Satan is the main antagonist of the 2017/2018 songs Satan's Upheaval and The River of Pain by the horrorcore metal band, A Night in Texas. He is based upon Satan from Christianity but has a role of a dark cosmic entity whose powers eventually overthrew the archangels of the Heaven and defeated Jesus Chris, enslaving humanity, on the biblical Judgement Day.
Biography[]
Satan makes his first appearance in the video Satan's Upheaval. Little is known of Satan's background, but just like in religious doctrines, he seemed to be the ultimate enemy of the biblical God and his son, Jesus Christ. On the Judgement Day, fireballs come crashing down onto the Earth (specifically New York City), scourging and burning everything in vicinity. Humans who survived the fireballs, were chained up in a "human wall" in the most unnatural and uncomfortable way possible as their bones were infused with other humans, where they were only able to cry and moan and move their arms. Eventually, the humans weep for so long that a giant river was forming from their tears. Satan's voice is then heard on Earth, letting everyone know that God doesn't in fact exist, only he does and that humanity made a mistake worshipping God over him. The song lets people know that they will be enslaved forever and once they die they will rot in Hell forever.
Satan then makes an appearance, rising up from the ground, declaring that he will feed upon "the children of Christ", before opening his mouth and spawning forth giant locusts. As the video focuses on a nearby graveyard, the Rotten King (another known character of ANIT) rises out from his coffin, enjoying the chaos, while fireballs keep flying out from the sky onto the earth. Satan taunts humanity as he burns churches, asking them about Christ: "Where is he now? Where the fuck is he now?!" He then cuts open his own wrists to drown humans in his own blood. Satan then opens his mouth wide to eat a couple of humans as they cry out to the sky and try to escape from his mouth.
After the second chorus, Satan once again opens his mouth to bring out another army of flying locust and bugs, invading the Earth. Satan then makes himself even bigger and approaches another graveyard, where a person on a cross, revealed to be Jesus Christ, can be seen moving and resisting. Satan takes the cross, with Jesus on it and proclaims that his soul will be his, before eating and munching Jesus alive, with the entire cross. He then proclaims that his soul will burn forever and that everything that dies will eventually be his. The video ends with the entire Earth being covered in crimson red color.
In the second video, River of Pain, which came out a year later, the story continues right from the previous one, with Satan drinking what is left of Jesus' blood from his corpse and the rock where his cross stood upon, announcing victory and invincibility since he now had "the blood of Christ" in him. Satan then shows us a river or lake of lava where people are burning in, while others can be seen hanging upside down from chains. The Devil then summons literal Hell on Earth, as a giant lake of fire can be seen submerging humans and burning them alive, not being able to die, while Satan taunts them, asking "how does the seventh circle of Hell taste?" More hanging bodies can then be seen and another human wall, filling up, with humans being fused into it, moaning and crying, while the background shows that Satan is no longer in New York, but rather somewhere in Eastern Europe (based upon the Orthodox-styled church). Satan then explains that the mortals are being punished for lying about his divinity. The video cuts to row upon row of human heads being impaled on downside swords, on their handles. The Rotten King can then once again be seen, sitting on a throne made of broken human bodies and bones. As Satan proclaims he stands above all creation, people tied to stakes can be seen on a hill, trying to resist, but in vain.
The video then shows humans being forced to drag wagons behind them with dead bodies loaded on them, with Satan singing that he will wash in their blood and drench it all out to power himself further. He then says that he will make all of the "usurpers and traitors" immortal, so they will be forced to suffer forever and ever and will beg for death. The Rotten King can be seen on his throne, approving of this.
The scene then turns to the graveyard where Jesus' cross stood and a giant light can be seen piercing from the darkened sky. Satan stares at the sky and his eyes start to glow even redder as two archangels, with swords and shields, can be seen approaching out of the sky. The two angels charge at the Devil and one manages to cut and stab him, wounding him, and Satan opens his mouth to summon out fireballs or flaming rocks, but the two angels manage to avoid them. They continue to fly over him, cutting and wounding him. Satan then opens his mouth again to summon the locusts, who relentlessly attack the archangels, even managing to kill one as he is thrown into the ground and eaten alive. The other archangel, although weakened, manages to stab Satan again. As he tries to stab him once again, Satan manages to grab him and squeeze his head off, killing him. He then squeezes him once again to make his body explode, before drinking all of his blood as the video fades out, showing the leftovers of the corpse of the previous angel that was devoured by locusts.
Trivia[]
- This version of Satan, along with Satan (Kisterverse), is one of the rare versions of the Devil that successfully managed to gain control over mankind and defeat god.
- Interestingly, A Night in Texas music videos garnered no controversy whatsoever as the band is not even that known.
- The biblical God appears to not exist in this universe and is made up, but Jesus Christ and the Archangels do. Because of this, Satan's vengeance towards humanity is not as much about opposing god or taking vengeance against the Heaven, but more about taking revenge upon mankind's ignorance for believing in his (god's) existence, while thinking that Satan is unworthy to be considered a deity or a God.
- Satan's ability to spew out locusts and bugs to attack people is a reference to both, Beelzebub and Abaddon.
