Sam (real name unknown) is a supporting antagonist of the Criminal Minds episode Mayhem. Sam is a bomber involved in a New York Terrorist Cell and the murderer of SSA Kate Joyner in the previous episode "Lo-Fi".

He's portrayed by Michael Stager.

Biography[]

Sam was one of the major agents of a cell planning a political assassination in a New York hospital. To create distractions, the terrorists were originally shooting people in the streets to create the illusion of a serial killer and misdirect the law and justice system's resources. When one of the terrorists was shot after he committed an attack, the group escalated by sending Sam to kill the FBI agents on the case. He rigged the squad van of Joyner and SSA Aaron Hotchner to explode, which severely wounded Joyner, and she later died from her wounds. Hotch narrowly survived, albeit suffered damage to his inner ear that would persist for months after the case ended. Sam appeared as a concerned bystander and sat with the two agents, before discreetly leaving. Agent Penelope Garcia saw through surveillance he was the bomber, so Agent Derek Morgan chased him into a subway tunnel. Sam threatened the police would lose because they weren't as driven as the terrorists, and Sam electrocuted himself with the operating train tracks and died.
