Sahaquiel is the main antagonist of Episode 12 "The Value of Miracles" in Neon Genesis Evangelion and a major antagonist of the film Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance. It is designated as the Tenth Angel in both the original TV series and the manga, while the rebuild film series designated it as the Eighth Angel.
Biography[]
Sahaquiel was first spotted in the atmosphere where it dropped pieces of itself onto Earth, similar to that of bombs. This odd Angel also noticeably has a powerful A.T. Field, protecting it from enemy fire easily including several N² bombs. After finally locating its position above the Geofront, it slowly began to hurdle itself towards the Earth to destroy the base and fuse with Lilith, which would then initiate the Third Impact. To prevent this, the three Eva pilots rushed on ahead (while breaking the sound barrier) to reach its direct location. As Unit 01 stood directly in the center, Shinji activates the A.T. Field to slow down the impending collision. After piercing its colossal eye with the help of Rei and Asuka, the Angel was no more.
Appearance[]
Sahaquiel is an overall massive entity. In the original series, it contained three green eye-like markings with one gigantic eye located at its center and the other two near the ends of its orange body, along with hand-like stems located at its corners.
In the rebuild films, it gained a noticeable redesign. Now known simply as the "Eighth Angel," it debuts with a large rainbow-like eye with a shimmering pattern stretching throughout the rest of its body. It also possesses a strange humanoid that appears within the center of its eye when endangered. The black strands upon its ends (which resemble large eyelashes) eventually activate and wave within a unified pattern. Unlike the original series, once this entity was pierced in the eye, a large amount of red liquid (presumably blood) emerges and washes over the city, nearly drowning it in the process.
