Samael is a major supporting character of the french comic book Les Legendaires/The Legendaries of its spin-off series Origins Volume 3: Gryfenfer. He is a child that suffered from a malediction, a Rokai. Because of his anormal appearance his mother sold him to a man, Menthos and became his greatest monslave. He also became a great friend of Gryfenfer as a young child, before joining the Night Hunters. He makes his next appearance in the World Without timeline later on reunited with Gryfenfer, his childhood friend in the World Without Timeline.
Appearance[]
Samael is a boy snow white colored skin with stones that are sticked on his body and has sharper ears than regular human as he is a human that is part of the Rokai species. He has sky blue hair, golden yellowish glowing eyes. During his time as a monslave, he was shirtless and wore white pant and brown boots. Sometimes he wore a vest that is used during combat.
Upon becoming a night hunter, he wore the group's standard uniform being a dark outfit with a yellow and bird-shaped hood covering his head.
Personality[]
Samael was a rather kind, intelligent and sympathic boy that only show these traits to those that he trusted such as Gryfenfer. His great loyalty shows when he would even sacrifice himself in order to save Gryfenfer when he was about to be thrown inside the hole. After his defeat against Dasyatis, the poison that the monster had injected him into his body had made him crazy upon surviving the deadly injury.
During his fight against Gryfenfer as adults, he has a higher fighting spirits and wishes to defeat Gryfenfer seeing how strong he has grown. Upon being overpowered by his old friend, he forgives him as he states that he was proud to be defeated by someone as strong as him inside the jaguarian ruins. Before meeting Gryfenfer, the only person who was closed to him was Menthos his mentor who was the only person he viewed as a family, even after having received many deadly trainings from him. He even had deep admiration to another monslave, under the name of Raptor, The Green Shadow, who was the only monslave to ever gain freedom.
Biography[]
Origins Volume 3: Gryfenfer[]
Due to his anormal appeanrance caused by a strange malediction, he was sold and unwanted by his mother who sold him to a man that trains monsters that are used to fight in arena to make money, known as monslaves. Despite all the trainings that he had received from the cruel man, he still viewed him as his only family.
At the age of 16, he becomes very well known among the arena and even within the city of Eisleymos as a very powerful monslave. Having trained very hard and defeated numerous other opponents in battles. Menthos was very proud of him and even received the notable title of the “Indomptable Samael”.
One day his master comes back with another monslave that he plans on training to. It was a Jaguarian of around the age of 10. Upon meeting him, he learns that his camrade is only a coward. The next morning his first training immediately started. He is cruely hitted numerous time by Menthos who lost patience due to the absences of his will to fight. Samael then stops then man and suggests him to let him take charge on training him. During their interaction they also decides to name him “Gryfenfer” because of the marks that he could make on rocks with his claws.
While trainings Gryfenfer, Samael gives him explaination of the system of the monslaves, the arena Eisleymos and the hole, a well that acts as a where Menthos puts unwanted monslaves as trash inside it with at the bottom hundreds of throwned and corpse of previous monslaves were thrown there in the past. And him about the dangerous, Night Hunters, warriors that hunts and tracks down monslaves that have escaped from their master.
On day Gryfenfer watches his first battle of Samael against another monslave known as Galab’ru. Although Samael struggled in the fight agaist the gigantic demon-like monster who had great advantage over his great size, Samael comes out as the victory. Over the days Samael who keep training the Jaguarian, where a deep bond of friendship would form. When the day of Gryfenfer finally came, he is fighting against a crab-like monster Caroya. The battle however comes out as a disaster as the young boy is easily overpowered by the gigantic sized monster. Samael stops the fight to prevent Gryfenfer from getting killed. He is then treated by doctors. Furious and humiliated, Menthos tries to throw Gryfenfer inside the hole. However Samael tries to stop him. To prevent his action, he declares to fight the strongest monslave of the entire history of the arena, Dasyatis who has never lost a single fight against anyone in the arena. When the fight was scheduled, Gryfenfer hears Samael’s paintful scream. When he came, to his terror Samael is stabbed in the stomach and is pierced by Dasyatis’ poison tentacles. An enraged Gryfenfer then rushes and manages to land a blow on the monster’s face, before Menthos’ interrupt to prevent that him from also getting killed.
After the fight, Samael is throwned into the hole. Gryfenfer, thinking that he is now longer in this world, asks Menthos to train harder than he ever did in order to avenge his friend by killig Dasyatis. In reality Samael was actually still alive, laying on top of other monster’s corpses. He was found by the Night Hunters who took him with them to be trained by them over the years, making him a lot more powerful than he was before, by developping new techniques and fighting styles. The poison that was injected into his body by Dasyatis however made him crazy, as he was feeled with hatred. Hatred that was however not destinated to Menthos, but to Gryfenfer whom he though was betrayed by him and because of him he was thrown into the well.
One day as Gryfenfer was freed by a mysterious woman and escaped upon learning that Dasyatis has been killed by Darkhell. Two years trying to track down the Jaguarian who was found on the mountain of Lovinah where Jaguarian’s civilization was near. Having the desire to kill his “brother” alone he murders his nighter raiders ally. Filled with hatred he then charges toward Gryfenfer after the Jaguarian saved a woman and reveals himself by taking of his uniform. To his suprise Samael was still alive after all these years. During the fight Gryfenfer who receives several injuries, being easily overpowered by Samael. Later on as he was about finishes off his old friend, the floor collapse dropping them both inside the jaguarian ruins.
The location caused Gryfenfer to awaken out of rage, having his eyes filled with rage and his strength greatly increased. He was in a state that is known as Chakouina a case where Jaguarian becomes crazy and uncontrollable. Samael is immediately overpowered by his opponent, to which he tries to defend himself by creating a long rock pillar with his ability, only for Gryfenfer to break it and used it back on Samael, piercing his body. Samael realizes that Gryfenfer is the strongest opponent he ever fought, forgives him and states that he is proud to die by his hand.
A month later, his master Menthos was found assassinated. His body was nailed on the wall with rock spikes across his body. Before dying, the men tried to write letters “Sa”. Outside we see a mysterious figure with glowing golden eyes, revealing to be Samael who was still alive, now knowing that Menthos was trying to write the name “Samael”. He finally gave revenge to the men who had made him suffered both him and Gryfenfer.
