Biography[]
Early Life[]
At a young age, McClane developed an aptitude for computers. McClane also served in the military and was honorably discharged. McClane then managed to get a job as a systems analyst for the Central Intelligence Agency. However, McClane's family started to fall apart with his sister's medical school loans being incorrectly coded and hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt repayment disappeared overnight. McClane's sister was then told that she was going to have to repay the debt from scratch.
Unable to pay the debt, McClane's sister committed suicide. Because McClane's parents cosigned the loan, the debt was passed onto them. McClane then hacked into the banking systems computer and erased his sister's debt along with the student loans of dozens that he never met before. McClane then became known as a folk hero in the hacking community. McClane then resigned from his job at the CIA and created a decentralised hacktivist collective called Crnobog, with his friend Rogin Moon.
In 2016, McClane and Moon hacked the federal reserve and inadvertently locked a janitor inside a gold vault. The janitor then suffocated to death after being locked in the gold vault for too long. McClane and Moon were then arrested for the janitor's murder. Moon managed to make a deal with the police and walk on the murder charge while McClane was serving a five-year bid with a 30-year fed sentence awaiting.
Organized Crime[]
With assistance from gangster Richard Wheatley and his ex-wife Angela, McClane and several other prisoners managed to escape from a maximum-security prison. After McClane's escape, McClane went under the radar while the police were searching for him. McClane even damaged his own face to avoid being recognised by the police. While going under the radar, Wheatley and Angela sent Gareth to search for McClane and bring him to meet them for dinner. McClane was taken by Gareth with a bag over his head to meet with Wheatley and Angela for dinner, where Wheatley announced that McClane was now the most wanted man in America.
While staying with Wheatley, McClane planned to make amends to the family of the janitor that he murdered, Luthor Jones, rather than assisting Wheatley in his crimes. McClane managed to convert a few thousand dollars in cash to cryptocurrency where he opened up a crypto account for Jones' daughter, Kesha, so that she could attend college. McClane then called the police to let them know about his plan which was that he would make amends with Jones' family and then surrender to the police. The police then surveilled McClane as he met with Jones' wife and his daughter. Jones' wife, Sherry, was unhappy to see McClane due to the pain that he caused to them. McClane then gave Sherry the check and told her about the account he opened up for Kesha.
McClane then left the family home and surrendered to the police, where he was taken into custody by FBI agents. However, another team of FBI agents arrived to arrest McClane, which led the NYPD's Organized Crime Control Bureau to believe that McClane had been abducted. McClane then realised that he wasn't in the FBI van, but that he was being kidnapped by Wheatley's bodyguards. Wheatley's bodyguard, Gareth, then poisoned McClane until he fell asleep. Gareth then delivered McClane's unconscious body to Angela. When McClane woke up, McClane and Angela exchanged a few words about Wheatley. Angela then managed to convince McClane to assist Wheatley in his crimes.
McClane then agreed to meet with Wheatley and took Angela's car. When the police arrived at Angela's home, Angela lied to the police and accused McClane of stealing her car to meet with Wheatley. Detective Elliot Stabler and Sergeant Ayanna Bell then chased after McClane to an abandoned building. McClane then met with Wheatley to escape from the police, which was witnessed by Stabler. McClane and Wheatley then managed to escape from the cops in a helicopter. McClane was then taken to Wheatley's place where he continued to assist Wheatley in his crimes. However, McClane also witnessed Wheatley's abuse towards Angela and called out Wheatley on the abuse. McClane then confronted Wheatley and told him that he wanted Wheatley to put him out of his misery.
The next day, McClane went to meet with another hacker in her apartment for resources. However, McClane ended up being poisoned by the food that the hacker gave him and collapsed on the floor of her apartment. Wheatley then arrived and picked up McClane's unconscious body. Wheatley then brought McClane to the warehouse where he tied up McClane and held him hostage along with Angela. Wheatley then managed to convince McClane to gather his followers as a part of his next plan in getting revenge on New York City. After McClane gathered his followers, Angela revealed to McClane that she was working with Wheatley to manipulate him; they then left McClane to die, chained up to a device which set off a bomb. McClane was discovered unconscious by Stabler and Bell, who took him into custody.
After Wheatley caused a blackout and held New York City hostage, McClane was called in by Detectives Victoria Cho and Carlos Maldonado to assist Detective Jet Slootmaekers and hacktivist Adam 'Malachi' Mintock in saving the city from Wheatley. McClane then gave Slootmaekers and Mintock direct orders over the phone while they went out into the field to try and stop the blackout. Eventually, Slootmaekers and Mintock managed to turn the power back on, and McClane was arrested and taken back to prison.
