Samuel Mackey is one of several incarnations of Satan who appeared in The X-Files. He acts as the uknown and later-revealed primary antagonist of the episode "Signs and Wonders".
Like most depictions of Satan on the show, he is a powerful demon who disguises himself as a human in order to corrupt the world; this particular guise was based on the Serpent aspect of Satan.
He was portrayed by Randy Oglesby.
History[]
Samuel Mackey was a mild-mannered reverend of a community church in Blessing, Tennessee who has decided to corrupt the Pentecostal Fundamentalist Church known as the Church of God with Signs & Wonders, known for its snake-handling practices during services. He seduced one of its members, Gracie O'Connor, who is also the daughter of the sect's leader Reverend Enoch O'Connor, and impregnated her with live snakes. The act has resulted in the expulsion of Gracie from both the church and her family home and would soon escalate into a massacre as Mackey began to hunt down and murder anyone within or out the Church that grew too close to discovering his true nature and purpose.
Enoch O'Connor finally confronted Samuel personally and planned on killing the evil reverend in vengeance for the others in his Church but was shot by Mulder, who mistakenly believed Enoch to be the dangerous one - however Mackey revealed his true nature and attacked Mulder with a snake before escaping, Scully managed to save Mulder from the snake before it could kill him but Mackey had vanished.
Unfortunately Mackey would reappear in a new church in Connecticut and sits in his office, where he reveals his demonic nature by having a snake come out of his mouth as he feeds on a mouse - no further mention of Mackey has been made since but given his nature he likely continued his sinister plans and due to his Satanic power and nature is unlikely to be caught or punished for his crimes.
Powers and Abilities[]
Samuel Mackey is an incarnation of Satan and is thus an immortal entity with great demonic power, his particular realm of influence seemed to dominate over snakes and reptilian phenomena - he showed such malignant power as impregnating women with live snakes, summoning poisonous snakes to kill anyone he pleased and in the very end he even manifests his demonic form briefly by revealing a large snake living inside himself (though it is very possible this was demonic magic, since Satan is a spiritual being rather than physical in nature).
