Saleer is a supporting antagonist in the Netflix animated fantasy series The Dragon Prince.

He was member of High Council of Katolis, who joined Lord Viren and helped him in his goals and eventually is a reason why Viren briefly became the King of Katolis.

He is voiced by Jonathan Holmes.

Biography

Not much is known about Saleer's backstory, only that he, at one point, became a member of Katolis' High Council. Saleer is first seen in the series during a meeting between Viren and the High Council, where Viren would talk about the Sun Fire Elves at the border of the Human Kingdoms and the dragons that were spotted recently after Saleer said that they would likely leave Katolis alone after killing Harrow.

Viren then asks for a reunion with the other leaders of the Human Kingdoms, but Opeli tells that he can't, so he threatened to kill the Crow Master and forced to write a latter to all the leaders of the Human Kingdoms with Harrow's insignia. After the reunion was made, he was arrested by Opeli, and Saleer started conspiring with him.

He is seen again when Ezran becomes the king of Katolis, with him disliking his ideas of peace between elves, humans, and dragons, and talked to Prince Kasef and convinced to help him with his plan. He is later seen bribing the guards of Viren's and allowing to let him and Kasef talk to Viren.

After Ezran was forced to abdicate his role as king to protect Katolis since Kasef threatened to go to destroy it if he didn't wage war on Xadia and Viren became king, Saleer convinced the people of Katolis onto his side and hail Viren. Saleer would later be the one to organize the troops for Viren's army. He was also the only person outside of Claudia on Viren's army to not be turned into a magma monster.

During the battle of the Storm Spire, Saleer assisted and was saved by Claudia after she created a spell to protect him and Viren from a group of dragons Ezran brought to help in stopping Viren's army. Saleer is later seen getting arrested by Aanya's troups after the battle was over alongside other magma soldiers of Viren's army.

Personality

Saleer seemed to be a kind person who cared for Katolis and humanity, as he wanted to wait and see if the elves would attack the Human Kingdoms or just decide to not do it if they believed they already got their revenge after Harrow's death, but it's later revealed that he is willing to help Viren in his goals of war. Saleer also disliked Ezran's ideas of peace.

He is also shown to not be above doing crimes to achieve his goals, as he commited high treason and bribed the guards guarding Viren so he could talk to him. Saleer is also loyal to Viren and acts in a polite manner towards nearly everyone, unlike Kasef, who acts hostile towards people nearly all the time, and hides his thoughts and is not open about them like Kasef is.

Trivia

• Saleer's name is similar to the Arabic word Saleem, which means good friend or companion. This is ironic, as despite being loyal to Viren, he betrays Ezran and has him arrested because he was against the idea of wagging war on Xadia.
