~ Scylla devouring 6 of Odysseus' men, revealing her true sadistic nature |
Scylla is a minor antagonist of the 2022-2024 musical/concept album, EPIC: The Musical, by Jorge Rivera-Herrans that serves as an adaptation of Homer's The Odyssey. She is a 6-headed sea-monster who lives in her own lair and is apparently so dangerous that even Poseidon himself wouldn't go there.
She was voiced by KJ Burkhauser.
Biography[]
After having enraged Poseidon, Odysseus is desperate to find a way back to Ithaca where Poseidon won't chase after him. After interrogating a siren disguised as his wife, Penelope, Odysseus hesitantly takes the path of Scylla's lair.
In the song named after her, Scylla is introduced, appearing as an attractive woman. Odysseus tricks 6 of his men into holding torches, the light attracting Scylla to them, where she reveals her true form and eats the 6, letting the remaining 37 men go. At the end of the song, Odysseus remarks that he and Scylla aren't that different, as they both seek to survive at the cost of others' lives.
Appearance[]
Scylla appears as a monstrosity with a feminine human body, contained within a giant decaying head. She also has 6 heads, one of which being humanoid, and the rest being a series of 4-eyed serpents.
Trivia[]
- Scylla's logic that she and Odysseus are both merely trying to survive is heavily flawed, seeing as Scylla takes sadistic glee in slaughtering the latter's crew, meanwhile Odysseus only commits heinous actions in order to get back home, something he clearly takes displeasure in having to resort to.
- According to the creator, Jorge Rivera-Herrans, Scylla was transformed into a monster by Circe.
