The Mayfair Neighborhood Watch meets every two weeks to discuss local concerns. Lately there’s been a rise in vandalism, and reports of a suspicious character lurking around the outskirts of town...
~ Description of the episode
This boogeyman you’ve invented isn’t real and you can’t accept that, so you’re trying to make me believe in him too. Everything that’s happened has been tragic, but these are isolated goddamn incidents. You’re making a monster out of copycats and mass hysteria!
~ Eddie Majeski, "Mayfair Watchers' Society - "Scissors"

Scissors is a character and urban legend created by Canadian horror artist Trevor Henderson that was also the subject of the Mayfair Watchers Soicety. It is an enigmatic being that terrorizes a neighborhood for several weeks before choosing a random house and killing the inhabitans.

Appearance[]

Very little is known about the creature's appearance due to how little witnesses there is. It is only known that he is around 6 feet tall, wears pants and a jacket, carries two large scissors around and has a hole at the left side of his head.

Biography[]

On an unknown date, being kept on track by Mayfair Neighborhood Watch Association members; Eddie Majeski, the chairman; Elizabeth O'Leary, the minute-taker, Clement Hayes, the coordinator and Simon J. Farelli, one of the block captains who decided to record their weekly sessions due to Elizabeth's sprained wrist. Mayfair Neighborhood starts to experience minor disturbances such as rising vandalism rates throughout the neighborhood. Reports of "graffiti tags" of exaggerated human genitals found for the second time that month at Sherman Memorial and, of Mason realty signs near the bus stop being vandalized and having the pictures eyes scratched out and reports of an unidentified car doing the rounds on Ward Street and Carson Avenue, which causes worry among residents. Members think that the crimes were committed by troubled teens.

2 weeks after the previous recording, the second session takes place. At the start of the session, a tense atmosphere is present. Clem brings up the incident that happened earlier in the week where Louise Fletcher's dog, Archie, in Butler Street, was attacked and mutilated by an unknown individual using scissors. Archie lived, yet lost his ear and tail, found covered in blood out in the yard. It was also told that Archie was acting on edge that night, barking at empty doorways and windows, which then caused Louise to put him out in the yard where he got attacked. Liz also brings up a report she got about a suspicious person walking down Collin's Grove Road while floating, reported by Mr. Crasky, someone known for reporting odd things such as finding a beached whale in his backyard. As the meeting continues, Ed brings up more vandalism reports, such as a broken fire hydrant on Forrester Avenue. Clem later brings up another vandalism that occurred at Sherman Memorial Library; someone had thrown a brick and broken one of the windows. Clem also brings up an incident that happened at the Hayward Textile Mill, which has been abandoned for years. A pair of teens sneaked in at night, thought they saw a ghost, and ran away. Floor gave out underneath one of them on the way out caused the teen to break their leg. Towards the end of the meeting, Simon brings up a post from Mayfair Facebook Discussion group. Jack Williams had posted a couple days ago that his kids were on the playground at Abernathy Park near the wooded area and saw somebody watching them from the treeline. Due to the foggy weather, only properties of the person he could catch; he was at least six feet tall and must have been wearing a hat or something. The post had been going off with comments saying that they had seen somebody similar at Abernathy. Clem brings up that the weird man they were talking about could be connected to Louise's dog's assault, which causes discussion among the group. They decide to give it to Abby and other officers to handle.

An emergency meeting is held shortly after the previous. Group seems more concerned and on edge. Simon starts by addressing more posts made on the Facebook group made by concerned parents, saying that their teenage sons got home in the middle of the night, reeking of liquor and scared, said that somebody was following them. Although they couldn't see much, they had said that the culprit was carrying scissors, and they also kept repeating that there was something wrong with his head. Teens had reported it independently, didn't even bother to omit the fact that they were drinking illegally at a friend's house before it happened. Clem questions if teens knew what they saw since they were drunk, which causes Simon to slightly lose his composure. As the group discusses if teens were only being paranoid. About the Abernathy Park situation, Liz brings up Ellie Scott, Martin's little girl, had a close call after school on Monday and screamed and ran at the first sign of trouble. Ellie also said that suspect was floating and "was like a pop-up book.". Simon brings up how Crasky also said the man was floating, which then Ted adds that Crasky is deranged and Ellie is seven years old so that they couldn't lose their minds over this kind of testimony. Upon this, Liz brings up kids seeing things outside their windows and how they keep finding scratches on doors and windows. Which Ed then adds how their minds could be playing tricks on them and that this was like how there was so much talk going around about Scissors guy that could cause people's minds to play tricks on them. Ed then asks Simon what else he has. Simon brings up four missing pets from different blocks, yet some clear similarities. It was like what happened to Archie, but in reverse; it was a butchery. Ed says that they thought they told people to keep their pets indoors, which then later Liz adds that they were indoors. Simon says that he was at the Graysons' to help with cleanup; the rug was soaked straight through, there was no forced entry by the looks of it. Ed, while adding he doesn't want to point fingers, questions if they are sure Graysons didn't do it. Simon gives this an utterly humorless laugh; "Yeah, sure, the Graysons did it. Just like the Smiths cut up their cat. And the Buccos theirs. And the Kumars too! They all killed their pets for no reason.". Group starts to discuss the killer when Liz brings up that she had contacted Jerry Stewart, the security system guy. Liz says that his people had the whole neighborhood covered, from all the different set-ups, including the people who recently lost their pets. Jerry had said that on the night of the pet incident, there were no abnormalities. All four families had his premium security package, but whoever got in didn't trip anything. Jerry had said that there was no footage, and he couldn't show her the specifics without the families consent, but he told her that "it was like the footage just skipped. Fine one second, bloody carpet the next.". Ed then suggests that they should look into Jerry, which Simon finds weird since Jerry hadn't walked in six months, which then Ed adds that his arms still work. Group starts to argue while Simon, Liz, and Clem all believed these were all done by one person. Ed wanted to consider every possibility and wasn't so sure that these were all caused by one person. Ed reminds Liz that this isn't our job. They argue about how law enforcement is yet to step in when Ed tells them that they were asking too much of Abby. Ed ends the meeting, saying they will reconvene in two weeks time.

4th recording starts. There was silence in the room. Tension between the group palpable. After the long silence, Ed talks; "If anyone would like to admit to anything, I'm opening up the floor." He had found a rusty pair of scissors stuck in his front door and believed that someone from the group did it. Despite others telling Ed where they were and that they didn't do it, Ed insists by saying that they could have asked someone for a favor. As Ed keeps being paranoid, they try to explain themselves, which Ed then calls all of them delusional, telling them that there was no bogeyman and that they were trying to make him believe in a monster they were making out of copycats and mass hysteria. Despite his paranoia, Clem tells Ed that they won't let him face this thing alone. Ed keeps lashing out at them, telling how his kids were scared, Abby wasn't home long enough to reassure them, and he couldn't take more days off at the pharmacy. Liz tries to soothe Ed, and Simon offers to man his front lawn with rifles. Ed says that he won't let any of them near his family, whether they've got guns, knives, or God forbid, scissors. Clem encourages the group to move on from the subject and leave the door subject for police to figure out. Meeting continues as Ed asks Simon about the news. Simon says that it was a mess; people were taking blurry pictures, sharing crackpot theories, and arguing. People were pointing fingers and turning petty grudges into accusations “I saw Goody Proctor with Scissors in Abernathy Park.”. Clem says that he heard Martin Scott had beat up Martin Campbell on Wednesday because he thought Steve was the one who tried to snatch Ellie because he saw him hanging around the block. Simon then asks if they are sure this thing is a person anymore. There is a long silence. Liz asks Simon to elaborate, then Simon brings up a video that is the closest to proof. He says he didn't want to watch it alone. Simon opens the video on his phone. As the fuzzy background noise of a cell phone recording kicks in, Liz asks where that is; Simon says that it was recorded by a kid who heard noises at night and decided to record. As the video plays, a kind of distant clunking noise is heard. Teen calls, "Hello? Anyone there?". Kid gets scared as something in the hallway could be seen. Sound of rusty teeth of scissors grinding against each other in the video is heard. The kid screams, and the video ends. Liz questions the video, saying they can't know if that is real, which then Simon and Clem point out sounds and screams are too realistic for a kid to make. Liz questions if someone could be trying to stir up trouble for kicks and reminds them of the clown nonsense that happened back in 2016. Ed tells them that he is concerned about the safety of his family. Liz asks if he could ask Abby to bring some guys in; Simon and Clem offer him aid in guarding his maw, which Ed then says that it might be too late. He had been hearing the scraping noise in the video for a few nights now, thought it might have been the wind on an old curtain rod or maybe the washing machine, but now he wasn't so sure. Liz asks if he believes in them now. Ed admits he does. Clem suggests Ed leave the town for a while with his family; they could hold fort in the meantime. Ed says he can't just leave, especially when things have gotten this bad and that he swore an oath. Smin tells him to discard the oath, but Ed refuses to be scared off. He'd have Abby post some lookouts at the door; she had her sidearm, and he had bought a revolver yesterday. Clem and Simon try to talk sense into him, but Ed refuses to back down, insistent on taking a stance against whoever ruined their community. He says that two weeks from today, they will meet there like they always have, and everything will be back to normal. He promises. Meeting ends.

5th session. Silence. Liz speaks, she is upset but trying to hide it.

LIZ

"Hello, everyone, and welcome to the meeting of the Mayfair Neighborhood Watch Association. I know it’s been longer than usual since our last meeting, but given recent events, you can understand why our regular operations were disrupted. As per protocol, let us all state our names and our consent to this recording. I’ll begin. I’m Elizabeth O’Leary, and I consent to this recording."

CLEM

"I’m Clement Hayes, and I consent to this recording."

SI

"I’m Simon Farelli, and I consent to this recording."

Long silence.

LIZ

"So, what happened this week?"

Ed was absent.

Behavior[]

Scissors for unknown reasons and motivations will choose a random neighborhood to "infect," acting as a plague. For the next few weeks, the neighborhood will experience abnormalities that will gradually increase over the weeks.

In the first week, there will be seen minor vandalism and rumors like windows broken by bricks, damaged fire extinguishers, etc. After around 2 weeks, attacked pets or reports of people being stalked could be seen. The next 2 weeks, pets will go missing and be found dead inside the owners homes. There will occur reports of being followed, stalked, watched and seeing someone at peoples windows and finding scratches on their windows. This will go as far as Scissors breaking inside people's homes and making noises inside. A "chosen" person will find scissors stuck at their door, which is an indication that their house is the "chosen" one. After many weeks of abnormalities, paranoia and chaos across the neighborhood, Scissors will kill the owners of the "chosen" house and move onto the next neighborhood.

Personality[]

Not much is known about Scissors' personality due to how stealthy he was throughout the events. Despite not having a clear look in his mind, we can still easily tell he is extremely evil in sadistic with the chaos he causes throughout Mayfair. Doing things that would make people upset, with some specific ones being doing graffiti of human genitals, scratching windows at night and making noises during night, shows that he does this purely to upset and unsettle people and he knows what to do to make people afraid.
