Sam Fitzgibbon is a minor antagonist of Season 1 of the 2024 adult animated series Creature Commandos, the first instalment of the DC Universe.
He was a member of Hub City National Socialists Club, and neo-nazi who collected World War II nazi memorabilia, who befriended G.I. Robot, but was killed by him after G.I. found out Sam is a neo-nazi.
He was voiced by Michael Rooker, who also portrayed Dark Winged Vesper in Super Capers, Henry in Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, The Bone Collector in the film of the same name, Grant Grant in Slither, Jamie Yost in Law & Order, Terry Cruger in Sea of Love, Calvin Stark in Meteor Merle Dixon in The Walking Dead, Bud Melks in The Belko Expirament, Ray Clement in Cell 213, Yondu Udonta in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, Savant in The Suicide Squad and Red St. Wild in Peacemaker, and also voiced Vikke in Lollipop Chainsaw, Lutador in Vivo and Touchdown in Crime Boss: Rockay City.
Biography[]
At one point in his life, Sam Fitzgibbon wanted to join the military, but a leg injury prevented him from doing so. Due to his neo-Nazi beliefs, he eventually joined the National Socialists Club in Hub City. Sam also has a hobby of collecting World War II memorabilia.
Around year 2005, Sam visited a war memorabilia shop and noticed a deactivated G.I. Robot, an android that served Easy Company during World War II, and became intrigued with the android. The shop owner explained to him that after the war, the robot had been moved to a laboratory, and from the laboratory, eventually found his way into the hands of collectors before ending up in his shop. Fascinated, Sam decided to purchase G.I. Robot and take him home.
Sam refueled G.I. Robot with diesel oil to reactivate him and quickly bonded with him, showing him his war collection and introducing him to his cats, eventually settling down to watch television together. During that time, Sam remarked that it's nice to "have a family", suggesting a sense of affection towards G.I. Robot. Some time later, Sam dressed G.I. Robot up and took him out, explaining on the way in his car that they were going to meet his friends who have a goal of creating a "better country".
Upon arriving at the National Socialist Club meeting, Sam introduced G.I. Robot to Billy, the club leader, explaining that the robot could be of great help to their cause, which Billy gladly approved. However, after the meeting began, G.I. Robot noticed a large swastika behind Billy and he realized everyone in the room is a Nazi, triggering his wartime programming. G.I. Robot stood up and aimed his built-in machine gun at Sam, but before Sam could even react, G.I. shot him in the head, and the entire meeting devolved into a bloodbath as G.I. killed more Neo-Nazis.
The murder of Sam Fitzgibbon and the rest of the Hub City National Socialists Club led to G.I. Robot's arrest and imprisonment in Belle Reve, and several years later, his recruitment into the Creature Commandos.
Personality[]
Sam Fitzgibbon, like the rest of the Hub City National Socialists Club members, held Nazi beliefs, believing they would make for a better country. However, despite being a neo-Nazi, seemed to genuinely care for his cats and quickly grew fond of G.I. Robot, whom he quickly befriended, likely only because he believed G.I. would help club’s agenda. Ultimately, despite this small positive trait, he remains ignorant because he delusionally and opportunistically thought G.I. Robot would be a use for the neo-Nazi club, despite the android's origins as a Nazi killer during World War II, which ultimately backfired when G.I. Robot turned on him and killed him.
