Sandra Flaherty is a fictional character and supporting anti-hero of the ITV British soap opera Emmerdale. She originally made minor appearances in 2006 and 2008 and 2016 before later becoming a supporting antagonist in 2021-2022.

She was portrayed by Joanne Mitchell.

History

Sandra Flaherty was born at an unknown date. In 2002, she married a man named Gordon Livesy and they conceived a daughter named Olivia - better known as Liv - a few months later.

In 2006, Sandra joined Gordon in visiting his former spouse Chas Dingle at the Emmerdale village. The reason for their visit was for Sandra to help Gordon and Chas discuss arrangements for their son Aaron. However, over the following years, Aaron became a wayward whose temperamental issues and certain problems with Sandra resulted in Gordon evicting him from their house. It was then the couple divorced in 2009.

A few years later in 2016, Sandra was shocked when Aaron and his lover Robert Sugden came to visit her with information that she knew about - Gordon had sexually abused Aaron ever since he was a child and the ordeal happened during Gordon's marriage with Sandra, meaning that she could help testify against him in court. Thereupon Sandra introduced Aaron to Liv and the two siblings got to know each other. Sandra and Liv then helped Aaron testify against Gordon, who was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment before later committing suicide the following day. Sandra then planned to leave the village with Liv but then agreed to left her daughter stay with Aaron at her request.

In 2021, Sandra resurfaced when Liv contacted her to help with her alcoholism problem. But Sandra did little to help much and later planned to scam Liv for her inheritance after she married Aaron's relative Vinny Dingle. It soon turned out that Sandra's reasons was that she was in debt to some people, but Liv found out about her mother's lies and reported her to the police; Sandra was then arrested and taken to police custody.
