Samantha Drake was a student at Central Kansas A&M and president of the Students for Lex Luthor group at CKU in the WB TV series Smallville. She served as the main antagonist in the Season Five episode "Fanatic".
She was portrayed by Annie Burgstede.
Biography[]
Samantha Drake was completely devoted/obsessed with Lex Luthor, having extensive knowledge about his life to the point of obsession. During Lex's campaign for state senate, the group interviewed him at his mansion. Samantha requested to have a picture with him and told him she was his biggest fan. She spoke about how much she knew about Lex and even wore a "Lex" charm around her neck. Lex was unnerved by Samantha's devotion.
Samantha had her friends harassed Lex's campaign rival Jonathan Kent with threatening phone calls but he wouldn't drop out of the race. Samantha then saw Lois Lane hanging election posters for Jonathan and quickly tore them down claiming they were too large and against regulation. Lois argued with Samantha and like Jonathan, Lois would not back down. Samantha gave in and left telling James and Doug they needed to send a more direct message.
Samantha and the group later ambushed Jonathan Kent while he was working in his barn. Doug and James attacked him with baseball bats while Samantha stood in the shadows of the stairs smiling deviously. They stung him up and left another warning message. However, the attack actually raised Jonathan's poll numbers, so Samantha decided to kill him instead.
The other two members objected and wanted to turn themselves in. But Samantha shot and killed James and Doug then shaved her head bald, in homage to Lex. She then went to the Luthor Mansion and waited for Lex to come home. Samantha removed her top and wanted him while revealing what she had done for him, expecting praise for the assault on Jonathan.
Lex was appalled by her actions and decided to turn her over to the police, but Samantha knocked him out in a rage and prepared to kill Jonathan at his next campaign rally. Backstage at the rally, while Jonathan prepared to give his speech, Lois ran into Samantha, who knocked Lois out cold. She held Lois hostage and when she woke up, Samantha tried to force her to shoot a sniper rifle at Jonathan during his speech - intending to subsequently claim that Lois and Jonathan had been having an affair which Jonathan had ended, driving Lois to kill him and then herself.
When Jonathan began his speech Samantha set Lois and the gun up. At the last second, Lois attacked Samantha but was knocked aside. Samantha grabbed the rifle and fired a shot off herself before Lois grabbed her. Just as Samantha shoots, Clark Kent entered the rally, hearing the bullet, and uses his super speed to step in front of Jonathan to catch it without anyone noticing he was there. Lois got the upper hand and restrained Samantha. She was caught, arrested and placed in jail.
