seemingly in a cipher of some kind. Upon discovery of this, Lucy was designated as SCP-1316, had her movement restricted, and had her recordings monitored in order to decode them.
Deciphering the messages revealed that SCP-1316 was, in fact, responsible for the invasion, and was awaiting for either new orders or someone to extract her from the site. For a week straight, SCP-1316 tried contacting the Chaos Insurgency on her broadcasts, trying to remind them that they promised to rescue her after the invasion, but no one was on the other end. After realizing that the Chaos Insurgency abandoned her, SCP-1316 silently gave up, no longer trying to contact the Insurgency on the regular.
SCP-1316 is currently held at Bio Containment Site-39 as one of the only two SCPs located there (the other being SCP-6767). While cared for as with any other, only D-Class personnel are permitted to handle her to prevent another data breach. A radio receiver is used to record any transmissions that she may still occasionally send out.
Trivia[]
SCP-1316 was created by Gaffsey.
The image currently used for SCP-1316 was originally uploaded to Wikimedia Commons by Sasan Geranmehr.
According to a post by Gaffsey's now-deleted account, SCP-1316's article was written in under 24 hours for a challenge.
Also according to Gaffsey, originally, the SCP Foundation would take Lucy from her owner and claim that the cat was run over. It was cut for "being long and not adding too much to the article".
Once, SCP-1316 was cross-tested with SCP-978, a camera that shows a picture of what its subject would want to be doing. The finished photo showed SCP-1316 resting and being caressed by an unknown person in heavy military gear, likely a Chaos Insurgency member.
SCP-1316 is based on the Lincolnshire Poacher, a radio station that communicated via a string of numbers spoken by an artificial female voice, and was believed to have used the numbers to communicate in secret.
Before each broadcast, SCP-1316 would transmit the first three bars of "Tam Lin", a famous British folk ballad from an unknown source around the Scottish Borders. The idea of a song playing before the broadcast is another reference to the Lincolnshire Poacher, which did the exact same thing with the song of the same name. However, the reasoning for choosing that "Tam Lin" in particular, if at all, is unknown.
