Eheh some call me "fighter". But you see I'm really more of a performer. And when I fight you become part of the show!
~ Sado introducing herself.

Sado is the secondary antagonist of Daniel Mullins Games' connected universe, being the secondary antagonist and final boss of The Hex as well as being highly speculated as the overarching antagonist in Inscryption.

She is an enigmatic game character who Carla Dosa created, believing that Lionel Snill was not adding enough female characters to his games. She appears in many games throughout The Hex, and has since been a recurring character in most of Daniel Mullins's Games since her debut.

Personality[]

Sado is described as a being who gleefully creates chaos for no reason. She consistently messes with other characters throughout the game, playing tricks on characters like Bryce throughout their confrontations, and Lazarus whom she tricks into believing she'll give him the Artifact with ease before subjecting him to the game's final boss. She is also shown to be sadistic like her namesake, torturing Rust after the deletion of his son and rubbing it in his face by dealing the finishing blow to Rocky before doing so. Her goal is never clear throughout the game until she ultimately ends up escaping the game world as result of the player's actions.

Sado tends to also talk a lot, being cut off by Bryce because of how much she talks herself up. Sado also seems to have a duck motif, much like her creator Carla Dosa as a reference to a software engineering method that involves explaining a game's code to a rubber duck. Sado also seems to have an eyeball and spider motif. She wears an eyeball as a belt buckle, and later in the game transforms into an arachnid-like hybrid of herself. Though she is bombastic in personality, she can also be manipulative and cunning. Despite appearing to be defeated by Lazarus once he attains the Artifact, she still uses the Six Pint Inn's plan to her advantage by making it to the real world as what appears to be a plain spider, but is later revealed to be Sado. Sado also often makes jokes and puns at the expense of the player characters, as she does during her fights with Lazarus and Bryce. Other times, she can just be plain cruel like when she deceives Rust by taking on the identity of his son and calling him brain-dead for not seeing through this.

Biography[]

Backstory[]

Sado was created by Carla Dosa by "pushing Gameworks to its limits." There's not much known of how she was made, yet certain parts of the game may imply she could be the result of a deal with the Devil. Sado was made during the development of Combat Arena X, which led to a dispute about Lionel not adding enough female characters to his game. In response to Sado being added, he made Chandrelle.

Combat Arena X[]

Sado's first official appearance is as the top fighter of Combat Arena X, however if the player enters the infamous Konami Code (Up, up, down down, left, right, left, right.) She appears in a screen that crashes the game. She is the final challenge of the game before Bryce is removed as a result of being too OP. She is fought in a three-part battle, initially being knocked out instantly. She then grows to a massive size, using the game's training dummy as an opponent as she utilizes Bryce's health bar to attack him as well. Once the dummy is defeated, it's revealed that all the damage it took transferred to the game's first fighter, Bhakto, possibly killing him. She then uses her hat(s) to attack, proposing Bryce with a game of "guess which one" before finally moving onto the last portion of the battle and attacking with her two hands. Once she's defeated, Bryce can knock her out and finish the battle. As Bryce is being transported out, she opens her eyes to look at the player.

Waste World[]

SadoGlitch

The state of ''Waste World'' after "Killing" Sado.

Sado appears in Waste World's boss rush mod, she is described as "an enigmatic figure" in the enemy description, and cannot be killed as she teleports each time the player attacks. The only way to "kill" her is by using the Shift+C+K hack, which causes the game to glitch out and crash. This however unlocks an achievement. She exclusively aims for Rust's son, Rocky. Shooting him until he is finally deleted from the game. This sends Rust into a panic, as Sado then subjects him to "hardcore mode", removing all mods the player is using to exploit the game, and forcing Rust to fight through the game's unmodded segments on his own. Sado continuously puts Rust through more and more abuse until she fakes him out, impersonating Rocky before taunting him one more time and allowing him to pull the trigger to end the hardcore mode.

Vicious Galaxy[]

Sado is found at the end of the Gameworks, where Jeremiah tells Lazarus that she must be freed in order to obtain the Artifact. Once she is freed, she kills off all the NPCs in the detention center she's being held in, and transports Lazarus to the storage room the Artifact is being held. She takes on a new arachnid-like form and subjects him to the game's final boss with three phases, a Pokémon phase, a PubG phase, and finally one where she consumes a mushroom from Super Mario Bros. and fights Lazarus directly, albeit enlarged. Once she is defeated, Lazarus obtains the Artifact and leaves. Sado follows him, taking the form of a much smaller spider.

Walk[]

Carla desk

The desk where Carla Dosa made Sado.

Sado is mentioned several times in Walk where her background is explained. Throughout the coding segments of the game, her virus appears to infect the code and the player must find ways to work around this. Whether or not this was added by Lionel to make the player deal with what he had to deal with, or Sado actually infected the game is unknown.

Six Pint Inn[]

Sado can sometimes be seen in the title screen where a silhouette in the windows flashes sometimes. In the game's ending can be seen hanging down from the ceiling in her spider form as The Hex is opened and Reginald escapes to the real world to kill Lionel. She presumably escapes along with the rest of the cast as well.

Real Life and Inscryption[]

Sado death

Sado in The Hex's post credits scene.

Sado can be seen rising from behind Lionel's corpse in the post-credit scene, implying that she has escaped to the real world. Sado also appears in Inscryption, where in the game's last CamWerks cutscene, she appears over Amanda's face for a single frame after she shoots Luke Carder dead. Because of this, a lot of fans speculate that she stole, possessed, or forged Amanda's identity in order to steal the OLD_DATA for unclear reasons. It's unknown where Sado is now, or what she has been up to but it is known that she is still roaming free in the real world and will likely return in later installments of Daniel Mullins's Games.

Beneath The Surface[]

During Carla Dosa's development of Beneath The Surface, Lionel confronted her asking that she adds a file to her game and Carla apprehensively accepts. The player can access this by downloading the game for free on Steam, and typing "Lionel.exe". This triggers a short free roam segment similar to the walk where Lionel apologizes for his mistreatment of his characters, revealing he never intended to disregard Reginald, and was always fond of him. Once the apology ends, the game closes as a file is "downloaded" to the player's computer. Once it's downloaded, the message "Sado.exe installed" pops up on the player's computer as it is littered with Sado's face and the program is closed, implying she breached the file and infected your hard drive.

Solipsis[]

Sado appears in one of the games from Dread X Collection 2 on steam if the game is booted when the moon is completely dark. By typing "Lionel.exe" on the title screen, you can also see her much like Beneath The Surface.

Powers and Abilities[]

Sado's abilities are not all entirely clear, and it's possible that she has much more potential than what has been shown of her so far. However, from what has been seen she still has a varying set of powers.

  • Nigh-omnipotence: Sado's powers have no clear limit, and it's shown that throughout each of her battles aside from the one with Rust, she is majorly holding back on each player character, and can alter each game she's in through almost unrealistic means. She also often surprises the player by getting into games she shouldn't be in to begin with.
  • Nigh-immortality: As said, it is unclear the extent of Sado's immortality but from what has been seen she can in almost no way be killed. This is shown most primarily in Waste World, where she constantly evades the player's attacks no matter what cheats they use, aside from the instant-kill cheat which simply causes her to crash the game herself.
  • Fighting Skills: Being a fighter in Combat Arena X, and one of the top-ranked fighters no less, it's clear she has some form of fighting expertise.
  • Finger Guns: Sado can shoot people with her own two fingers, and it's by these means she kills (or at least finishes off) Rocky.
  • Shapeshifting: Sado has morphed her form on various occasions. Namely during her fight with Bryce where she drastically increases in size, and her battle with Lazarus where she morphs into a spider-like form, as well as turning into a spider fully to spy on the Inn. She also turns into Rocky to taunt Rust.
  • Illusions: Sado has made people hallucinate before, most specifically when she causes Bryce to beat Bahkto possibly to death by disguising him as a training dummy.
  • Fatal Touch: In her battle with Lazarus, she can kill him just by touching him. She also freezes him in place as to ensure he doesn't evade, forcing him to shoot her hands away.
  • Arachnid Manipulation: She can vomit spiders, as well as become one.
  • 4th Wall Awareness: She is generally aware of her status as a game character, and looks the player in the eye frequently.
  • Telekinesis: She is capable of enough as to be able to manipulate her hats during her battle with Bryce, and allow them to float as well as projectile at Bryce.
  • Teleportation: She constantly teleports during her battle with Rust, and uses this to avoid taking any damage from him or Rocky no matter what cheats they use.
  • Power-Up Manipulation: During her battle with Lazarus, she takes various power-ups from various different games and uses them against him.
  • Voice Mimicry: Sado uses voice samples from many of the game's different characters when she speaks, and never sticks to one throughout her sentences.

Theories[]

It's a common theory among fans that Sado is Amanda, one of the overarching antagonists of Daniel Mullin's recent game Inscryption. People speculate that Sado possessed Amanda, or that Amanda never existed to begin with and was just a form Sado took to manipulate Luke. Evidence to back this up could be the fact that Sado escapes to the real world by the end of The Hex, and is shown to be capable of shapeshifting herself. In the last scene with Luke Carder, Amanda shoots him in the face and in that very same frame Sado's face appears for a split second over Amanda's. Sado is shown to have made people go insane in The Hex as well, possibly relating to how Luke goes insane over the course of Inscryption. If this theory is true, then it means Sado is the one in possession of the OLD_DATA.

Trivia[]

  • By cloning either Rust or Rocky in Sado's encounter in Waste World until each battle tile is filled and hitting Sado, the game will crash as she's supposed to teleport to another tile when hit yet all tiles will be full. This is likely a bug however, and therefore there is no achievement for doing this.
  • She likes chocolate.
