Sara Tidwell was a black blues singer, a member of the Red Tops, a traveling band in the United States. While performing in the TR-90, she was brutally gang-raped and murdered by the lake by Jared Devore and his henchmen. Her son, Kito was drowned when he spotted her assault. Jared was the grandfather to Max Devore and the great-great-grandfather to Kyra Devore.
Her vengeful ghost serves as one of the two main antagonists (alongside Maxwell ‘Max’ Devore) in King’s 40th novel ‘Bag of Bones.’ In the novel, she haunts Mike Noonan’s holiday home Sara Laughs and cursed the town so that she possesses the descendants of her murderers and they will kill one of their own offspring whose name starts with K. Jo Noonan learnt this curse and tried to stop it but died beforehand. Mike learnt of the curse and found out that Kyra Devore is the last one to be killed. She is opposed by the Noonan’s as Jo Noonan also haunts Sara Laughs. She possesses him to try and kill Kyra.
Towards the end, Mike arrives at where Sara was killed and starts digging up her remains. Furious, she possesses a tree to stop him but Jo’s ghost fights her. Mike learns that Sara, through her rage, has let in another creature, an outsider who is using her as a conduit. Mike destroys her remains which expelled her from the living world, defeating her, putting her to rest permanently and ending her century long curse.
