You don't have a lot of time, you'll need to get away quickly. Go back to the lake, go into the water, look into their eyes. It's your friends, your classmates. You took the trip to the lake in the fall of '75, together, when you were young. Don't you remember? Look into their eyes. I know you can hear them talking to you, just like they talked to me. Don't let them tell you it's just a cognitohazard. This was their fault, they caused this. We were all innocent kids, don't you remember? And you just got away, you and I? The rest of them are at the bottom of that lake, waiting for us to go back to them and be whole together again. They want us to know. They want us to remember. Wake up, goddammit. Remember the fall of '75. The year we were supposed to graduate. Don't let them make you forget. They're calling to you, can't you hear them?
The SCP-2316 Entity is an enigmatic antagonist in the SCP Foundation series. It is a mysterious entity connected to SCP-2316, a lake which contains a group of floating bodies belonging to students of a school field trip in the Fall of 1975 possessing a cognitahazard that makes those who view them believe that they are their forgotten childhood friends and as a result would be compelled to join them and drown in the lake. It talks to the readers in the SCP Foundation's files, explaining to them the true nature of anomalies the files are describing and encouraging them to succumb to those anomalies. It holds a grudge against the Foundation for ruining the lives of the students of the Class of '76 and causing their misery, and it wishes to bring back the good times of the year 1976.
During the Fall of '75, the students of either Kirk Lonwood High School or Birchwood High School went on a field trip to a camp near the Lake Tolbesofkee. However, something horrible happened involving a ritual which caused the students to go drown in the lake. There their bodies would be preserved and be affected by a cognitohazard that made people looking at them believe they were their long lost childhood friends and force them to also drown in the lake which increased the number of bodies. It is unknown what exactly happened but what was known was that the SCP Foundation had indirectly caused this when maintaining its Veil protocol, sacrificing the students to hide the truth.
Despite the victims having drowned in the lake, they didn't perish but instead their consciousnesses merged into a hive-mind that existed as a voice. This entity sought to expand itself and get revenge on the Foundation personnel, and could achieve this by infiltrating the Foundation's database to talk to the personnel through SCP-2316's file to convince them to go and reunite with their friends in the lake.
July 5th, 1975[]
Sometime before the Fall of '75, SCP-3125 was mortally wounded by SCP-2747 and left for dead at the bottom of the lake. As it lay dying, 3125 cried for help which attracted the students nearby, leading to them drowning in the lake. As the students' bodies were affected by 3125's own body, they achieved the property of appearing like the lost friends to the people near the lake, manipulating their victims into joining them. From this, SCP-3125 would be reincarnated as the voice manipulating its victims into drowning in the lake to grow the number of bodies and empower itself.
Foundation Custody[]
While a young Calvin Lucien and his mother were walking across the fields and woods they accidentally came across SCP-2316. The lake called out to both mother and son, but Lucien managed to fight off the effects. Unfortunately, his mother succumbed to the call and attempted to bring Lucien with her, but seeing that he wouldn't budge, she went drown in the lake by herself. From this traumatic experience, Lucien would blame the Foundation for his mother's death which would lead him to join the Chaos Insurgency.
SCP-2316 was cross-tested with a boy named Evan Sanders who was completely immune to mind-affecting anomalies. 2316 completely failed to affect Evan as the latter had no compulsion to go into it. Furthermore, Evan was able to persuade other people to not recognize the bodies and drown in the lake.
Possible Endings[]
Project Isorropia[]
Following the success of the cross-testing of anomalies at Site-100, SCP-2316 was exposed to SCP-1500, a humanoid that causes people who see it to recognize it as someone important to them. The intersection of both anomalies' memory-altering abilities resulted in a feedback loop, causing 1500 to walk into the lake and disappear, while the voice within SCP-2316 embraced him as a true companion. Satisfied, both anomalies dissipated with no further activity.
In another entry, SCP-7676 was cross-tested with SCP-7076. The outcome of this is not described, but a note from Dr. Neil Leinnes suggests the version of SCP-2316's voice seen in 7676 was encouraged to finally let go of its grief together with the now-100-year-old remaining Class of '76 anomalies and move on.
SCP-7676[]
By July of 2022, almost all of the remaining members Syncope Symphony had perished, but their anomalies still persisted. One of these anomalies was SCP-7676, the North Hillcrest High School which caused those who interacted with to transform into a duplicate of the deceased students. As the Foundation personnel struggled to contain it due to succumbing to the anomaly, the voice began changing SCP-7676's file to talk to the reader who it believed to be Agent Julia Locke. In the file, the voice explained how it and Syncope Symphony after dying would be resurrected in the new world like Jesus Christ, and urged Julia to join them as her loved one Amalie was with them.
On May 21st of 2023, as enough people had been converted into the students they began playing the music score of "On Mount Golgotha", but in that moment the voice realized that it wasn't talking to Julia but to someone else who wished to see what would soon happen. The voice, although at unease due to being in the presence of a complete stranger, it still allowed them to watch alongside it time being undone and be recreated to Syncope's ideal world. Those who had been affected by SCP-7676 were transported to this new world, but were seemingly suffering in this reality.
SCP-7076[]
As the summer of the year 2076 approached, several anomalies related to the Class of '76 began to increase in power, SCP-2316 being one of them. At the very end of the article, 2316 flooded itself and sent the bodies into the surrounding area of Dearborn County, Georgia.
Despite this, the incident was successfully contained by the Foundation, and all increased anomalous activity seemingly dissipated after the graduation ceremony of 2076. The fate of the voice within SCP-2316 is not stated, though it can be assumed to have survived the article's events and returned to its original self.
Appearance[]
Because of its nature, the voice has no appearance, simply existing as a disembodied voice and words added to Foundation files.
Powers and Abilities[]
The voice was an incorporeal entity comprised of the minds of SCP-2316's victims that existed as a voice and could infiltrate the Foundation's SCiPNET and change the files about the anomalies relating to it, speaking directly to the reader, though its words could only be seen if the reader wished to listen to it. The voice could read their minds which it used to manipulate the reader, telling them that their long gone friends and loved ones were waiting for them and wished to be reunited. It wasn't restricted to SCP-2316's area as it was also found convincing people to go to SCP-7676. It said that once the world was reset to Syncope Symphony's world the voice would be reborn alongside the group, though it is unknown what exactly became of it once that happened.
Personality[]
The voice was shown to be a manipulative entity, directly speaking to the readers of the Foundation files and telling them that their dear old friends they had forgotten were still there for them and wanted to be reunited, leading to the individual it had manipulated to go kill themself which further fueled the anomalies that created it. As it was created due to the Foundation covering up the truth about the Syncope Symphony, the voice held a grudge against the organization for what it did and sought to help Syncope Symphony in taking it down, seeing a commonality in their origins as normal humans whose lives were taken by the Veil protocol and left forgotten (Syncope by the use of SCP-2000, and the voice by an unspecified incident.) Project Isorropía implies it may be doing this out of genuine grief and sorrow for the loss of the students' existences, but if so, it appeared to be compelled to use its own feelings as part of its manipulations, giving the impression of a facetious persona.
As the Syncope Symphony's subjects affected by SCP-7676 began playing SCP-012 to destroy and recreate reality to how they saw fit, the voice believed this to be a holy event, interpreting their music and the destruction caused by the anomaly as heavenly and angelic and their incoming resurrection in the new world as akin to Jesus Christ's own divine revival. Right before their objective reached its completion the voice sought to claim one more victim, that being Julia Locke, but instead was met with a complete stranger who only wished to see how things would unravel. Although taken aback by this, the voice allowed this individual to see the end and rebirth of the world alongside it.
In Other Media[]
SCP: 2316 Horror Short Film - YOU DO NOT RECOGNIZE THE BODIES IN THE WATER[]
On October 29 of 2021, Ryan Leshock's Elevated Media released a short movie about SCP-2316 which revolved around a young man Adam and his ex-girlfriend Grace encountering the lake. It took possession of Grace after she had drowned in it and dragged Adam shortly after.
It is speculated that SCP-2316 had a connection to SCP-5140 due to sharing some resemblance in the effects they have on people, but no concrete connection had been established.
The tale "There Are No Children In Alagadda" suggests that the voice was a Pattern Screamer that lamented over its existence having been taken away.
Another voice was present in SCP-5935, speaking to the reader in an audible whisper "Hello". This voice most likely belongs to the ghost of the cheerleader's deceased newborn baby haunting SCP-5935.
SCP-5365 was alternatively known as "You Do Not Recognize The Antibodies In D. Walter".
When the Foundation used SCP-978 to take a photo of SCP-2316, the picture showed the drowned students alive again and behaving like normal people around the empty lake.
A version of the voice appears in SPC-2316. This entity is a collective known as Ishmael comprised of the ghosts of the students from Carp Driftwood High School's Class of 1976 who were killed by the Shark Punching Center after they refused to punch sharks. As the SPC used their deaths to spread misinformation about the danger posed by sharks, Ishmael changed SPC-2316's file to reveal the truth to the reader.
In the universe of SCP-6001 where the Compendium, a benevolent amalgam organization of different GoIs, took over the world and declared worldwide peace with all anomalies, the spirits of SCP-2316 were freed from their state and could be finally seen by everyone as they flew through the sky.
SCP-2316 was inspired by djkaktus's experience during their youth when he and his family would go camping near the Patoka Lake. There his older cousins would try to scare him and their younger cousins by telling them that there were dead bodies in the lake.
