SCP-752-1 , also referred to as the Eudaimoniac, or by the scientific name Homo Eudaimonia are a hostile species in the SCP Foundation mythos and are the inhabitants of SCP-752 (also known as the Altruistic Utopia), a sub-subterranean city that is far more advanced than any other on Earth. They are a bio-engineered post-human race that were created to lack the competitive nature of normal human beings and to be instinctively more cooperative. In turn they lack a sense of individualism and are not bound by morality due to their utilitarian approach of life. The Foundation closely monitors SCP-752 to ensure that its “people” are kept unaware of the rest of the world due to how they could potentially out compete Homo sapiens and become the dominant life-form on Earth.
SCP-752-1 would be brought up in SCP-8008 as an example of the r/K selection theory being applied on humans.
SCP-752-1 specimens are stated to be quite physically identical to that of baseline humanity, besides this, nothing is actually specified about what the eudaimoniacs wear, or really anything on how they fashion themselves. But it can be presumed to be in a manner completely alien to that of regular human beings.
Personality[]
The most notable trait of SCP-752-1 is their behavior, which is completely different from that of Homo Sapiens in that they've developed a eusocial way of living stated to be most similar to that of various social insect species such as ants. Individual SCP-752-1 instances lack personality, emotions, and self interest, instead being driven by instinct to maintain in their words the "greater good" of their civilization. SCP-752-1 are quite intelligent and posses the capacity to create technology more advanced than any possessed by mankind themselves and can do so in a time frame quite rapid compared to the baseline human race. This allowed for their society to flourish in numbers of millions upon millions while being able to sustain the population.
History[]
At some point in the 19th century, an anonymous collective of scientist and philosophers known as Eudaimon began work on a project to create the perfect civilization. After several previous tests, a total of 100 test subjects with a ratio of 50 males and 50 females were taken beneath an undisclosed mountain range where the experiment would take place. The subjects where left with a man-made sun built by Eudaimon, and a temple that served as a library and or temple for them to gain knowledge and insight on how to build upon their society along with multiple plant and animal species for domestication purposes. Overtime the descendants of the original test subjects, here on named by Eudaimon as ''eudaimoniacs'' would enact behaviors deviant of normal human beings. Rather than a competitive nature the eudaimoniacs would cooperate with one another in every aspect to ensure their survival, they would also rapidly reproduce and just as quickly accelerate their technological knowledge with what they learned from the temple, eventually domesticating all of the animals and given to them, along with developing agriculture by irrigating nearby aquifers and soon creating the first ever buildings in their civilization, however the reason why the eudaimoniacs created these buildings was unknown.
Even though Eudaimonia seemed to be a stepping stone for a utopia, several atrocious, inhuman behaviors would soon arise. The eudaimoniacs would abandon their outlaw on cannibalism and started to feast on the remains of their dead. One of the teams managing the project designated Beta-1 called for this behavior to cease, however Alpha-1 stated that the repulsion of cannibalism is something that is wrong with human society and didn't want to interfere with their test subjects. Injured or disabled or overall feeble eudaimoniacs would start to die off either by committing suicide or by being murdered by their better adapted peers. The eudaimoniacs over time, evolved into meritocratic beings, with less intelligent but physically stronger individuals instinctively serving as construction labor, this mindset carried by the population made it to where working themselves to death became the norm. Ironically with previous experimentation concluding that a eudaimoniac was capable of living up to the age of approximately 150, the average lifespan for the Eudaimonian populace was around 45.
In Eudaimonia, a genuine culture never arose. With the closest result being the belief of a divine creator they referred to as the *Eudaimon*, this belief soon transformed into a strict moral system held near and dear by the eudaimoniacs, in the belief that one day their divine creator shall lead them forth to another, better world, which in reality was the end goal of the Eudaimon project.
As the eudaimoniacs continued to advance to a level on par with their creators, development teams Beta, Gamma, and Delta eventually lost insight on the project and felt it to have lost track of its goal. On the other hand Alpha had felt betrayed by the other teams and a few of Alpha’s members chose to pretend to side with members of the other teams so that they could eventually trick them into gaining their trust to pull off their plan to in turn poison the majority of Beta's members while Alpha kept lookout on the mysterious buildings of the eudaimoniacs. Gamma once tried to intervene with the activity of the eudaimoniacs which resulted in the underground people slaughtering their creators while many other members of Eudaimon where either captured or killed by any of the eudaimoniacs who came across them. The surviving members of Eudaimon who had yet to escape chose to permanently seal off and abandon the underground city in hopes that the eudaimoniacs would never learn of, or gain access to the rest of the world.
Trivia[]
The SCP-752 article states that "the social behaviour exhibited by SCP-752-1 in large groups bears no resemblance to that of humans or any other social mammal", however this is incorrect as naked mole-rats, and the distantly related damaraland mole-rat, are the only known species of mammals to inherit a eusocial lifestyle.
