Saulo Gouveia is a major antagonist in the Brazilian telenovela Passione. He was the son and brother of the protagonists Bete and Totó, respectively.
He was portrayed by Werner Schünemann.
Personality[]
Saulo was smug, arrogant, and wrathful. He lacked empathy to everyone surrounding him, including his wife and children. He was very skeptical about his image, and wanted at all costs be the CEO of Gouveia Metallurgy Company, just as a sign of his arrogance, as he claimed to deserve it more than anyone else. He sometimes could act nice if it meant help on his goals.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Besides not being Bete's oldest son, he was raised as it, and had the aspiration of work at Gouveia, probably digging reaching the position of CEO. It's shown he never got along with anyone, be it his parents, siblings, or coworkers. He always showed his disdain towards Mauro, for him being only the chauffer's son. At some point he got married with Stela, and had children, probably with the intentions of having a sucessor, which haven't gone so right as his male children were into professional biking.
He also showed his infidelity, as it's revealed he had an affair with one of Gouveia's employee, Laura, and even Clara when she was still a minor.
Passione[]
The story of Passione begins when Saulo's father, Eugênio, died, and Saulo was already claiming to be the next CEO of Gouveia, but once his mother Bete, proclaimed herself as the new CEO, he started his fight to the CEO position. His first plan was to plead Bete's mental instability to run the company, which failed, but once Fred starts working at Gouveia as the attorney of Bete's lost son Totó, they team up as Fred was also a malicious person. Together, they sabotaged Mauro's bike project that had Bete's approval, and Fred seduced Saulo's sister, Melina, so most of the shareholders agree to make him the CEO.
As a CEO, he demotes Mauro as a way of humiliate him, and promote Fred to financial director. However, their luck is not long once Melina gives up on marrying Fred, who blackmails Saulo to expose the true, if he didn't maintain him as the financial director. To maintain his power, he decided to take advantage of the newfound realization that his daugher, Lorena, was actually dating his lost brother's son, Agnello, and showed approval of the incestuous relationship, as it could get him closer to Totó. After claiming he wanted to meet and bond with his brother, he almost travels to Italy, but gives up when he finds out his brother was actually in Brazil. When he finally gets the chance to do so, he proposes to buy Totó's shares, which after some thought, he denied. Still as a president, he fires Mauro, but it doesn't last long, once his constant abuse of power, among the project of the employee he just fired turned out to do great at another company, it was enough to convince the shareholders to take Saulo out of the presidency. He comes back to his role as a financial director, still claiming to get his spot back.
Meanwhile, his son, Danilo, was dealing with drug addiction, and Saulo didn't pay any mind when he traveled to Italy all by himself, and was complaining about the cost of paying his rehab. However the rock bottom was the day Danilo came home crying for help, and Saulo disowned him, claiming he was just a burden and he didn't consider him his son anymore. Once Stela found out about that, she finally asked for the divorce.
He started manipulating Melina's rage for Diana and Mauro for him giving up on marrying her, and in one specific situation, he caught Melina sabotaging Diana's work and blackmails her. He also blackmailed his brother, Gerson, to tell the truth about a secret he discovered, that wasn't revealed to the public yet. And at last, he discovered Stela was cheating on him with Agnello, and beats her up, and said that on the moment he came back home, she would leave, but he didn't come back, as he was murdered.
Who killed Saulo?[]
After his murder, until the end of the story, the mystery of his murder started to unfold. Due to his character, he made tons of enemies, and a lot of them were plausible options for his murderer. There were main options, that kept the mystery alive, and some minor ones, that stopped being counted as options by the story overtime, but still weren't discarded.
Agnello: His nephew, and had an affair with Stella, and got a beating from Saulo before his murder. When he testified to the police, he claimed he was having dinner with his family, which was untrue, and to his family, he claimed being with his car in front of Stella's apartment building, but his alibi wasn't shown.
Stella: His own wife, had a terrible relationship with Saulo, and same as Agnello, she claimed to be in his car in front of his apartment building. She didn't show up in front of her children, but she was actually satisfied with Saulo's demise. To the police, she claimed to be shopping with the house's butler. In later stages, she confessed the crime, but she stated only be doing this to protect Danilo, who was claiming to have killed Saulo himself.
Danilo: His son, after being renegated by his father, while under chemical effects, out of rage of his father, he could've killed him. It was witnessed he was with blood on his clothes and claimed he "commited an insanity". When he was found and sent to rehab, he kept claiming he killed his father, something he might have hallucinated while on chemical effects, or might be the truth.
Gerson: His brother, after being blackmailed, showing signs of mental instability could've managed to kill his own brother, no further evidences reinforced this hypotesis, but it still existed.
Laura: His ex-mistress. Had a fight with him a few days before of the crime. Was seen in Gouveia at a time only him was in there, had an alibi of go looking for her medicine, but it was a lie. Later it was revealed that she had a scheme with Noronha regarding the money embezzlement, which could very well be his murder.
Noronha: His right-hand. Was shown having a scheme regarding the money embezzlement with Laura, and at some point even threatened to kill Mauro once he found out about it.
Fred: The main suspect. Found out about the embezzlement a short time before the murder, was quick on go to Switzerland where the fortune was being kept and took it to him. He asked for his mother to be his alibi as he had none, and was seen near the area where the crime took place.
