If you'd like, I could rub (your hands) for you. Nothing heats up a body like friction.
~ Sean to Chloe Sullivan, Cool

Sean Kelvin, also known as The Heatsucking Horndog, was a psychotic metahuman with the ability to absorb heat from other bodies or objects to keep himself warm and projected ice energy from his body.

He was the main antagonist in the First season of the WB series Smallville episode "Cool".

He was portrayed by Michael Coristine.

Season One[]

Sean was always known to play with affections of teenage girls, and he made a move on Chloe Sullivan at a party. She gave him her number just so he'd leave her alone. While playing football on a frozen lake at a bonfire, he fell into the icy water infested with meteor rocks and got trapped within it. The high Kryptonite content in the water kept him alive but cursed him with the need to continuously absorb heat to avoid freezing.

He discovered that body heat worked better than sources like fire. He manages to free himself, but his skin was cold and turned blue. Warming his hands at a small fire, he absorbed the heat out of the fire and warms himself while freezing the fire. Sean tried to warm himself with matches but his power always caused the flame to freeze and fade. At the school nurse's office, Sean realizes that by stealing the body heat of others, he stayed warm for at least a day, trading the survival of others for his own.

Sean paid a visit to his girlfriend, Jenna Barnum, but he was in bad shape by now. His skin was blue and his hair was full of frost. Jenna is terrified and Sean apologizes, but his desire for warmth overwhelms him. He embraces Jenna and kisses her, stealing her body heat while she was taking a shower. Sean is restored, but Jenna is blue and frozen solid. When Sean releases her, she falls and shatters into pieces, as her body turned into ice.

Sean Kelvin cold

In order to stay warm, Sean had to take the body heat from others.

He then set his sights on Chloe. At the school, Sean apologizes again and explains that he can't get warm, sitting by the fire only gives him a quick fix, body heat lasts longer. As he approaches Chloe, she fell into the water. She tried to swim away, but Sean absorbed all the heat out of the pool and it freezes Chloe's leg just as she's climbing out. Clark arrives to free Chloe and knocked Sean across the room. Clark sends Chloe away, and turns to face Sean, but he's gone.

Later, Sean caused a car crash and tried to go after Lana, but was again stopped by Clark. By absorbing Clark's heat, he is strengthened, but Clark manages to survive it. But by the time he gets to the mansion, he's blue again and pulls the heat from the generator.

Clark recovers just as Martha Kent leaves the mansion to check on the generator. Clark approaches Sean as he tried to attack Martha. As they battle, Sean steals enough heat from Clark to get warm again. Sean managed to freeze Clark, but Clark recovered quickly and tossed him into a pond where his powers went out of control and trapped him in ice. As he tried to drain the heat from other people, Clark manages to hurl him into a nearby pond. Sean, unable to control his power, sucks the heat from the water around him, encasing himself in ice and freezing the lake.

Chloe Chronicles[]

Chloe and Pete Ross discovered a secret underground laboratory built by Dr. Donovan Jamison, Dr. Steven Hamilton, and Dr. Arthur Walsh. The doctors were mining and using Kryptonite to try and find a cure for meteor freaks. They had the bodies of several meteor-infected, including Tina Greer, Greg Arkin as a bug, and the frozen body of Sean Kelvin. Sean was barely alive, encased in a block of ice.

Chloe and Pete caused an explosion. As they left the ruined lab, they saw Sean's block of ice starting to melt as they climbed out to safety. His current whereabouts are unknown, but it is unknown if he is alive, however, due to the heat of the fire caused by the explosion, it can be assumed he survived. It is unknown whether he survived the explosion.

Trivia[]

  • Degrees Kelvin is sometimes used to describe very cold temperatures. Sean's last name is a reference to the power he gained.
  • Sean's power is somewhat involuntary, as he automatically absorbed all the heat as soon as Clark hurled him into the pond.
