Sanford Harris is a major antagonist in Fringe, being one of the secondary antagonists of the first season. At first, he appeared to be a standalone villain, but he was actually working for David Robert Jones.
Harris was portrayed by Michael Gaston.
Biography[]
In the past, Sanford Harris sexually assaulted three female Marine privates one evening after getting drunk. Olivia Dunham exposed and prosecuted him, resulting in several years of imprisonment. The conviction was later overturned, but Harris' career was ruined. Harris then joined the Department of Homeland Security, rising in rank to become a high-level consultant for the Pentagon.
Sanford Harris first appeared on the phone in “Bound”, where he called his old friend, Philip Broyles, telling him that he was going to conduct a formal review of the Fringe Division, which Broyles was the head of in the FBI. He then visited Olivia Dunham as she recovered in the hospital after escaping her kidnappers. She remembered his prosecuting, but Harris explained his current goals. He chided her for being acquainted with questionable men and forbade her from investigating her abduction.
Broyles had defended Olivia saying that her skills were an asset, but Harris said that the Pentagon wanted him to now investigate. He tried to prevent Olivia from placing Dr. Russell Simon in protective custody, he was watching her every move. Soon after that, Harris kept interfering with the case of Brian Dempsey and his virus. Broyles told him to back off. Then, when a man was killed after his orifices sealed up, Harris refused to let Olivia interrogate Jones and helped him build a device to mess with the surveillance.
Harris is eventually exposed as a ZFT operative during an investigation of two pyrokinetic women. He had collaborated with Isaac Winters experiment on a drug known as Cortexiphan. Anyway, Olivia tracked Harris during his abduction of the second woman, Nancy Lewis, and is locked in a room with her. With her out-of-control powers, it was expected that Olivia would be vaporized when Lewis exploded; Olivia instead helped her focus her powers on Harris, who was quickly incinerated.
