Samuel, also known as just Sam, is the main antagonist of famous musician Tyler, The Creator's third studio album, WOLF.
He is an insecure adolescent who goes to Camp Flog Gnaw, is the leader of his gang, The Dead Sams, and the boyfriend of a girl named Salem. After a life of rejection, abuse and bullying, Sam is extremely insecure and possessive of Salem, which causes him to spur into a murderous rage after he finds out she's seeing the camp's newest camper, Wolf Haley, behind his back.
He was played by Tyler Okonma, better known as Tyler, The Creator, who also played Wolf in the same album, himself, Ace, The Creator and Tron Cat in BASTARD & GOBLIN, the titular character in IGOR, St. Chroma in Call Me If You Get Lost & Chromokopia and Blitz Comet in Regular Show.
Appearance[]
Sam is a slim African-American man with a white shirt reading "GOLF", black pants and shoes, and a green beanie with the Camp Flog Gnaw logo on it.
Biography[]
Sam was regularly bullied during his high school years, being rejected from all the friend groups and called names. As revealed in “Pig’s” The constant abuse and isolation eventually drove Sam to shoot up his school, killing all his bullies. This ended with Sam being sent to Camp Flog Gnaw, where he met Salem, and the two eventually started dating, with Sam becoming insanely jealous and possessive of Salem due to her being the only girlfriend he ever had. Later on, the camp councillor Dr. TC introduces to Flog Gnaw's new camper, Wolf, and tells them to get along. When TC leaves, however, Sam immediately threatens Wolf and tells him to stay away from him, which he ignores when Sam leaves the camp for a to make a drug run as Wolf and Salem start hanging out with each other. Sam doesn't come back to the camp until "PartyIsntOver / Campfire / Bimmer" as he finds out from L-Boy that Salem has been cheating on him while he's been gone to drop off a package (drug deal). In "Rusty", Sam goes on the hunt for Wolf as he ends up shooting Earl Sweatshirt, which was a way of sending him a message (hence why Earl is not featured on Goblin). Then on track "Trashwang," Sam starts the war at Camp Flog Gnaw, his team vs. Wolf's team, who wins is unknown. Afterwards on "Treehome95", Wolf and Salem end up getting back together. Sam is later revealed to be another one of Tyler's alter-egos and is killed by Tyler in "Sam (Is Dead)". Later, at the end of "Lone," Dr. T.C. brings up Samuel. Dr. T.C. asks Wolf if he has seen Samuel, in which Wolf threatens to kill Samuel the next time he sees him. However, because they have not seen him, he has already died.
Trivia[]
- Sam (alongside Tyler himself from BASTARD & GOBLIN) was the only alter ego of Tyler, The Creator to physically appear in music videos, yet not appear in the music video for SORRY, NOT SORRY.
- This could change, however, if Tyler were to release another album with a new alter ego, although as of writing this is not likely to happen anytime soon.
- The Camp Flog Gnaw logo on Sam's beanie is a reference to Tron Cat.
- Sam shares a few similarities to another Tyler character, Ace, The Creator, being a violent, murderous psychopath who has had a sour experience with his high school love interests that resulted in him killing them.
- However, Sam is much more sympathetic, being a victim of constant bullying and neglect, whereas Ace is a stalking cannibalistic necrophiliac.
- Sam's background of being a school shooter is based on the Columbine school shootings from 1999.
- Sam is the only alter ego of Tyler's to smoke, which is ironic considering that Sam also has asthma.
