San Monique are the main antagonists of the James Bond movie Live and Let Die. It is an island nation in the Caribbean which is ruled over by the dictator and drug lord Dr. Kananga.
History[]
As the head of state of San Monique, Dr. Kananga used his country's resources to aid in his scheme to gain a monopoly on heroin trade in the west. Setting up a dual identity for himself in America as Harlem gangster "Mr. Big", Kananga smuggled in the heroin grown in his country's poppy fields and sold it through the gang his alter ego ran. Through the addictions his drugs created, Kananga was able to rake in loads of profit. Kananga was aided in his plans by the psychic medium Solitaire, who used her voodoo powers to see into the future.
The drug smuggling operation out of San Monique eventually attracted the interest of both the CIA and MI6, leading them to send agents to investigate. After Kananga had three British agents who were spying on his operation assassinated, James Bond was sent to New York to investigate the death of the first agent, Dawes. James Bond was eventually captured by Kananga's henchmen and taken to a crocodile farm to be executed, but managed to escape.
After Kananga was killed by James Bond, it can be presumed his dictatorial regime came to an end and his smuggling operation was put to a halt.
