Sauvix

Sauvix is one of the three secondary antagonists (along with Tarpok and Scibus) of the Doctor Who story "Warriors of the Deep".

He was portrayed by the late Christopher Farries.

Biography[]

Sauvix was the commander of Sea Devil Elite Group One. He and his men were revived from suspended animation by the Silurian leader Icthar. Sauvix immediately recognised Icthar's authority and agreed to his plan. Icthar and Sauvix planned to take control of Sea Base 4, a human underwater base during a cold war situation, and activate its preprogrammed proton missiles. This would trigger the two sides' mutual destruction protocols, resulting in the humans wiping out each other and the Silurians and Sea Devils being free to reclaim Earth.

Sauvix led his Sea Devils in attacking one of the sea base's airlocks, with the Myrka attacking another one at the same time. With the Sea Devils' armour being resistant to the humans' weapons, Sauvix and his men easily killed most of the crew, taking a few prisoners including the Doctor and his companions, and secured the base for Icthar.

When the Doctor and some of the other prisoners escaped, Icthar sent Sauvix to search for them. Sauvix found them preparing to flood the base with hexachromite gas, which was harmless to mammals but lethal to reptiles. Although he had orders to kill the Doctor, Sauvix ordered him to disconnect the gas first. Lieutenant Preston tried to grab her weapon but Sauvix killed her. However, the distraction allowed Lieutenant Bulic to turn the gas on Sauvix, killing him.

Trivia[]

Sauvix is the only Sea Devil named in the television series, with the principal Sea Devil in their first appearance simply being referred to as Chief Sea Devil. However, there have been Sea Devils named in other media.
- In the episode "Legend of the Sea Devils", one Sea Devil was named as "Marsissus" in production documents, but was not referred to as such in the episode proper.
