Scowl the Owl and Batso the Bat are secondary antagonists in the 1989 animated fantasy film Happily Ever After. They are former minions of the cruel enchanter, Lord Maliss, but redeem themselves after Maliss’ death.

Scowl was voiced by the late Ed Asner and Batso was voiced by Frank Welker.

Biography[]

As minions of the evil enchanter, Lord Maliss, Scowl, and Batso do what they can to please him by carrying out his evil acts for him, but always failed. As the last straw, Maliss goes in search of Scowl and Batso to prevent them from foiling his next scheme. When Maliss leaves the two behind to find his step niece, Snow White, Scowl and Batso escape and to prevent the Dwarfelles from entering Maliss' castle, but are foiled.

Later in the film, after their master’s sudden death, the two are seen soon to become Mother Nature's pets, thus having a change of heart.
