You gotta understand, my crew, they been pulling on their pootsos for weeks. These girls, they looked pretty good. The men had cash to spend. I saw chance for business, but that was all.
~ Choksey explaining why he pimped out the women in the crate.

Sam "Sailor Sam" Choksey is a minor antagonist in HBO's The Wire, appearing in the episode "Collateral Damage." He is a crewman on the Atlantic Light in the employ of the The Greek, overseeing the transport of trafficked women.

He is portrayed by Gerard Ender.

Personality[]

Sam Choksey only cares about himself and making money. His greed leads him to commit acts that are both despicable and stupid - something that gets him killed. He is also extremely cowardly, and will disregard the well-being and lives of others in order to save his own hide, even if this gets him in even greater trouble. Once The Greeks capture him, he can’t come up with a plausible lie to save his life.

Biography[]

While transporting a crate of fourteen trafficked women across the ocean for The Greek's prostitution ring, Sam Choksey gets an idea to make some extra money by pimping out the women to his crewmates. When one of the women resists, he beats her to death and dumps her body into the ocean. In a panic at being implicated in her death, he hammers the air pipe in the crate shut and leaves the rest to suffocate.

When The Greek discovers that Sam is behind the deaths, he tries to flee the ship in Philadelphia but is caught by Sergei Malatov and Spiros Vondas, who torture him for information before Vondas kills him. They dispose of his body by decapitating it, cutting off the hands, and dumping it into the ocean.
