~ Smith's ultimatum to the world.
SCP-7606 (real name David Michael Smith), is a minor antagonist in the SCP Foundation series. Prior to closer investigation, he was believed to be an eldritch being with power beyond any other anomalous entity known to the Foundation, and widely believed to be unkillable, unstoppable, and beyond any of the Foundation's known countermeasures.
However, following the first encounter with him in the field, closer examination revealed that he was merely a very clever but otherwise mortal thaumaturgist.
Prior to the events of his article, David Michael Smith was a 22-year-old thaumaturgist, and apparently a resident of Miami, Florida. Though a minor talent compared to more prominent thaumaturgists, Type Greens, or any of the other major threats in the setting, he somehow managed to learn and successfully perform a ritual that would induce a powerful memetic delusion on anyone viewing or mentioning him, encouraging them to perceive him as an unimaginably powerful godlike being of demonic origin.
With this power, he apparently set out to conquer the world, broadcasting a telepathic ultimatum to everyone within five kilometers of him, proclaiming himself to be an eldritch being named "Dav’vahid Maekalah Strygwyr". Claiming to have once been master of the entire world before descending into a millennia-long sleep, he regarded the humans infesting "his" territory as parasites, ordering them to lay down their arms and worship him. Since the mere act of talking about him was enough to spread the memetic effect further, the Foundation took the threat very seriously, producing an SCP profile in which he was credited with numerous anomalous abilities, regarded as unstoppable, and designated an Esoteric Class containment risk - with a secondary containment class of Apollyon.
The profile also warned that in the event that the newly-designated SCP-7606 ever breached the city limits of the city where he first appeared, the display of supernatural power would be so blatant that the Foundation would have no choice but to dissolve all Veil Protocols, with preparations for a HK-Class Deific Subjugation Scenario to be enacted immediately after - with the assumption that SCP-7606 would be ruling the world soon after. For good measure, the memetic effect of Smith's ritual ensured that nobody ever questioned if any of these anomalous effects were real.
One hour after the ultimatum was broadcast, SCP-7606 was detected making his way through downtown Miami. The Foundation immediately arrived in force alongside the local police and the US Army and attempt to prevent 7606 from leaving the city. However, none of the Foundation agents expected their efforts to do any good, and as soon as Smith began to approach their blockade, many agents began dropping their guns and hyperventilating.
At this moment, an elderly civilian exits a nearby apartment building. Identified as Gary Stevenson, he was dressed only in his underwear, heavily intoxicated, and screaming obscenities. Unknown to all, Smith's ritual had a greatly reduced effect on people who were under the influence of powerful hallucinogens, activating the flight-or-fight response instead of inducing religious terror. Consequently, upon seeing Smith, Stevenson immediately drew a handgun from his underwear and shot him three times, killing him instantly.
The effect of Smith's ritual wore off immediately afterwards, allowing the sheepish Foundation agents to realize that they'd been under memetic influence all along. In the light of SCP-7606's demise, efforts to reclassify him as "neutralize" are currently still pending.
Personality[]
The full scope of David Michael Smith's real personality is uncertain, given that he spent most of his time in the spotlight disguised by memetic illusions and is currently no longer in any condition to give interviews. However, it's clear that he was extremely narcissistic and ambitious, given his desire to be regarded as a god and the ultimatum he provided to the world.
Furthermore, he was also extremely cocky, given that he took no measures to defend his real body and wasn't even wearing a shirt at the time of his death, presumably believing that his memetic power would be enough to protect him. Furthermore, he clearly thought his memetic power was infallible, a fact that Gary Stevenson proved wrong.
Powers[]
While under the influence of Smith's memetic powers, the Foundation believed that SCP-7606 could not be killed, damaged, or impeded, possessed "extensive knowledge of thaumaturgic rituals beyond human limitations" and "unmatched physical combat prowess with knowledge of several ancient martial arts", the ability to "manifest any weapon of its choosing", and complete control over the concepts of fire, darkness, and death.
In reality, SCP-7606 was a relatively ordinary 22-year-old with no real powers beyond those his ritual had given him.
Trivia[]
SCP-7606 is clearly a parody of the most powerful entities in the SCP Foundation setting and of Lovecraftian deities in particular, especially given the exaggerated dread the Foundation exhibits when discussing him, despite having never seen him in action.
