Scratch is one of the main antagonists in the web animated series, Monkey Wrench, as one of the main antagonists in the episode "Ghost Egg" and a major supporting character in the episode "Us & Them".
He is voiced by Chris Zito.
Personality[]
Scratch is shown to be extremely greedy as he often torment Shrike over debts he force the merc into by scamming him, and he even attempts to back out of paying back deals that he owes. He is shown to care for his brother, Scritch.
Biography[]
Past[]
Sometime ago, Scratch and Shrike knew each other with Scratch making Shrike a business deal. The deal allowed Shrike to initiate Monkey Wrench and claim ownership of the Bucket. However, it was ultimately a scam as the Bucket was actually not in the best condition, and that condition only got worse over time. To make matters worse, Scratch won't leave Shrike alone about the debt he put the merc in.
Ghost Egg[]
After the Monkey Wrench duo take sign up to act as bodyguards for a guy named Nobert who has a ten million pixel bounty, Scratch corners them in lightspeed, expressing shock over Shrike honoring the contract rather than take advantage of the bounty, which Shrike states to have been a decision made by Beebs. Scratch pretends to feel betrayed, but Shrike isn't fooled and only demands for Scratch to leave.
Scratch then orders Shrike to hand Nobert over to pay off his debt, but Shrike refuses and tells him that he owes nothing. In response, Scratch threatens to have Scritch blow up the Bucket to claim Nobert. Shrike then seems to relent and asks for Scratch's coordinates. The moment Scratch complies, Shrike opens fire himself and knocks the cats off their tail for the time being. His attack combined with an earlier attack from Queen Tyneen causes the Merc duo to be on high alert.
Eventually, Scratch and Scritch catch up to the duo along with Tyneen's Crew who all demand Nobert's head, resulting in a fight between all three sides. As the ensuing brawl wears them down, they are all bound by the legendary assassin Kara who grabs Nobert to claim his bounty for herself. By the time Scratch breaks free, the ordeal is all over with Kara having claimed the bounty, much to Scratch's disappointment.
Us & Them[]
When hunting for rare items of value on board a Terran ship, Scratch has a run in with some mushroom people known as the Agari who try to communicate with them. Scratch, viewing their communication as a threat, attempts to fire a warning shot to scare them away, only to shoot a rocket that blows one of them up, resulting in them becoming hostile.
As the Agari begins to trash their ship Scratch and Scritch send out a distress call which gets picked up by Shrike. Not wanting to beg Shrike of all people for help, Scratch attempts to back out, but ends up begging anyway. However, Shrike makes it clear he isn't going to help without some form of payment and has the discussion before saving them due to knowing how Scratch works, and Scratch is forced to promise waiving Shrike's debts in the form of a verbal contract.
After getting away from the Agari, Scratch and Scritch are brought aboard the Bucket as Scratch orders Shrike to bring his ship to an ink station for repairs, which end up being an extremely high cost due to how much damage his ship took. When Shrike finds out that Scratch has some Terran items though, Scratch attempts to exploit this by ordering Scratch to bring him and Scritch some drinks within a certain amount of time, only to speed up that time when Shrike arrives to ensure he doesn't have to deliver. This results in a fight between the two of them which causes an Agari stuck to one of Scratch's items to be corrupted by a package the mercs are transporting.
Beebs, having found out that Scratch was responsible for the Agari attack, forces the cat to come clean and tell them the truth. After a near death experience which result's in the Agari known as Us almost giving their life, Scratch is then force to apologize for the death of Us's friend.
Afterward, Shrike demands Scratch to honor their deal. In an attempt to get out of it, Scratch destroys the evidence he had of the deal. However, Beebs proves to be on top of it as he reveals to have recorded the deal himself and tells Scratch to honor the contract if he doesn't want to lose his spot on the leaderboard. Forced to pay up, Scratch only states that the deal never specified which debts he had to clear, indicating that he would still be coming after Shrike.
