“ | People don't want honesty. They wanna be told that everything's gonna be A-Okay so they can go about ignoring the goddamn mess this world really is. (...) Please. The Commonwealth is built on buying into bullshit. The desperate need to believe that the All-American dream is still real. Ya know, anything -- anything is possible, we can rise above our stations. It's a fricking joke. The reality is that the poor stay poor so that the rich can do whatever the hell we want. The game is rigged. There are no bootstraps to pull up. Christ, my mom handpicks the lottery winners! And none of it matters. And nothing will ever change, but those people that you think want honesty? Yeah, they're just too stupid to see it. It's pathetic. | „ |
~ Sebastian's true view on the Commonwealth in the TV Series. |
Sebastian Milton is a major antagonist of AMC's The Walking Dead, TV Series.
A spoiled and entitled narcissist, he was the son of Commonwealth Governor Pamela Milton who frequently uses his highly-positioned status to get away with considerably inappropriate behavior and appalling misdeeds in general.
He is portrayed by Teo Rapp-Olsson.
Synopsis[]
Arrival of the Coalition[]
Sebastian takes his girlfriend Kayla Brand on a date near where Eugene's group is clearing houses of walkers as punishment for breaking the law. The two become so engrossed in their lovemaking that they fail to notice a herd approaching. Eugene saves Sebastian and Kayla with help from Shira, but Sebastian is extremely ungrateful, more concerned about his date being ruined than the fact that he nearly died. As Sebastian argues with Eugene, another walker gets too close, and Shira accidentally splashes Kayla with its blood while putting it down. Sebastian angrily berates and insults Shira, causing Eugene to punch him in the face. Lance Hornsby is shocked by Eugene's actions, asking if he knows who Sebastian is, before Eugene is arrested for assaulting Governor Pamela Milton's son.
Following the merge of the Coalition into the Commonwealth, Sebastian continues his antagonistic behavior, putting him at odds with Daryl Dixon. During his "advanced military training," Sebastian expresses disgust with the Coalition's weapons before putting down a walker. However, Daryl has to save Sebastian from a second walker with his crossbow which he is ungrateful for. General Michael Mercer, who treats Sebastian with barely concealed disgust, suggests that Daryl should work on improving his relationship with Sebastian in order to guarantee himself a better life in the Commonwealth.
After the altercation at Pamela's masquerade ball, Daryl turns Tyler Davis over to Sebastian and lets him claim credit for the capture.
The Heist[]
After his mother cuts off his line of credit, Sebastian becomes desperate to find more money to support his way of life. As such, Sebastian plans a heist of his old friend Cooper's house which is surrounded by a massive herd. With the support of two soldiers named Alves and Castle, Sebastian convinces desperate people to undertake the heist for him by promising them a cut of the money, including April Martens. However, none of them ever return, all dying in the heist.
Desperate to get the money, Sebastian blackmails Daryl Dixon and Rosita Espinosa into going by threatening their kids. Covering themselves in walker guts, Daryl and Rosita make it through the herd and rescue the trapped April, learning about the other people that Sebastian had sent in the process. The three are joined by Carol Peletier and General Michael Mercer who help them pull the heist off, but April is killed in the escape. In the aftermath, Alves and Castle reveal that 30 to 40 innocent people died in the heist due to Sebastian's greed. A disgusted Mercer executes the two soldiers for their actions, but he admits that Daryl and Rosita have no choice but to give Sebastian his money. Pleased with the success of his heist and showing a callous disregard for the lives that were lost in the process, Sebastian gives Daryl a small cut of the money and gleefully departs.
Subsequently, Carol learns that Hornsby knew of Sebastian's actions and is merely relieved to know that no one else will die in the suicide mission. April's name is found on a list of hundreds of people that are later revealed to have been sent to Pamela's forced labor camps, suggesting that Lance had hidden Sebastian's crime by hiding the people that he got killed amongst the names of those that were made to disappear.
Seeking to change the corrupt system of government that the Commonwealth is run on, the Coalition residents of the Commonwealth have Connie publish an article exposing Sebastian's heist and the people that he got killed as a result of it. The people of the Commonwealth riot, demanding justice from Sebastian who goes into hiding. With Lance attacking their people, Carol and Negan track down Sebastian and convince him to hear out Carol's plan of a way out of the situation for everyone. In exchange for Pamela reigning Lance in and the Coalition getting their communities back, Carol has Pamela pin Sebastian's crimes on Lance, allowing him to get away with everything.
Exposure and Death[]
As the Coalition and the Commonwealth prepare to go their separate ways, a number of people want to stay and try to save the Commonwealth from the Miltons. Disgusted with Sebastian getting away with his crimes, Eugene and Max Mercer visit the imprisoned Hornsby who suggests that they need to burn the whole system down in order to stop the Miltons. Pamela plans to have Sebastian read a prepared speech in order to regain the trust of the people of the Commonwealth, much to his anger as Sebastian believes that he should be eventually ruling simply by right as a Milton. Taking advantage of this, Max confronts Sebastian who reveals that his older brother was originally supposed to be Pamela's heir, not him, but his brother died, leaving Pamela with no other choice. Max tricks Sebastian into revealing his true entitled view of the Commonwealth and its residents, secretly recording his speech. Before leaving, Max suggests to Sebastian that he chooses to be a spoiled asshole because if everyone else expects it, who's left to disappoint.
Later, Sebastian attends a Founders' Day celebration and enjoys the wrestling show. Preparing to give his speech, Sebastian suddenly changes gears and acknowledges that he knows that people don't like him and that he probably deserves that, but he wants to earn their trust and live up to his legacy, apparently showing genuine remorse for his actions. Alternatively, Sebastian may simply be making a political move by discarding his script and supposedly speaking from the heart in order to gain people's trust. On Max's signal, Eugene plays Sebastian's recorded speech for everyone to hear, causing everyone to turn against Sebastian. Realizing what Max did, Sebastian begins chasing her through the crowd in a blind rage.
At the same time, the imprisoned Lance has his two henchmen murder ten Commonwealth janitors and let them reanimate in order to prove a point to Pamela. As Sebastian chases after Max, the walkers attack the crowd, killing several people as Daryl, Mercer and Judith Grimes work to put them all down. Catching up with Max, Sebastian shoves her into the arms of one of the walkers in revenge and gleefully watches as it tries to devour her. However, Eugene shoves the walker off of Max and it lands on Sebastian instead. Struggling with the walker, Sebastian begs for help from the surrounding crowd who watch, but don't lift a finger to help Sebastian due to how many people hate him for his actions. The walker bites Sebastian twice in the neck before Judith finally puts it down. Sebastian chokes on his own blood and dies moments later as his entitled speech continues to play on a loop in the background.
Zombified[]
After her son's death, Pamela refuses to allow him to be put down and spends time with his corpse in the morgue, apologizing for their strained relationship. Sebastian eventually reanimates and Pamela has him chained up and taken to Hornsby's cell along with the corpse of Roman Calhoun, one of the two people that incited the massacre that Sebastian died in. Providing a horrified Lance with a machete, Pamela orders him to cut up the corpse and feed her son with it.
Later, Daryl and Carol arrive looking for Lance's help to find their missing friends and are shocked to find a traumatized Lance in a corner muttering to himself while the zombified Sebastian lays in the dismembered remains of Roman's corpse. Drawing one of his knives, Daryl stabs Sebastian in the head, putting him down.
When Pamela arrives in Lance's cell following his escape with Daryl and Carol, she discovers that Lance has smashed open Sebastian's head and left behind his lucky coin in Sebastian's spilled brains as a calling card for Pamela.
Legacy[]
Following Sebastian's death, Pamela enacts a crackdown upon the residents of the Coalition that are living in the Commonwealth, making them disappear and sending them off to her secret forced labor camps. She also has Eugene hunted for Sebastian's murder, but offers to pardon Max if she turns on Eugene. Eugene eventually turns himself in in order to protect Max, but claims that he had acted alone with the tape.
Pamela puts Eugene on trial for Sebastian's murder and work to force Eugene's friend Yumiko to be the prosecutor in an attempt to make the obviously rigged trial look legitimate. Instead, Yumiko publicly announces that Eugene is being unfairly persecuted by the Commonwealth and that she will be his defense attorney. At trial, Yumiko uses the chance to reach out to the lower classes of the Commonwealth, even going so far as questioning Pamela on the stand about Sebastian's claims on the tape. Pamela tries to claim that the tape was faked by Eugene in order to discredit her and Sebastian, but no one believes her, leading to protests demanding Eugene's release. Eugene is ultimately found guilty of first-degree murder in Sebastian's death and sentenced to execution. However, General Mercer and some of his men break Eugene out of prison instead.

Trivia[]
- Although not explicitly stated, Sebastian's heist may have occurred over the course of months as a flashback reveals that Pamela had cut off her son's credit around the time of his altercation with Eugene which is six months before he forced Daryl and Rosita to help him out.
