The Scorched Xenomorph, also known as the Renaissance Drone, is the titular main antagonist of the 2024 sci-fi horror film Alien: Romulus, the ninth installment of the Alien franchise. It is an individual Xenomorph that originated from the secret Romulus lab and was encountered by Rain Carradine and her team of scavengers aboard Renaissance station.

It was portrayed by Trevor Newlin, who also portrayed The Smile Entity in Smile 2.

Personality and Traits[]

As a Xenomorph, the Scorched had no higher intelligence, although it had enough to stalk its victims and defend itself when attacked. It also quickly became a strong and supportive member of the hive with the other Xenomorph drones and Facehuggers.

It did display an awareness about the concept of airlock doors, as it waited for Kay's brother and allies to open the door, so it could reach them too, but enough time past for the creature to understand that the others wouldn't open the door, thereby settled on collecting Kay for the hive that it instinctually knew was in the bowels of Romulus.

It also displayed an adaptability to environmental dangers if made aware of it, such as dodging or retreating from gunfire from a distance, navigating zero gravity, or squishing itself against the elevator shaft to avoid the impact of a plummeting elevator carriage.

Biography[]

The creature was born after a facehugger impregnated Navarro. Shortly after its birth, the Xenomorph formed a cocoon in one of the ship's walls. Before it could emerge, Bjorn used a shock baton in a failed attempt to kill it, causing the alien to squeal in pain and leaving its head scarred, later attacking the scavenger by stabbing him in the eye and pouring acid blood all over him. The Xenomorph then began to come out of its cocoon as an adult, later stalking Kay Harrison and dragging Navarro and Bjorn's corpses away presumably to feast upon later. When trying to escape, Kay was abducted by the Xenomorph and taken to the nest at the Renaissance space station.

The creature later encountered Rain Carradine when it grabbed her with its tail after she fell down a conduct due to a gravity purge amid her escape, intimidating her as a facehugger approached with the intention of impregnating Rain. This attempts were foiled when Andy Carradine arrived and killed both the Facehugger and the Xenomorph, avenging the deaths of Bjorn, Kay, Tyler and Navarro in the process.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Xenomorph Biology:
    • Super Strength: Even for its large stature, it has strength far exceeding its proportions.
    • Enhanced Durability: It was generally immune to blunt force trauma, with significant force needed to damage it. Electrical discharges could hurt it, but wouldn't cause lasting damage. Bullets could pierce its hide, but multiple shots were needed, with it being tough enough to close the distance between an attacker if not thoroughly fired upon.
      • Immunity to acid
    • Enhanced Reflexes
    • Enhanced Agility
    • Wall/Ceiling Crawling: Whether from an excreted slime or raw strength, it could propel itself across unsupported flat surfaces as fast as along the ground.
    • Corrosive Blood: Its blood holds the trait of being an acid that can eat through seemingly any material, barring Xenomorph-excreted hives and Xenomorphs themselves.
    • Acid Projectiles: It could spit an acidic version of its saliva as a corrosive weapon.
    • Prehensile Tail: It could use its tail to hang from perches, and it had a sharp tip that could pierce a target with the tail itself carrying them behind the creature or tossing them aside.
    • Instinctive Hive Unity: Even from brief contact with others of its kind, it can swiftly establish a strong sense of cooperation for the advancement of their species.
    • Tactical Adaptability: It was able to alter its attack patterns even when faced with loss or sudden return of gravity, as well as ability to navigate ventilation systems to ambush prey.
    • Nested Mouth: It had the notable fanged maws within its mouth that could be rapidly extended to pierce any flesh and most material.

Trivia[]

  • Unlike the Nostromo Drone, the Scorched's stage between Chestburster and adult was displayed, as after shedding its initial skin, it excreted mucus and bile to create a cocoon, which allowed the evolution to its final stage.
    • The Xenomorph's maturation process had been previously explored in LV-742 iteration of creatures as seen in Aliens versus Predator: Extinction. The difference is the cocoon vaguely resembled a curled fern leaf with biomechanical aesthetics as the chestburster formed it while stood upright.
  • It was the youngest of the Remus-Romulus brood, and outlived the others, being the final pure Xenomorph killed in the film.
  • Alien: Romulus and Smile 2, both of which Trevor Newlin starred in, came out in 2024.
