Wanda Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch and later as the Red Queen, is a supporting antagonist in the Disney+ Marvel Cinematic Universe animated series What If...? and the main antagonist of its 2025 spin-off series Marvel Zombies.
She was a member of the Avengers and a powerful superhuman capable of producing a mythical form of magic called Chaos Magic. In 2018, she became infected with a Quantum Virus that turned her into a zombie, and she was taken under care by Vision during the android's attempt to find a cure. Eventually, she regained control of her mind thanks to her powers, but schemed to turn all of humanity into zombies and take over the world by using the Infinity Stones.
Her first variant summoned by Doctor Strange Supreme to eliminate Infinity Ultron, but she was apparently killed alongside the zombie horde by the A.I. The second variant was captured by Strange Supreme; she fights the young Mohawk Kahhori who uses her powers to send back her in her universe, so she can continue of taking over the planet.
Like her Earth-199999 self, she is voiced by Elizabeth Olsen, who also portrayed Thérèse Raquin in the 2013 In Secret adaptation and Candy Montgomery in Love & Death.

It's assumed that Wanda Maximoff's past is similar to her mainstream counterpart, being born in Sokovia alongside her twin brother, Pietro Maximoff. After the death of their parents, Wanda and Pietro would unlock their powers after being exposed to the Scepter by HYDRA. Wanda would become a member of the Avengers after stopping Ultron, a rogue A.I. created by Tony Stark that was intent on destroying humanity.
What If...? (2021)[]
Scarlet Witch would become infected by the Quantum virus after Hank Pym brought his infected wife from the Quantum Realm, and she was taken in care by Vision in Camp Leigh. While staying in Camp Leigh, Wanda would be fed survivors by Vision, who would trick humans into coming to the camp to feed his beloved. Two weeks following the start of the outbreak, Vision would give Wanda Black Panther to consume, but only had consumed his leg. She would encounter the survivors who were manipulated by Vision to travel to Camp Leigh, and escaped from her cell and killed Kurt Goreshter and Okoye. Scarlet Witch then battled Bucky Barnes, Spider-Man and Hulk, but stopped when she noticed that Vision was deactivated while the other heroes escaped.
When Doctor Strange Supreme was battling Infinity Ultron to stop the alternate version from eradicating all life in the multiverse, the sorcerer summoned Scarlet Witch and the zombies from another timeline universe distinct Earth-199999 to fight the A.I. Scarlet Witch from distant timeline attempted to destroy Ultron with her powers, but the A.I. absorbed her powers with the Infinity Stones, and proceeded to destroy the planet, Wanda and the zombie horde were standing on, destroy all of them.
Another variant of Wanda was captured by Strange Supreme along with others heroes and villains to be sacrifice in his Forge to restore his universe and his lover, Christine. She fights briefly Kahhori who uses her powers to send back her in her universe.

- Her trapping the entire world in a hex teases a possible adaptation of the House of M storyline.
- She has two variants in What If...?:
- The first variant was summoned with the zombies from distinct timeline in Earth-199999 to fight the Ultron. She attempted to destroy Ultron with her powers, but Ultron absorbed her powers with the Infinity Stones, and destroyed the planet, Wanda and the zombie horde.
- The second variant was also summoned in distinct timeline but was capture by Strange Supreme in the Forge. She briefly fights Kahhori who uses her powers to send her back to her universe, so she can continue her plans.
- Scarlet Witch is considered to be the strongest zombie the heroes ever fought, as she is called the Queen of the Dead. Here are reasons why:
- Five years after the beginning of the zombie outbreak, she managed to full restore her consciousness and awareness, even as a zombie.
- She brainwashed an entire zombie army, including Captain America, Hawkeye, Ghost, Okoye, Abomination, Namor, Red Guardian, Melina Vostokoff, Yelena Belova, Hank Pym, Janet Van Dyne and Hope Van Dyne.
- She plans ahead before the survivors when they arrived to New Asgard, she tricks the Asgardians into eating dead corpses in disguise of food, which turns the Asgardians into zombie because gods can't get infected. Besides, Red Gurdian also infected when he eats them.
- She also absorbed the powers of all 6 the Infinity Stones from Infinity Hulk.
