Hanzo Hasashi, better known as Scorpion. is an undead ninja warrior and one of the main protagonists and the mascot of the Mortal Kombat franchise. Even though he has a neutral alignment, he has done some antagonistic acts. In Mortal Kombat Armageddon, he allied with the Forces of Darkness to come closer to his enemy, Quan Chi due to having grudges against the Elder Gods "restoring" Shirai Ryu members as undeads and not fully humans. He is also the archenemy of Quan Chi.

He is currently voiced by Ron Yuan. Prior to that, he was voiced by Patrick Seitz, who has been doing the role since Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, and by one of the co-creators of the series, Ed Boon himself, since the very first Mortal Kombat game.

While he was there he was killed by Lin Kuei, a rival clan to his, ninja Sub-Zero. As a result, his entire family and clan were slaughtered by Quan Chi as a payment to Sub-Zero. Because of the fact he died his soul was sent to the Netherrealm, While in there he fought Sub-Zero again but was once again defeated, Scorpion vowed revenge on Sub-Zero.

Mortal Kombat (1992)

Two years later he was finally able to leave the Netherrealm and return to Earthrealm. He went there to participate in Shang Tsung's tournament to defeat Sub-Zero and avenge his family as well as his clan due to Quan Chi's lies he told scorpion. He was not able to make it to Sub-Zero at first but after Liu Kang defeated Goro he got his opportunity to kill Sub-Zero while he was unguarded. He did exactly that finally getting revenge in his mind So he was sent back to the Netherrealm.

Mortal Kombat II

Due to being in the Netherrealm, he was able to find out about of tournament hosted by Shao Kahn, the ruler of the Outworld. He was angered when he found out that Sub-Zero somehow returned back to life, unaware that it was actually his younger brother. So in order to finish what he started Scorpion entered Shao Khan's tournament. However, during one of Sub-Zero's battles, he witnessed him sparing his opponent's life which caused Scorpion to have some doubts about this person. He would eventually that this Sub-Zero was not his murderer but in fact his younger brother having taken up his older brother's mantle. To atone for slaying Sub-Zero's older brother he decided to dedicate himself to protecting the new Sub-Zero.

Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3

When Shao Khan invaded Earthrealm and tried to conquer Netherrealm, but failed, Scorpion was accidentally set free. He initially didn't pledge allegiance to anyone, but when Shao noticed Scorpion's amazing warrior skills he decided the recruit him to his army. The alliance didn't last very long however when Scorpion discovered that when he learned that Sub-Zero was one of Earth's Chosen warriors and therefore one of Shao Kahn's targets. So Scorpion turns on Shao Khan and helps Earthrealm defeat him, they succeed and because of that Scorpion returns back to the Netherrealm.

Mortal Kombat 4

At some point, Quan Chi was somehow able to convince that the new Sub-Zero was in some way responsible for his wife and child's death, after he was tricked into believing this he swore revenge on Sub-Zero. However, just before Scorpion was about to kill Sub-Zero Quan Chi appeared and travelled that he had decided Scorpion and that he was actually responsible for his family's death in order to get Scorpion to break his promise of protecting Sub-Zero. Quan Chi then attempted to banish scorpion to the Netherrealm, but Scorpion thinking quickly tackled Quan Chi and banished both of them to the Netherrealm.

Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance

During the many years that Scorpion and Quan Chi were in the Netherrealm Quan Chi would be tortured by Scorpion. Quan Chi seemed to have very little chance of escaping because his powers were slowly weakening while Scorpions were getting stronger (The reason for this is that they were in a different part of the realm). In order to escape Quan Chi struck a deal with Drahmin and Moloch, the two fought of Scorpion, which gave Quan Chi enough time to escape the Netherrealm through a portal, Scorpion followed him. Scorpion continued to chase Quan Chi until he found his way to Shang Tsung's palace. While he was at the palace he was ambushed by Drahmin and Moloch who had just escaped the Netherrealm Scorpion tried to fight them off but they overpowered him and threw him into the Soulnado, believing that it would eliminate the ninja once and for all.

Mortal Kombat: Deception

However, Scorpion was able to escape into the void and meet the Elder Gods. There he also witnessed Raiden's sacrifice and Onaga beginning his conquest. The Elder Gods were aware of his presence as well as the incredible skills and abilities he possessed so the made him the champion of the Elder Gods. His first mission was to destroy Onaga before he conquered all the realms. Scorpion is next seen in Konquest mode before Onaga goes to retrieve the Amulet from Quan Chi, Scorpion fights Shujinko in the name of the Elder Gods, but Shujinko won the battle. In his ending, it is said that Scorpion tracked Onaga through the realms to fight him, but it's unknown if he fought him, as it is known that Shujinko defeated naga.

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon

Later on, Scorpion's alliance with the Elder Gods had fallen apart, this was due to the fact that they promised to resurrect the Shirai Ryu clan along with his wife and son. They did resurrect them they were brought back as hellspawn versions virtually unrecognizable. Scorpion was angry at what he thought of as their betrayal, vowed revenge on the Elder Gods by removing the two things critical to their plans to prevent Armageddon - the Edenian brothers Taven and Daegon.

When Armageddon is summoned Scorpion joins the Forces of Darkness, he is seen fighting Sub-Zero. Scorpion is one of the consistent that makes it the highest, but he is also one of the many killed seen with his back pierced by Sub-Zero's Kori Blade, ending this version of Scorpion permanently.

Appearance

Scorpion has been depicted in many different ways throughout the Mortal Kombat genre, but is always portrayed in a yellow ninja outfit with black pants, belt, undershirt, a balaclava with a yellow face plate overlapping it, and occasionally two crossed swords mounted on his back.

Scorpion unmasked is known as Inferno Scorpion. This design reappears in the Challenge Tower, fighting Kano in the Netherrealm. His costumes incorporate his namesake more and more with each game, especially his latest redesign. The hilts of his swords now resemble the stingers of scorpions, while his shoulder pads and mouthpiece are also molded after scorpions.

Personality

Scorpion can best be described as the embodiment of vengeance and hatred. His vendetta against those who have wronged him is what drives pretty much all his motivations. His desire to get revenge is so huge that he will join any side good or evil for the sake of achieving his own goals but he is mostly seen serving someone of an antagonistic faction, especially Quan Chi, until he learned the truth about him.

While his ninja appearance and desire for revenge may make him seem completely villainous at first. in actuality he is not inherently evil. Scorpion is rather a morally neutral character as his own personal goals matter more to him than things like the fates of the realms and will serve any side with the singular selfish hope of achieving them, but as a result, he often ends up doing either good or evil things depending on what side he serves, which often is the evil side.

Scorpion initially had a caring and honorable side to him as well as Hanzo Hasahi, his original human side, but which gets buried and repressed time and time again due to his lust for vengeance. He dearly loved his wife and son Harumi and Satoshi and had good relations with his clan the Shirai Ryu. But once him, his clan and family was massacred by their rival clan the Lin Kuei, Hanzo was reborn as the vengeful revenant known today as Scorpion.

Powers and Abilities

When a human, he was known for his amazing, almost blinding speed and assassination skills. But when brought back as a demon, he had the ability to breath and control fire, teleport, and spawn a kunai (dubbed as "spear") tipped chain from his palm, launching it towards his opponent like a harpoon, and yank them over to his position, yelling with a signature "GET OVER HERE!" or 'COME HERE!".

Can make his skull breath fire.

He also has an extremely high level of strength, like most Mortal Kombatants, able to rip off limbs with little to no problem. He also can take a comical amount of damage, withstanding having his neck broken, organs stabbed, and eyes gouged out.

Scorpion also has the ability to teleport and can activate this ability without doing a gesture but by thinking instead, he often uses it as a surprise or ambush attack, and he can also open portals to the Netherrealm at will. Scorpion's powers also get stronger the longer he is in the Netherrealm, which proved to be extremely helpful when he was torturing Quan Chi in the Netherrealm.

In some incarnations, includes movies, Scorpion's kunai resembles skeletal snake with jaws full of sharp canines.
