The SRS is one of the many crime syndicates in Grand Theft Auto 2. It only appears in the residential district (which is also the second level) of the game.
Background[]
The SRS is an organization consisting of scientists and artificial clones. Dr. LaBrat is the leader and head scientist. Based on the public's image, the SRS is a pharmaceutical business. In reality, it is a crime syndicate that is devoted to conducting amoral experiments on human beings. The SRS is at war with the Rednecks, another local crime syndicate, due to their high intellect. The SRS is also at war with the Zaibatsu Corporation.
Ingame role[]
Dr. LaBrat hires the freelance criminal Claude Speed. He begins by instructing Claude to abduct several Zaibatsu operatives who possess sensitive information regarding the SRS. Claude uses a taxi to get the operatives. He recovers the stolen information before dropping the taxi and the operatives into the sea. Dr. LabRat is unaware that Claude is also working for the Rednecks and Zaibatsu Corporation. Billy Bob Bean, the leader of the Rednecks, employs Claude to start a gang war between the SRS and Zaibatsu Corporation. This is accomplished by Claude disguising himself as a Zaibatsu member and massacring several scientists from the SRS. Both gangs engage in a war.
Dr. LaBrat soon realizes that the Rednecks were indirectly responsible for causing the gang war. As retrobution, he sends Claude to sabotage a peace meeting between the Rednecks and Zaibatsu Corporation. Claude kidnaps a Redneck who is influential to the peace meeting. He brings the Redneck back to the SRS headquarters. As a result, the rest of the Rednecks are weakened. This leaves the SRS to target the Zaibatsu Corporation.
Eventually, all three of the gangs are weakened by Claude who was working for each of them. He is hunted and immediately found by each gang leader. Dr. Labrat is the first person to confront Claude. He attempts to use a machine gun but is easily killed along with the other gang leaders. Despite Dr. LabRat's death, the SRS manages to continue without him.
