Agent Sadie Deever is a minor character in the 2021 Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero film Spider-Man: No Way Home, the third installment in Jon Watts‘s Spider-Man film series, and one of the two main antagonists (alongside Najma) of the 2022 Disney+ miniseries Ms. Marvel.
She is a former agent of the United States Department of Damage Control, who was tasked to apprehend Ms. Marvel. But her way of handling Ms. Marvel has the agency's reputation in ruins after she disobeyed P. Cleary's orders and launched an attack on Ms. Marvel, Kamran and their friends that; caused collateral damage and public outrage; resulting in her termination from the agency.
She was portrayed by Alysia Reiner; who had also played Ms. Marmalady in Butterbean's Cafe and Natalie Figueroa in Orange is the New Black.
Biography[]
Investigating Spider-Man[]
Upon the Spider-Man/Mysterio controversy in 2024, Deever was briefly seen with a fellow Damage Control operator as she was spectating her superior Cleary interrogating Michelle Jones and Ned Leeds, who were allies with Peter at the time. Her memories of Peter Parker being Spider Man along with her superior and Peter's friends were later erased due to Doctor Strange casting a spell that made the entire world forget that Peter was the web-slinger.
Discovering and Searching for Kamala Khan[]
While working at the Damage Control Headquarters one year later, Deever came across Kamala Khan’s incident with Zoe Zimmer at AvengerCon through social media and showed her superior Cleary the video. After seeing the video, he tasked her to apprehend Khan. One day later, she and Cleary brought in Zoe for interrogation. Right as Cleary had used his interrogation techniques on Zoe by using her ego against her, Deever came into the interrogation room and resorted racial profiling on her savior. After they concluded that Zoe's savior was Middle Eastern, Cleary instructed Deever and her agents to do a sweep in the tri-state area, including the local mosques, with Cleary stating to Deever to just be respectful since he mentioned that the FBI has the mosques under surveillance. Right when Khan climbed down the alley and was chased by Damage Control's combat drones repurposed from Stark technology, Damage Control agents led by Deever ambushed Khan and attempt to capture her but failed as Kamran pulls up and drives the latter to safety.
The next day after the failed capture, Deever and her operatives barged into the Islamic Masjid of Jersey City and talked to the mosque's imam Sheikh Abdullah about Khan's activities but were interrupted by newly-elected board member Nakia Badahir, who informed her and her operatives that they have no official warrant for searching the mosque and had to get legal authority to continue the search. Before Deever and her operatives left the mosque empty-handed, Abdullah requested them to remove their shoes the next time they return. Several hours later, Deever responded to the conflict between Khan and the Clandestines which happened at Aamir's wedding and arrived with her operatives to arrest the Clandestines including Kamran while Khan and her best friend Bruno Carrelli to escaped without Deever or her operatives noticing.
After arresting the Clandestines and Kamran, Deever sent them to the Damage Control Supermax Prison. However, they along with Kamran managed to escape the prison and went separate ways, with Deever following Kamran right to Bruno's apartment by sending a DODC drone, which destroyed the latter's apartment while the two escaped the destruction of the building. After inspecting the apartment's destruction, Deever had lamented that it was caused by children having unnatural powers and then ordered several agents along with colleague Barrie to lock down Jersey City to search for the enhanced individuals.
Deever and her operatives returned to the Islamic Masjid of Jersey City and confronted Sheikh Abdullah and his fellow people, knowing that they might distract her and her men from finding Kamran. After ignoring the imam's protest, Deever finally ordered her operatives to do a search in the mosque and managed to find a door that had Nakia Badahir blocking it. After ordering Badahir to open the door she was blocking, she somehow found out that Badahir's new boyfriend Miguel was behind that door the whole time realizing that Kamran was nowhere to be seen in the mosque.
Not long after, Deever managed to track down Kamran along with Kamala Khan to the Coles Academics High School. After calling in a squad of Damage Control operatives, an uncomfortable Cleary ordered her to stand down concerned about the bad press that Damage Control would face if they publicly raided a school to attack teenagers. Deever pretended to follow his orders, but decided to proceed with the raid and decided to call in more units to make the capture. While waiting outside of the school for Kamran and Ms. Marvel, Deever ordered the assault to be initiated as DODC officers made their progress inside the building. Unbeknownst to her and her units, Zoe Zimmer called to a large crowd to gather around the school through social media, causing Deever to set up a close perimeter of the Damage Control agents.
Kamran barged out of the school, enraged at Damage Control. Deever ordered him to kneel down, but after he refused to cooperate, she ordered her operatives to open fire on him. However, Ms. Marvel appeared and protected Kamran using a hard light shield from one of her bangles. Upon witnessing Ms. Marvel protecting Kamran, Deever ordered her operatives to cease fire before unleashing a Stark Sound Cannon from one of the Damage Control trucks which destroyed the hard light shield protecting Ms. Marvel and Kamran. Just as Deever was about to order the sound cannon to be fired again, Ms. Marvel leaped at her and destroyed the weapon just as she fled from the individual. Soon after seeing Kamran brutally fight her operatives, Deever aimed her Glock-17 at Kamran. The latter responded by throwing a car at her which Deever managed to dodge. Regardless, Deever still picked up her pistol and threatened Kamran but he overwhelmed her by unleashing a energetic outburst.
After helplessly watching Ms. Marvel and Kamran being surrounded in a dome of light after the latter lost control of his powers and soon escaped with his constructs gone, Deever and her operatives made one last effort to apprehend Ms. Marvel, only to be shielded; by the crowd and the Jersey City Police Department. After witnessing Ms. Marvel evade her capture again, Deever got a call from Cleary; who was angry at her for disobeying his orders and attacked a bunch of kids using Damage Control's name. Because of this, he declared to Deever that; she was relieved from Damage Control duty and told her to evacuate as soon as possible; before a unit can come to fix her mess.
Personality[]
Deever is a cold person with little regard for other people. She has no respect for other people's thoughts and beliefs, wearing shoes in a mosque and disrespecting her coworker's orders, choosing to send troops after children. She takes her warnings lightly, as she was reminded to take off her shoes the next time she entered the mosque by Abdullah, though she wore hers anyways while looking for Kamran. She also had no regard for the orders P. Cleary gave her in regards to capturing Kamran and Kamala, choosing to do so anyways, which led to her losing her job.
Deever shows signs of being a xenophobe, as she was quick to rely on racial profiling during Zoe Zimmer's interrogation, and did not bother to respect any of the cultural traditions when raiding the Islamic Masjid of Jersey City. Similarly, she made disrespectful and threatening remarks whenever dealing with the people within the Mosque. She does not even respect religious ministers, being for her simple civilians, as is the case with Nakia Bahadir and Abdullah. Deever is also a hypocrite as she repeatedly blamed much of the destruction and chaos on New Jersey on teenagers having access to superpowers without any regulation, when it was Deever's own abuse of authority and disregard for the laws or her superiors that caused said destruction in the first place by sending armed drones against minors and later raiding an entire school in pursuit of the Clandestine hybrids.
