Samantha is the main antagonist of the 2017 point and click horror game CAYNE. They are a human that was experimented on by Cayne Corporation, specifically by John Kearn, in hopes of creating a vessel worthy of carrying Hendry Cayne's spirit. The experiments led to them becoming a horrifying monster that can no longer remember its past life.
Biography[]
Like many of the victims of Cayne Corporation, Samantha was taken against their will by Cayne, and was experimented on for months, possibly years. As Cayne grew older, he wanted to make sure there was a way he could come back even after death. Having experimented on pregnant women in the past, Cayne's theory was that he could transfer a clone of his subconscious into the baby of a worthy women's womb, and then grant his clone the genetics from both parents, then transfer his true conscious over to it. Samantha was one of these potential candidates.
John Kearn, a loyal follower of Cayne, sought to give Samantha a healing factor that could be passed down onto Cayne, one that would make him relatively immortal. However, Kearn failed. The healing factor, while it indeed could regrow tissue and cells, could not retain any information of its former damaged self. Therefore, Samantha slowly lost knowledge of who she was over time, and adapted the mindset of a rampant beast instead. As Cayne needed his memories to be transferred along with his genetics, he determined that Samantha was a failure. Cayne ordered Kearn to keep Samantha alive, so that he could continue to study her healing factor even if she herself wasn't perfect. Kearn agreed to do so.
Cayne died over the next few months, but the strands of his consciousness were not fully lost thanks to a cryo-machine. Kearn now dedicated himself entirely to his work, neglecting his new egotistical wife (after his previous one passed) and bratty daughter.
While Kearn continued to work, his wife, Sharon, and his daughter, Julia, bickered. They both equally hated each other. Over the months, Julia created a plan to kill Sharon, as she led to the girl to Samantha's cage, hoping the monster would eat her. However, Samantha was a bit stronger than the dimwitted Julia was expecting, and so while Sharon did indeed get kill, Julia was also eaten by Samantha as well. Kearn took
Meanwhile, Cayne's back-up plan in case Kearn couldn't succeed, two men named Dr. Simon Adams and Hank, began working on finding just transferring Cayne's consciousness to a new host, even if that host didn't have the healing factor he wanted. To Cayne, he would always have more time to gain his immortality later, but he needed to be alive in order to do so.
Years later, as Cayne's plan finally worked, his consciousness transferred into the baby inside of a woman named Hadley's pregnant womb. Cayne was fully sentient inside Hadley, and, while pretending to be the voice of a prisoner from another cell, helped direct Hadley to an exit of the facility. As they neared the exit, Samantha blocked their path. Cayne was shocked to hear Samantha was still alive, and urged Hadley to kill it. After much planning, Hadley was able to lure Samantha out at the end of the game to a force field barrier. She activated it just as Samantha was passing over, slicing Samantha fully in two. As the brain was now fully separated, permanently dead, combined with a soothing gas that could negate some of Samantha's powers, Samantha was finally dead.
