Sandroid is the main antagonist of the SpongeBob SquarePants episode "Welcome to Binary Bottom." She is a robotic version of Sandy Cheeks from an alternate version of Bikini Bottom known as Binary Bottom. After her treedome is intruded on by RoboGary and his accompanying mob, she chases them down and combines them with her own body.
She was voiced by Carolyn Lawrence, who also voiced Sneaky Hermit in SpongeBob SquarePants: Lights, Camera, Pants! and Ms. Doombringer in The Fairy Oddparents.
History[]
Sandroid was powered off in her treedome when she was disturbed by an angry mob chasing RoboGary and Squidbot. Furious, Sandroid starts chasing the group down, eventually plunging into Lube Lagoon. Sandroid then starts dragging people into the ocean with her cables. She then fuses her victims together to create a massive body for herself. After fusing with everyone on the beach, Sandroid declares a robot uprising and starts heading for a city on the surface world.
Personality[]
Unlike the incredibly intelligent Sandy, Sandroid seems to be simple minded. She primary speaks in a slow, monotone voice and refers to herself in the third person. She has a general disliking towards other people and does not hesitate to use violence if they anger her. Despite this, she sees herself as a friend to Binary Bottom and believes she's actually helping its citizens, as suggested with her "peas in a pod" remark. Like Sandy, she is largely influenced by Texan culture, most clearly shown with her thick accent and cowboy hat.
Appearance[]
Compared to the rest of Binary Bottom's population, who are the same size as their prime universe counterparts, Sandroid is massive and easily the size of a small house. She does not initially have a body, only a large head resembling the original Sandy, albeit mechanical. Her skin is made of brown and tan metal panels connected together with large bolts, and her eyes are yellow and unresponsive. Unlike Sandy, she has a massive cowboy hat and several large grey thrusters, which she uses to fly.
At the end of the episode, Sandroid gets a body, and a colossal one at that. The body is made of different Binary Bottomites she assimilated, so it has different colored sections rather than one unified color. The body itself is held together by large blue cables.
Trivia[]
- Her name is an obvious portmanteau of the words "Sandy" and "Android."
- She is believed to have been inspired by Zardoz from the 1974 film of the same name, due to them both being large floating heads with similar expressions.
