~ Sean MacGuire to Arthur Morgan. |
Sean MacGuire is a supporting character in the 2018 video game Red Dead Redemption II and its spin off 2019 multiplayer Red Dead Online, He is a reckless and cheerful Irish-American bandit, as well as gunman for the Van der Linde gang.
He was voiced by Michael Mellamphy.
Biography[]
Born in Donegal, young Sean MacGuire fled with his father Darragh, who was killed shortly after. In North Elizabeth, Sean met Dutch van der Linde and Hosea Matthews and attempted to rob and kill them, but found out that they emptied his gun of bullets beforehand. The two men decided to recruit Sean into their gang.
In 1899, Sean participated in the gang's failed ferryboat robbery in Blackwater and was arrested shortly after. Weeks later, as bounty hunters were transporting him to a federal prison, he was rescued by Arthur Morgan, Javier Escuella and Charles Smith. Upon returning to camp, Sean drunkenly and playfully insults them and the gang celebrates his return with drink, dance and song. He rekindles his romance with Karen Jones and the two make love in John Marston's tent.
Sean later tags along for a train robbery with Arthur, John and Charles, where he is overpowered and almost killed by a guard. It ends with them chased on horseback. The gang is forced to relocate shortly after and moves to Clemens Point, near the town of Rhodes. There, Dutch and Hosea take jobs from the rivalling Braithwaites and Gray families against each other.
Sean helps Arthur burn down the Gray family's tobacco fields after meeting with the Braithwaites. Convincing Arthur to hide in a wagon, Sean befriends a guard named Hamish, but either he or Arthur kills him and hide out until dark. They then torch the tobacco fields with fire bottles, raid a payroll wagon and steal its horses.
Later, Arthur, Sean, Bill Williamson and Micah Bell are seemingly hired by the Grays for security work. As they prepare to meet Sheriff Leigh Gray, it's revealed that the Grays discovered their deception and a sniper shoots Sean in the head, killing him instantly.
After a hectic gunfight, Bill takes Sean's body to bury.
Personality[]
Sean is a friendly, cheerful man who enjoys socializing with his colleagues. He often likes to tease them, calling Susan Grimshaw an "old crone" and mocking John about his scars. Despite this, he’s loyal to the gang and loves his colleagues and the gang loves him back.
Despite his friendly and easygoing demeanour, he is violent and ruthless toward his enemies, though not as much as Micah. He would murder a guard who he befriended over their backgrounds and enthusiastically participate in a train robbery.
