Wanda Maximoff, better known as the Scarlet Witch, is a major character in Marvel Comics, most often appearing as an on-and-off antagonist to the Avengers, the X-Men, and Doctor Strange, and specifically serving as the main antagonist of both the Avengers Disassembled and House of M storylines.
Originally serving her father Magneto as a member of his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, along with her twin brother Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and her brother eventually abandoned the Brotherhood and sought out new lives as heroes by joining the Avengers.
Wanda Maximoff and her Brother Pietro are children of a Romani witch named Natalya Maximoff and unknown father. She give the kids to her brother Django Maximoff and his wife Marya. Later kidnap by High Evolutionary to experiment on. While in experiment, High Evolutionary mess with their DNA make them appear in Cerebro of Professor X like they are mutants. Wanda also has been imbued with Chthon Chaos Magic. High Evolutionary want to give Wanda and Pietro to Whizzer and Miss America. But the former fled and the latter died after a miscarriage. So he give them back to Django and Marya.
Living with their parents. One day because of their poverty, Django and Pietro decide to steal food from the village. They get caught which cause outrage and they burn their caravan. Wanda and Pietro believe their parents has been killed. Wandering around central Europe until they were rescue by Magneto. Feeling grateful, Wanda and Pietro join Brotherhood of Evil mutants to repaid their debt. Adopt the code name Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver.
At some point Magneto disappear, she and her brother join the Avengers. Wanda fall in love and married a Vision. Due to the misunderstanding because of the confuse situations of Erik, Magda, and Bova, humanoid cow made by High Evolutionary. Magneto would proclaim to Wanda, Pietro and the Avengers that he is Wanda and Pietro father, mistaking to believe that they are kids of him and Magda.
Wanda and Vision would somehow have sons, they name their son Billy and Tommy. This is not part of Immortus plan, he want Wanda to married Vision because he doesn't want Wanda to give birth to the powerful children. They were made by the soul pieces of Mephisto. So Immortus manipulate the event that lead to Vision be disassembling. Avengers manage to rebuild him but he lost his emotion, as Wanda kids existent was tied to the connection of Wanda and Vision love, they start to disappear. Allowing them to be weak enough to reclaim by Mephisto.
To relieve Wanda of her pain. Agatha Harkness would decide to erase Wanda memory of her kids as Agatha and Avengers agree to keep this as secret between them, Wanda and Vision would divorce soon after. This however would later backfire when she later regain memory of her sons. Immortus manipulation and Agatha good intention would lead to the worst outcome possible.
Avengers Disassembled[]
After fellow Avengers' member Wasp accidentally let slip a comment about Wanda's children, who had been erased from reality and all memory of whom had been wiped from Wanda's mind, Wanda embarked on a quest to restore her children to life. Knowing that this would require black magic, she sought out Doctor Doom for help, who agreed to aid her, finding a power source for her to boost her powers to alter reality. Wanda's already extremely fragile mental state was driven over the edge however, causing her to lash out at the Avengers, killing several of their members and causing them to disband before being subdued and taken to Genosha by her father, Magneto.
House of M[]
After extensive therapy from Doctor Strange and Professor Xavier failed to cure Wanda's mental illness, and with her powers still out of control, the Avengers and X-Men met to determine her fate. The conversation quickly turned towards whether or not she should be put down, causing her brother Quicksilver to warn Magneto of the heroes' plans. When he found that even Magneto himself was considering this option, having failed to save his daughter, Quicksilver told her to use her connection to Professor Xavier and her now immense powers to create the perfect world. Wanda agreed, and used her powers to alter reality, creating a world where mutants were the majority and where her father Magneto was ruler of the world. Some heroes retained their memories of what the true world was supposed to be however, and Wanda's "perfect world" quickly proved to have many flaws.
The heroes eventually recovered their memories and attacked Magneto, believing him to be responsible. After restoring his memories of the real world, they found out that Quicksilver was the one that had instructed Wanda to create this world, and a furious Magneto killed his son in a rage. A horrified Wanda brought her brother back to life, and finally snapped, declaring that even when he had everything he wanted, her father was still an awful man, and that he cared more about mutants than his own children. To punish him, Wanda used her powers and declared "No More Mutants", erasing the mutant genome after restoring reality, with only a handful of mutants retaining their powers.
Avengers: The Children's Crusade[]
Wanda disappear after the M-day, presumably decrease. However in fact, she was in Latervia. Thanks to the intervention of her reincarnates sons and their friends. They are able to make her regain her memories and stop X-men from assassinate her. She attempt to kill herself out of guilt, but was stop by her twin sons Billy and Tommy, make her has a reason to continue living.
It was reveal that the reason Wanda has enough power to created House of M was due to Victor von Doom empowering her by "Life Force" to help her revived her sons, but it's too powerful and cause her to had mental breakdown. Dr. Doom Wanda and Billy attempt to repowering all mutants using Life force. But instead, Doom stole her power and attempt to created Utopia where mutants wouldn't ever want to regain their powers. However, Avengers and X-men are able to fight Dr. Doom long enough for Wanda and Billy to seal Life Force back where it's belong. Before Dr. Doom leaving, he claim that he manipulate all Wanda actions, and she's nothing more than his puppet. X-men however don't believe that and still hold grudge toward Wanda, but they agree to leave her alone.
Avengers vs. X-Men[]
Scarlet Witch is the main weapon for team Avengers to fight Phoenix Five. Because her Chaos Magic has opposite property to Phoenix Force as reveal by Hope Summer. They were able to defeat Namor and Magik, but every times one of Phoenix five was defeat, their power transfer to the rest of the team members until it's too much f Wanda to defeat them. As only Emma and Cyclops are 2 left Phoenix host, Phoenix Force began to overwhelming them, while Avengers training Hope to become suitable host for Phoenix.
Eventually Both Avengers and X-Men confront Cyclops. He defeat Emma to take her Phoenix powers, but was overwhelming and become the Dark Phoenix. He was able to regain control for a moment, beg Wanda and Hope to kill him. Hope however, was able to take Cyclops power without killing him and becom White Phoenix. Scarlet Witch combine her power with hope to cast new spell. "No More Phoenix". Increase mutant populations back to normal level and make Phoenix Force temporary disappear.
Darkhold[]
Dr. Doom discover true Darkhold. Resulting in Chthon be able to return to earth without using Scarlet Witch as a vessel. Scarlet Witch and Dr. Doom decide to join force and recruit 5 others heroes. Iron Man, Blade, Wasp, Black Bolt, and Spider-Man. 5 heroes reading Darkhold in attempt to gain more power, but Darkhold turn them insane by the memory of alternate versions of themselves.
The team was send to fight Chthon in his realm. When Doctor Doom about to confront the demon directly, Wanda betrayed him and take Darkhold for herself. Fusing with it, she able to imprison Chthon inside her body. She undid the corruption done to heroes and teleport them back to earth including Omega the Unknown, who is a character from Bronze Age. Afterward Wanda talk with Dr. Doom about her not follow their agreement, she taunt him about he using her in House of M and what she did is just take back on him. She attack Dr. Doom but as she predict, he is a Doom Bot. Wanda finally get her revenge toward Chthon and Dr. Doom. She fly away from Doom castle and declare she is now free.
X-Men: The Trial of Magneto[]
Wanda meeting Erik in Hellfire Gala, both of them still view each others as family even after it's reveal that they are not actually relate.
Wanda later found death in the party by her son Tommy. Erik try to make her be revived by resurrection protocol. Weirdly enough, Wanda and Pietro has backup that has not been update in Cerebro after it notice that both of them aren't really mutants, around the time that Wanda hadn't give birth to Billy and Tommy yet. The Quite Council vote disagree by majority due to her not being mutants and old back up, Exodus and Emma due to their hatred toward her. As the entire Krakoa celebrate her death. Erik was attack by X-men try to capture him, believing him to be the murder. Tommy and David discover that her body disappear. Her power manifest as Wundagore flower, later pick up by Steve and Avengers team come to retrieve Wanda body.
Polaris has mental breakdown. Launch her power at her father Magneto, blaming him for killing her sister. Join by Quicksliver who knock him out and almost beat him to death but was stop by Jan Paul. Jean Grey try to read Erik mind to know what happen, but too much grief, anger and sadness in Erik soul make her unable to know what happen. She let Hope and Xavier continue attempt and leave with other X-men to welcome Avenger members, try to distract them long enough to while they try to find Wanda body. Later they found Cerebro disappear and Magneto take it.
it was reveal that Hope mind control Erik and order him to fight Avengers, buying her time to her and other the five member to resurrect Wanda, ignoring council order as they are too important to be punished. When hope is about begin the process, Wanda revive herself. The five dress her up and bring her to meet Avengers. Everyone confuse why Wanda was revive but with incomplete memory. Rachel and Jean Grey decide to fill up her memory from outside perspectives. Which mostly include the bad things Wanda had done in the past.
Unable to cope with these memory, she accidentally created three monsters that attack Krakoa. In astral plane Wanda was killed again and again by unknown figure in white hood. The attempt of the five to revive her cause her soul to spilt in two. Wanda with present memory in astral plane able to gain an upper hand, the figure in white hood reveal herself to be old woman Wanda from future, continue to attack her because that what she want, she will only stop when Wanda forgive herself.
Back in physical world. Wanda refuse to accept the memory of her wrong actions. Tommy and Billy call out that everyone is afraid of her because her inability to accept what happened and she need to accept her own actions in order to make things right. Wanda finally accept her actions as the same time as other Wanda forgive herself. Present Wanda and Future Wanda appear on Krakoa and help the heroes defeat the monsters. Wanda past and present self fuse back into one being as future Wanda tell her to live on with hope before disappear.
With the monsters be defeats. Wanda reveal that Toad is her killer. Toad claiming that he doing it because she tore Brotherhood of mutants apart and turned her back on mutantkind, say he did it's for Magneto before he was drag to be imprison under Krakoa.
However, the true is Wanda killed herself and need it to look like a murder as the council wouldn't ressurect people that kill themselve, and Magneto ask Toad to take the blame and he accept because he respect Magneto and love Wanda. Now been go through the process of Resurrection Protocol, she understand it and can upgrade it. Wanda want to cast another spell, requiring help from three powerful mutants who are kids of three people that laid the foundation of Krakoa as a nation. Lorna Dane, daughter of Magneto. David Haller, son of Professor X. And Kevin MacTaggert, son of Moira MacTaggert. (Wanda only feel subconsciously that Kevin is important, unknown the true nature of Moira).
However, the spell doesn't work. Polaris say that Wanda should take her place of instead of Polaris herself as Magneto daughter. The spell succeed and they created Elysium field that work as mutant heaven, haboring the souls of mutants from both past and present. This also allow mutant that want to be revived put their memory in resurrection protocol. Eliminate the need of crucible. (The process of depower mutant need to fight to their death to be allow to get revive with power.) The first mutant revive thanks to Wanda heaven is Thunderbird. As the crowd sheer for his return. Professor X shock that how is this possible, Hope answer "The Scarlet Witch".
Exodus, who use to teach propaganda to make mutants hate Wanda, forgive her and now tell the story of how the Pretender became the Redeemer. As Wanda and Exodus sit around campfire with children telling her story. The event end with the teasing of new Scarlet Witch story.
Wanda's power has been retcon multiple times just like her origin. Originally it was though that her power is mutant ability call Hex Bolts. Allowing her to manipulate probability and luck, make thing that unlikely to happen happened as long as their is a change. Later however, Agatha Harkness teaching her how to use real magic. The most recent retcon make her powers to come from a witch bloodlines, and have "blessing" of Chthon, and non of her powers have anything to do with X-gene.
Chaos Magic: Wanda's main power is the superhuman ability to manipulate the powerful magic known as Chaos magic, a dark magic, which allows her to alter reality and control various forms of mystical energy. Wanda received the "blessing/curse" of the old God of chaos, Chthon, who came to her, the day she was born, which would allow her to use his chaos magic as her own and this would increase Wanda's natural ability to magic.
Witchcraft: Maximoff is a human of magical birthright which means she possesses the ability to manipulate magic since the very beginning. She was born a human with the affinity to control magic, allowing her to use the witchcraft she was born with and that her powers were never gave to her by the High Evolutionary as it was believed rather, he had altered her so Wanda is more receptive to magical energy. She was chosen to be one of the candidates as the next Sorcerer Supreme.
Divine Sources: Wanda Maximoff can tap and channel energies from other dimensions as well as mystical and non-mystical entities other than Chthon, such as Cyttorak and Morrigan. She is actually considered the very Nexus Being of the central universe of Earth-616. Since Wanda is a nexus being, she acts a living focal point for earth's and her universe's mystical energies, making her much more capable to harness and use various kinds of magic as she desires.
Spells and Phrases: Scarlet Witch has a vast knowledge of mystical spells and incantations invoking names and aspects of various extra-dimensional objects, beings and sources of power. Although she has shown the ability to cast "spells" by only saying or focusing on what she wants to happen, this could be related to the nature of her powers. She was trained by Agatha Harkness, who taught her how to control and utilize her magic for many mystical purposes, such as
Astral Projection: She is able to project her spirit or astral form out of her physical body in order to travel into the spirit world or the astral plane. She still can use her powers in her astral form and can do this even while unconscious.
Binding: Wanda has the power to bind and stop someone from moving with her magic and she has used this to stop someone as strong as Colossus.
Biological Manipulation: Her sorcery allows her to manipulate life on cellular level as well as control all aspects of living creature's biological make-up. For an instance, she can heal different kinds of injures and wounds She once tries to age Jennifer's gamma radioactivity until it's inert. She also has linked the Hulk and a bunch of other Hulks, allowing Banner to merge with them. After the upgrade in her powers, Wanda now can heal every injury in her body with ease.
Bond Manipulation: Can manipulate and induce bond of others. She is able to strengthen the bond between the Bloodwraith and the Slorenia itself, to its boundaries as well as its people, trapping the Bloodwraith within the country.
Chaos Manipulation: Maximoff has the ability to control chaos and manipulate chaotic forces, like she did against the In-Betweener, restoring him to a whole being, after he tapped her powers.
Clairvoyance: Wanda Maximoff has the ability to receive information about a person or an object even though she has never directly seen them before. She also has the ability to predict the future. She has used a divination spell to search Hope Summers' location and she has had a dream about Black Knight's fate when he was in another dimension.
Duplication: The Scarlet Witch is capable of replicating and multiplying herself and others. She has used this power to multiply germs in the Wrecking Crew’s bodies, incapacitating them with sickness.
Energy Constructs: As an experienced magic user, Scarlet Witch has performed the ability to turn her magical energy into tools, objects, weapons, and other items to suit her needs. She has created a shield, sword, knife, sharp whip and other projectiles, weapons and constructions of mystical energy.
Energy Manipulation: Wanda is capable to manipulate various forms of energy.
Energy Absorption: Wanda was capable to absorb and channel energy. Wanda once absorbed Wonder Man's ionic powers as a power source and used it to teleport all of mutantkind into a spaceship.
Energy Projection: Wanda was capable to release and project powerful energy blasts of various shapes and/or intensities, such as bolts, beams, bursts and waves, that can knock, destroy, slice, and annihilate her targets. Wanda has shown that her energy blasts can knock out god-like beings. This ability becomes the most frequently she uses in almost every fight.
Energy Transferal: Wanda was capable to take energies from one target and put or transfer it into another several targets or beings. Wanda once returned so many energies Rogue has borrowed back to their previous owners.
Flight: Maximoff has also proven to be able to fly at will. She can also give others the ability to do so. The full extent of this ability is unknown, but she was capable of fighting an enemy while flying. She has also shown the ability to levitate, as she has done while meditating in the lotus position.
Force Field: As one of the most powerful witches on the planet, Wanda Maximoff has shown to be capable of projecting powerful fields and shields of mystical energy that she can use for many different purposes. She was capable to protect herself and her allies against many destructive attacks such as bullets, blasts, or explosions. She was also capable to use her force field to contain many items, as well as to prevent someone from teleporting, like she did to Voyager. Not only that, she was also capable to defend herself automatically, meaning her powers can defend her against attacks without her conscious will. She created a force-field around the town of Lotkill.
Gravity Decrease: She can decrease the effect of gravity.
Illusions: Wanda has demonstrated the power to generate and cast realistic illusion. With this power, she was able to fool her enemies like she did to Emerald Warlock. Wanda has also demonstrated the power to create and shape holograms to entertain or to help her explain about any event or incident better.
Invisibility: Maximoff possesses the ability to make objects or people unseen, casting an invisibility spell on Wonder Man.
Location Tracking: Can find, probe, and track the location of anyone she desires at the moment over any distance or conditions. She once manages to find someone who previously inhabited Mjolnir, and guide Thor to him.
Magical Awareness: Scarlet Witch has displayed the ability to be aware of almost anything that affects her and her surroundings.
Mechanical Manipulation: Can control and manipulate machine as well as mechanical objects. As seen for example, she is able to freeze up, control, and damage Alkhema's internal molecular rearranger.
Nature Manipulation: Wanda has shown to be capable to manipulate and command nature at her will. She also has an affinity with nature due to her witch training.
Elemental Manipulation: Wanda can control and generate the elements. She stated that power over natural or classic elements comes more easily to her.
Weather Manipulation: Wanda can manipulate and influence the weather, creating rain in a certain area.
Necromancy: Maximoff can contact and communicate with the deceased. She has done it to make contact with the Slorenian dead.
Non-Physical Interaction: Wanda Maximoff has the power that allows her to affect and harm intangible beings, such as ghosts, intangible demons, spirits, and Vision.
Physical Augmentation: Wanda can channel her magic through her body to enhance her physical abilities to superhuman levels, as shown during her fight with the Class-100 Scythia.
Protection Spell: Wanda can cast the spell of protection so that she and her teammates can be protected against certain danger. She has casted protection hex to herself, Thor, and Odin to keep them safe from knee-deep acid. She also has maintained protective aura around the Avengers and the civilians, keep them safe from the ruins.
Purification: During her time as a mystic, Maximoff has demonstrated the ability to purify any kind of objects. She has magically purified a lake and thrown a demon, who at the time possessed 2 people, in it to protect the victims. She used spell in this case.
Power Manipulation: Her magic allows her to control superpowers that her targets have, as well as reflect and redirect any power that is projected against Wanda herself.

Reality Warping: One of the most well-known powers that Wanda Maximoff has is her ability to shape, warp, defy and bend reality itself. She has been stated as one of the world's greatest and most dangerous reality warpers. She can use this ability to create anything and everything from nothing and can disintegrate as well as erase person or object from existence. She can also combine her physical combat with her reality warping power, as she did against Hope Summers. Wanda trapped Doctor Hydro in a bubble reality woven from New Jersey DMV. Wanda beated Dreamqueen in a reality-warp fight, and later traped the villain in her own dimension. Wanda was able to make herself and Polaris microscopically small to get into the Tinyverse, and with the help of her sister, she made the Sword in the Star, a myth, in reality. Wanda also made the people which lived in a building in Lotkill gain the lottery, after the building was destroyed by Scythia. Later, it was revealed that Wanda trap the demons she fight in pocket dimensions that she keep in jars.
Scanning: She was capable to invoke Thoth's Gaze to examine an area within the Savage Land and see what non-native beings had been there. Also, while using this spell, she could see that she and her teammates were in the middle of an ambush.
Scrying: Wanda can hear, view, and observe people's location and condition by making projection image that shows event that is happening in faraway place.
Soul Manipulation: Maximoff has proven to be capable to manipulate soul. She can use her magic to summon spirits from the afterlife and can resurrect the dead and bring them back to life. She was also capable to practice exorcism as well as read other people's aura so that she could determine if they are aligned with good or evil.
Telekinesis: Scarlet Witch possesses the power to move, stop, and manipulate objects. She has reacted and stopped Sabretooth who tried to catch her as well as thrown a truck at Thor.
Telepathy: Wanda has demonstrated the ability to enter, manipulate, and alter people's mindscape with or without the targets' agreement. She was able to take herself and Ka-Zar into Shanna's mind in order to free her from mind control. She was also able to induce other people to sleep, control the minds of others, and create realistic illusions in the minds of others to trick her opponents, like she did to Maynard Tiboldt. And not only that, she was even able to communicate and torture other people mentally, as well as read the mind of other beings.
Empathy: Wanda has demonstrated the ability to affect and control the emotions of others. She is capable of feeling the pain and anger of the Slorenian dead.
Fear Inducement: She is also capable of inducing fear into others.
Teleportation: Maximoff can teleport herself and others to any place she/they want across large distances.
Interdimensional Teleportation: She was able to travel interdimensionally.
Remote Teleportation: Also, she can summon/teleport persons or objects to her or any other people's location and can banish/teleport away person or objects from her location. Wanda transported Caeceleon to Monster Isle.
Portal Creation: The Scarlet Witch is able to open magical portals and gates to another location, gaining the ability to visit or banish anyone/anything in tremendous distances instantaneously.
Time Manipulation: Wanda Maximoff has proven to be capable of manipulating and controlling time. As a nexus being, Wanda also has the ability to alter the probabilities of cosmic timelines.
Time Stopping: She was able to stop and slow down time.
Time Acceleration: She once conjured a spell that causes a person’s body to rapidly break down as if it has endured five thousand years of "wear and tear" over a period of a mere five seconds.
Transmutation: The Scarlet Witch can transform or transmute anything into anything else, such as when she changed her clothes in an instant. She also has transmuted ice and snow into steam as well as transmuted Thor's lightning into butterflies. Wanda turned a truck into water and Corruptor into a stone statue.
Witch Sight: Wanda can see things beyond what normal humans can. For example, she was able to see an enhanced and invisible Man-Bull. She was also able to see Agatha Harkness's spirit and Moondragon's psychic assault which had been stated that no human eye could.
Probability Manipulation: Wanda has been stated as a probability manipulator of the highest order. Initially, Wanda had the ability to manipulate probability via her "hexes" (often manifesting physically as "hex spheres" or "hex bolts") which manipulated energy fields and matter to varying degrees, and could disrupt time. These hexes were initially short range, and were limited to her line of sight. Casting a hex would initially require a gesture and concentration on her part, though the gestures were largely a focus for the concentration. Early in her career, her hexes were unconscious, and would be automatically triggered whenever she made a particular gesture, regardless of her intent. These hexes would only manifest as "bad luck," triggering negative effects. She later gained enough control over her powers that they only worked when she wanted them to, and they were not limited to negative effects. Wanda can use her hexes to cause a wide variety of phenomena, including, but not limited to:
Spontaneous combustion or melting.
Rapid or spontaneous decaying, breaking, healing, or fixing.

First is Hope Serum, develope by Dr. Kavita Rao, an India geneticist, currently Beast is the only person with the a sample of it, it's unknown what happened of it because he's currently dead.
Second is Moira mutants cure she created in her third life's, but it was destroy by Mystique and Destiny of that timeline and they force her to help mutants in her next life before let Pyro burn her to dead slowly as a reminder to reset timeline. At current 616 tineline, Moira planed to use cure on all mutants again to save their life from race war, but once again foiled by Mystique and Destiny and get depowered herself, preventing 616 timeline to be reset again.
Wanda and Pietro parents origin has been retcon multiple time, the lates retcon make her daughter from a witch name Natalya Maximoff with unknown father. But most Marvel fans prefer Magneto to be both of twins father, and by extension being real mutants. Marvel keep identity of Wanda and Pietro father as a possibly of retcon the twins back into being Magneto kids in the future.
She was a very controversial character among X-Men fans, as they debate whatever she deserve forgiveness or not considering her tragedies and her crimes, and the fact that there are even worse people on Quite Council of Krakoa. The only in universe reason that Krakoa government didn't forgive her is because "She's not a real mutant".
This is end when Marvel decide to fully redeem her in Trial of Magneto event. When she's forgiven form both in universe and real life fans. (Still not a mutant though)
