~ Seamstress' comment on Ivy and Sprig, which reveals her desire for skinning, and also her famous quote. |
The Seamstress is the main antagonist of the in-universe story "Skin Deep" from Amphibia. She is a glass frog who, in order to hide her appearance, began killing and skinning frogs to make her suit.
She was voiced by Matt Braly.
Appearance[]
“ | Sprig: (gasping) She's a glass frog. I've heard of this species. They're born with translucent bodies. | „ |
~ Sprig commenting on Seamstress' true appearance. |
Seamstress is a glass frog, taller than other Amphibians, with pinkish sclera and translucent skin and muscle, making her internal organs visible.
To hide her real appearance, she uses frog skins to make a macabre suit.
Personality[]
“ | Ivy: (gasping) Sprig! I know why she steals other frogs' skins. Sprig: What? Why? I don't follow. Ivy: Because she's not comfortable in her own skin. |

~ Ivy telling Sprig the true reason behind Seamstress' actions. |
The Seamstress is an enigmatic yet ruthless frog who brutally murders anyone who enters her home and wears their skin. She's clearly been doing this for a long time and has no issues with doing it to anyone, including children.
However, her reason for stealing the skins of others is that she's insecure about her true form, giving her a more sympathetic motive.
Biography[]
“ | Ivy: We gotta be careful. We're getting pretty close to the home of... (in disorted voice) the Seamstress! Sprig: (nervously) The Seamstress? Ivy: Yep! Legend says she's a horrible creature who sucks the life of any frog that tresspasses on her property, then steals their skin to wear as clothes. Sprig: What? Why? Ivy: Nobody knows. Ah, but that's just an old fly's tale. |

~ Ivy to Sprig about the Seamstress |
Seamstress' origins - besides that she was born a glass frog - are unknown. She isolated herself in the woods in her cottage and began killing trespassers and using their skin to make her macabre suit to hide herself.
She continued until she met Sprig and Ivy, two young Amphibians who came to her home looking for the ball after Ivy accidently threw it away. By the time they realized they were in the wrong place, it was too late as Seamstress returned home. The kids then fought for dear life and during the struggle, Sprig unintentionally tore off her mask, revealing villainess' true appearance.
Sprig then comments on her appearance, revealing her as a glass frog, and Ivy reveals the Seamstress' motive, as she didn't feel comfortable in her skin, thus making her insecure. She then briefly empathizes with her before covering her face in her beanie, and with Sprig's help, setting her house on fire, thus ending her terror.
