Scarpine is the secondary antagonist of the 1985 James Bond movie A View To A Kill. He is the right-hand man of Max Zorin, serving as his head of security for Zorin Industries.
He was portrayed by Patrick Bauchau in his first villainous role.
History[]
Scarpine is introduced to James Bond under the alias of St. John Smythe, who arrived at the security check about Zorin's sales of the horses. He tells Bond all the necessary information about what events will be taking place at the horse sale and even takes him to the showing. He then sends Bond on his way to the guest quarters.
It later turns out that Scarpine is involved in Zorin's grand plot to destroy Silicon Valley in order for Zorin Industries to gain control of the microchip monopoly. It also turns out that several of Zorin's microchips were used to administer illegal horse steroids (created by Hans Glaub) to help earn prizes from the horse races.
Scarpine goes with Zorin and the rest of his men to San Francisco, where he assists Zorin's men into pumping water into them via a vast system of oil wells in order to finalize Zorin's plan to break the geological lock with explosives to have the San Andreas Fault and Hayward Fault to sink down Silicon Valley. Scarpine even helped Zorin shooting down their men while flooding the mines.
Taking refuge on a flying blimp, Scarpine watch along with Zorin and Glaub as they await the destruction of Silicon Valley. However, this was foiled when Bond manages to bring the bomb out from the lock, with the help from Zorin's former henchwoman May Day, who sacrifices herself to save Silicon Valley as revenge against Zorin for betraying her and her friends.
After Bond sends Zorin falling from the Golden Gate Bridge to his death in the bay, Scarpine (who was previously knocked out by Stacey Sutton) watches as Glaub lights up a dynamite to kill Bond in revenge for killing Zorin. However, Bond cuts the mooring rope attaching to the blimp, sending the latter away from the bridge and causing the dynamite to blow up the blimp, killing both Glaub and Scarpine.
