Scourge was an Autobot protoform that was reprogrammed by Megatron to be the leader of the Decepticon subgroup. While scanning his alt mode, Scourge inadvertently scanned Optimus Prime as well, turning him into a dark duplicate of Prime. Scourge's cunning and ruthlessness makes him a far more dangerous opponent than Sky-Byte's Predacons.
Biography[]
Past[]
Scourge, as he would become known as, was originally the leader of a group of Autobot protoforms sent to reactivate legendary battle station Fortress Maximus. He was equipped with the ability to detect the unique energy signatures of the O-Parts, the Cybertronian components that held the key to reawakening Maximus. When the team's craft malfunctioned and crashed on Earth in the mid-20th century, the six Autobots were entombed in their crashed ship.
Becoming a Decepticon[]
In the 21st century, Scourge and the Autobots were unearthed by Megatron, after extracting the location from archeologist Dr. Onishi's mind. Stealing the six protoforms, Megatron took them to a nearby military base to scan vehicle modes for them, infusing them with a part of his own spark energy to turn them his side. The first five became the Commandos, but when Megatron targeted a tanker truck to scan as the alternate mode of the final protoform, Optimus Prime leapt into action in order to save the truck's human driver, and as a result, the tanker, Prime and the human were all scanned. With an infusion of Megatron's spark energy to complete the concoction, Scourge was born, emerging from his pod as a dark twin of Optimus Prime, who asserted his loyalty to Megatron. Appointing himself leader of the new "Decepticons", he quickly established himself as a force to be reckoned with.
Scourge led the Commandos on several attacks to engage the Autobots with, including revealing that Mega-Octane could combine with Ro-Tor, Movor, Armorhide, and Rollbar to form Ruination to combat the combined forms of the Build Team as Landfill and Team Bullet Train as Rail Racer. However, things came to head while exploring the ancient ruins under the city, where it was revealed that was where Fortress Maximus resided. It also caused some of Scourge's original orders to be restored in the process, leading to where he began planning to overthrow Megatron as leader of the Predacons and Decepticons once he had control of Fortress Maximus.
After Megatron is presumed lost when they were unable to capture the Orb of Sigma, Scourge assumes command and is able to lead the Predacons and Commandos to the location of Cerebros, the Headmaster unit of Fortress Maximus. After the first attempt to activate the massive Autobot results in it going on a rampage before Koji stopped it, Scourge uses the human bio-signature he inherited when he was created to take control of Fortress Maximus the next time it is found, but the Autobots ruin his plans when they bring thousands of children to override Scourge's control of the massive Autobot. As a result, Scourge plans to use Koji to control Fortress Maximus, but this was to prepare for when he then shows his turncoat colors and betrays Galvatron after having Koji's friend Carl take control of the giant Autobot, intending to have Fortress Maximus slay Galvatron so Scourge can take over, but a mistake on Carl's part causes Fortress Maximus to hesitate until Koji arrives and is put in danger, at which point Carl's pleas to save Koji result in Fortress Maximus responding again before releasing Carl and withdrawing again. However, this time, Cerebros is left to fall into the hands of the Autobots at long last, as Galvatron was more interested in punishing Scourge and the Commandos for their treason, stunning Scourge before asking Sky-Byte to bring him back to the Megastar so Galvatron can punish him there.
Scourge and the Commandos are then painfully made subservient to Galvatron again once he adjusts his spark's energy in them to remove any trace of their free will and attempts to overthrow him again, before placing them under Sky-Byte's command to find the Autobot HQ, attack it, and get Cerebros back. Unfortunately, Optimus Prime is ready for the assault and flees with Cerebros while sending out an unsecured mayday call, forcing Scourge and the Commandos to pursue him with the Predacons, but when they corner him, Optimus reveals that the entire Autobot force is there to face Ruination, Scourge, Sky-Byte, and the Predacon Trio, from the Autobot Brothers, to the Spy Changers, Team Bullet Train, the Build Team, Skid-Z, and Tow-Line. However, Galvatron summons the Megastar, and has the Autobots on the ropes until Wedge's courage enables Cerebros to bring Fortress Maximus into the fight to face the Megastar while Scourge is overpowered by the other Autobots, including Omega Prime, Optimus and his brother Ultra Magnus' combined form. Nevertheless, Galvatron drains Fortress Maximus of his energy and then enslaves Koji and the children of the world, threatening them unless the Autobots surrender. When they attempt to escape via the Global Space Bridge, Scourge and the Commandos follow, even when Galvatron decides to flood the tunnel with magma to kill the Autobots, even if it meant the end of the Decepticons as well.
In the end, Omega Prime defeats Galvatron, and Fortress Maximus and Ultra Magnus see to taking Galvatron, Scourge, the Commandos, and the Predacon Trio back to Cybertron to be incarcerated.
Trivia[]
- The toy release of Scourge is a repaint of the Generation 2 Laser Optimus Prime figure from 1995, with its electronics removed. After the end of Robots in Disguise's airing, subsequent toys of him are repaints of later releases of Optimus' aforementioned form.
- While he uses the name Scourge, he is very much the template of Nemesis Prime, the evil clone of Optimus Prime who went on to become a recurring figure in the transformers franchise's other cotinuties.. This is also prevalent in the original Japanese release of Transformers Armada, where he is named Scourge.
