Sal DeMarco is the main antagonist of the 2008 comedic pet film, Beethoven's Big Break, the sixth installment of the Beethoven the Dog franchise.

He was portrayed by Stephen Tobolowsky, who also portrayed Happy Chapman in Garfield: The Movie.

Biography[]

Sal was a dog handler and untalented animal host for the Hollywood Big Wigs studio. He becomes envious toward Eddie Thorton (played by Jonathan Silverman). They've been hired to train animals for a film that centers around Frizzy. Sal gives Eddie a responsibility of training a lizard, whom Eddie names Pete. After Frizzy is presumably kidnapped, Sal frames Eddie, resulting him to be falsely fired.

In a stage lair, Sal is revealed to have had Frizzy, who is accompanied by Sal's clumsy henchmen, Tick and Bones.

After Eddie and his son Billy (played by Moises Arias) find Beethoven, who chases Pete around the building, the director Stanley (played by Eddie Griffin) loves Beethoven's performance and hires him, replacing Frizzy. Sal tries to lie about the problem, but Stanley doesn't buy and soon fires him.

Sal then plans his revenge by having his cronies dognap Beethoven for a million-dollar ransom. While Billy is flirting with his crush Katie (played by Stephanie Scott), Tick and Bones capture Beethoven by feeding him alcohol-soaked pizza. Sal decides that even if the ransom is paid, he would still kill him with a sedate chemical needle.

Sal attempts to kill Beethoven, but then Eddie pushes a giant sign onto Bones and Tick. Sal foolishly refuses to accept defeat and tries to escape. However, Frizzy (who decided to start a friendship with Beethoven) intervenes and bites Sal as a distraction so Beethoven can tie Sal's legs with a leash and drag him out of the stage room lair.

Sal is then arrested alongside his henchmen while swearing revenge but fails miserably.
