Lord Saundor is a minor antagonist in the first campaign of the Dungeons & Dragons webseries Critical Role and its animated adaptation The Legend of Vox Machina. He serves as the main antagonist of episode 63 of the campaign as well as the eighth episode of Season 2, both titled "Echo Tree".

He is an archfey prince who was left by his lover Wodenna. He fell into despair and gave into dark tendencies as a result and now wants to find a companion to rule the Shademuk Bog with, not wanting to be alone.

He was voiced by Sendhil Ramamurthy, who also portrayed Bloodwork in The Flash and Ra's al Ghul in DC Super Hero Girls.

Appearance[]

Saundor is a gaunt elven-looking person coated in thorns and leaves. He has yellow glowing eyes and his body is attached to a tree via viney tendrils that covered him.

Personality[]

Saundor used to be happy and jovial when he had his lover by his side. But once she left him, he became bitter, violent, and miserable. While depressed, however, he would try to introduce himself as positively as he could with newcomers, like Vex'ahlia, albeit in a manipulative manner. Because of the afore mentioned betrayal, he does not take well to being rejected.

Biography[]

Background[]

Back when Saundor was happy, he was in a relationship with a woman called Wodenna. He loved her more than anything in the realm. For undisclosed reasons however, she left him. After that, Saundor gave into depression, despair, and madness, causing his corruption, and willingness to corrupt others. He became so wrathful, His heart literally turned dark and he released black incor around the tree he resided in, turning it into his lair now a dark bog.

Critical Role[]

Vox Machina searched through the Shademurk Bog on a quest to find the Vestiges of Divergence. The one in question they expected to find here was Fenthras, a legendary longbow. They found the tree Saundor resided in. Scanlan announced his pressence to Saundor, passing himself off as one of his devotees. Saundor answered and the tree opened, revealing a pathway for the party to go through. Desperate to have a companion, Saundor called out to Vex'ahlia. He reached out to her by catering to what she wanted from her father, which was approval, assuring her he could give her more than that. He proposed a bond with her, but Vex declined and shot at him

Angered by the refusal, Saundor attacked her, eventually to the point where she was rendered unconscious, but did so at a distance. Angered by this, Grog ran to Vex's defense, throwing his Javelin of Lightning at the archfey prince. The weapon ran through Saundor's mouth. The lightning of the weapon tore Saundor to pieces, effectively slaying him.

The Legend of Vox Machina[]

Keyleth, Percy, Vex, & Vax went through the Fey Realm in search for Fenthras, finding their way into the Shademurk. Vex then stopped as she heard a voice whisper through her mind. She then found herself uncontrollably walking in the direction of the tree, which was then revealed to be Saundor's lair. Saundor had her walk all the way to where he was. He told her he was aware of her father's cruelty and ungratefulness towards her and promised he could give her more than what she thought she wanted.

Vax, Keyleth, & Percy make their way into the tree, but Saundor restrained them with vines so they would not disrupt. He then continued to try seducing Vex, but she came to her senses when he got to close and attacked him. Infuriated by this, Saundor resorted to violence by drawing the bow, Fenthras and repeatedly shot at Vex. The two had a constant ranged attack fight until Vex lost her quiver and the rest of her arrows. Saundor eventually had Vex by the throat. Saundor tried to repropose his offer, but Vex grabbed an arrow tip Percy give her and plunged it into Saundor's corrupted heart, destroying the organ and the rest of Saundor's body as he melted in anguish before the half-elf.
