So party people, what's the verdict? Are we gonna take this upstairs, or what?
~ Satan

Satan is a biblical deity and one of the main antagonists in the Cyanide and Happiness series. He is a laid-back ruler of the underworld that is bent on torturing as many souls as he can, whether they reside on Earth or in his realm.

He is voiced by Joel Watson and Rob DenBleyker.

Biography[]

Comic Appearances[]

Satan makes his first comic appearance greeting a man whom had just arrived in the underworld. He told him that he was there for forty seven accounts of murder fourteen counts of rape, and the list went on. He asked him what his punishment would be, but Satan said there would be none, as he was Satan and he loved evil. Satan then called over his clown friend and told him that this was the guy he was talking about.

He next appears being asked by a man what his day was like. He told him that he had an interview, that interview being for a guidance counselor to help guide the youth in a more positive direction. When the man asked him if he had got it, Satan replied "no" and lit him on fire.

Satan next appears with another man asking him if he could have another chance at keeping his soul. Satan agreed, and told them him it would be determined by flipping a coin. He flipped it, and the man lit on fire. After being lit on fire, the man asked if he lost.

He greeted a man telling him that he was going to be sent to the first layer, the only sin he ever committed having been cheated on a test. The man thought this was ok, but Satan reminded him of the circumstances of the first layer, telling him that if he'd had studied he would have known that.

He next appears with someone shouting (or singing) that "Bleezebud" had put a devil inside of him. Suddenly; the devil appeared, and raped him.

He next appears with a character calling the front seat because he was the oldest. Satan appeared and said "but I'm Satan", and the man lit on fire.

He last appears waking up in bed with God, after waking up he pours alcohol onto the earth.

Dead[]

Satan first appears in the Cyanide and Happiness skit: "Dead". In the skit, a man enters a store and everywhere he looks makes him feel as though he were dead. For example, he believed that because the automatic door did not recognize him, he was a ghost wondering the mortal world. After he would panic, he would realize that he is not in fact dead and there was a reasonable explanation for why the scenario played out like it did. At the end of the skit, it was revealed that he was in fact dead, and Satan was looming over the store. He said that this would be the man's punishment for all eternity.

Dinner with the Folks[]

Satan next appears in the skit: "Dinner with the Folks". At the beginning, the female date warned her male date that her parents were very religious. At first he is fine with this, assuming they are are just really religious like she said. But when it comes time to prey they suddenly reveal to be Satanists, the male is clearly horrified, espically when they ask him to sacrifice a baby lamb to Satan, which he relunately does, not wanting to upset them. They used it's blood to draw satanic symbols and chant in a satanic manner. After their ritual, the home turned red and shook. Satan then appeared and talked to them like an old friend, complimenting the meal they they had laid before them. He specifically thanked the mother, Debrah, and told her that she was a wiz in the kitchen, which she cheerfully thanked him,. An after credits scene showed him standing by the stairs. He asked them if they were going to take things upstairs, so the father grabbed the knife and the mother hopped onto the wooden wheel and rolled herself upstairs, shortly being followed by Satan. What happened next is unknown.

Burning Bush[]

Satan makes his third appearance in the skit: "Burning Bush". It begins with Moses walking by an opening, when suddenly he is beckoned by a booming voice, assambly God's. His attention is drawn towards a bush that was lit on fire. What is assumed to be God tells him to walk towards him, but egan giving him like to slowly strip. It's suddenly revealed that Satan and one of his demon subjects were the one's behind the voice, pretending to be God, simply for Satan's own amusement.

The Classic Comic[]

His fourth appearance was an animation of his comic where he talked to the man who cheated on one of his tests.

God's Song[]

Satan's longest appearance was in the skit: "God's Song". The skit begins with Jesus just having graduated school, and is now ready to change it for the better. He is later seen studying at a party, where Satan just so happened to be preforming a song about doing drugs and ruining lives. Jesus, while annoyed at first, finally gives in and they leave together to party. During this, the two develop a relationship and end up having sex. Their inter corse resulted in the creation of Earth, a kind of Earth that Jesus did not at approve of. Jesus (now grown) tried to fix it, but he only ended up making it worse. Satan was the baby's weekend dad, and he planned to participate in adult activities with the planet, only continuing to worsen it. When Satan went to return the planet, he was greeted with an empty house. He walked down the street and eventually found Jesus sulking on the sidewalk. Satan is saddened to see Jesus in this state, and wanted to rebuilt their relationship. They decide to throw the Earth in the garbage and spend the rest of the skit holding hands and dancing in a sunny park.

Appearance[]

In the comic series, Satan's depictions looked more similar to that of the other characters. He had red skin and clothes, a pair of red horns, a pointed red tail, and his sphere. In the animated series, he now had thicker horns what were bone-colored, a two-piece mustache, a goatee, a shirt that displays his hairy chest, and a pair of sunglasses. In God's Song, he wore a grey leather vest with many zippers on it.

Personality[]

In the comic series, Satan presented the same personality that he often presents in his other depictions. This Satan seemed to be bent on evil, burning people at the end of most comics, and praising evildoers. In the animated series, Satan presents a "cool guy" personality, having both his attire and voice emphasize this. He seems to act more like a trouble-maker that likes getting up to no good, his torture devolving to childish pranks and shenanigans.

Trivia[]

  • In the comic animation, he is voiced by a different actor and is credited as "The Devil" rather than Satan.
  • There is a mini-figure version of satan wearing a cook's apron.
  • In many instances, Satan has been portrayed as a homosexual.
  • Everything in "God's Song" is sung.
