I want to be William's one and only hero.
~ Sebastian declaring his loyalty to William

Sebastian Moran is a major character in the 2016 manga series Moriarty the Patriot and its 2021 anime adaptation. He used to be an Afghan War veteran who was believed to be dead by the public. Since then he became one of William James Moriarty's chief enforcers and the sixth agent of MI6.

He was voiced by Satoshi Hino in Japanese and by Christopher Wehkamp in the English Dub.

Personality[]

On the surface, Sebastian seems like a really lazy man who seems easily intimidated by friends and allies as seen when it came to the matter of James Bond coming in to Moriarty Manor's changing room or being scared of Louis. However, for all this seemingly silly exterior that Moran has, he is perhaps one of the most dangerously competent of all William's enforcers, in which he is extremely skilled in marksmanship as well as deception, as well as one one of its most loyal members One thing that is very clear is that Sebastian is a truly loyal minion to William, having nothing but gratitude for giving him a new purpose in life when he was written off as dead, Sebastian lives only to serve William and has gone rogue upon William's supposed death to see his vision over Britain realized. He also serves as the big Brother among all of William's minions, best demonstrated when he gets Louis and Fred to stop arguing during the hunt for Charles Baskerville or encouraging James Bond to use his intuition, being nothing but appreciative when he takes his advice to be a valuable member of the team.

A reason Sebastian mostly hides what he truly is capable under the guise of an easily intimidated and lazy load is because he had been dealing with the trauma over the loss of his squad, who he treated like members over his family. Clearly bitter over seeing them all die in front of him, which is why he was so loyal to William. However, Sebastian managed to deal with his inner demons of his pasts and places William's vision and Britain's safety over his own personal revenge when dealing with Duke Dunderdale and Daryl, the 2 people responsible for his squad's death, which reignited the spark within Sebastian.

Appearance[]

Sebastian Moran is a man of a tall height of 6'6" (198cm), with narrow and darkly eyes, and black hair which is styled on a fringe that covers parts of his left eye. His physique is very muscular with multiple scars present on his bodies. After losing his right hand in the Afghan War, Sebastian wears a prosthetic made by Von Herder. He dons a long black coat, and underneath a grey shirt with shoulder holsters with a white glove to cover his prosthetic right arm.

Biography[]

Sebastian Moran was born to the aristocratic Moran family. Having grown bored of the upper class lifestyle, after university, Sebastian joined the British Army. Becoming the Commanding Officer for a squad in the British-Afghan War, Sebastian became closer to his fellow soldiers than he did with his family, however, the group was eventually attacked to which Sebastian watched the rest of his squad die in front of him and was legally pronounced dead. Knowing that this happened due to a traitor, Sebastian returned to London bidding his time to amass power to get his revenge. He eventually finds William, and was intrigued b his vision for Britain's future and gladly subscribed to it

When William was stationed at the town of Durham to be the Professor of Mathematics in its university, Sebastian was called in to find information to one of his students, Lucien Gray, by charming the ladies in a brothel he used to go to. Finding out about his relationship with a girl named Frida and finding him held captive in an opium den, William sets up a trap for Frida's murderer, Dudley Bale, to which Moran secretly stations himself on top of a building to shoot in front of him to drive Dudley into unwittingly falling to his watery grave. Eventually, Sebastian infiltrates the Noahtic to help William's plan to take down Lord Blitz Enders, secretly retrieving Thomas Michaelson's corpse who was slain by Lord Enders after he was tossed overboard, and upon Fred Porlock luring him backstage, Sebastian pulls the lever to expose him trying to stab Thomas to make sure and expose his evil to the world.

Eventually, when Fred is informed about the deplorable child hunts organized by Charles Baskerville on the now deceased Enders' human hunting grounds, Sebastian joins the charge to infiltrate the hunt and hunt down the corrupt nobles one by one and save all the kids. When William gets separated from the rest of the team, causing Louis and James to argue, Sebastian steps in to have them stop arguing and keep the united to take down the aristocrats. Sebastian personally meets with a pedophilic torturer who upon noticing him tying a naked boy up to whip him to death, Sebastian voices his disgust and bests the man, to which the cowering man reveals himself to be one of Sebastian's classmates in university and tries to get to his good graces. However, Sebastian has none of it and executes him without mercy.

Eventually being recruited by Albert James Moriarty to be 006, the 6th agent in his secret MI6 organization, Sebastian was called in for a case William feels will reignite the old spark in Sebastian. Upon information on Lieutenant Gillian Harris' died upon finding out an entire shipment of supposed Russian guns were actually made in Britain and gets shot up over it, Sebastian and his partner, 005 or Miss Moneypenny, infiltrate one of the warehouses used to illegally store these guns, to which both Moneypenny and Sebastian realize this was a scheme to prevent the British-Afghan war from ending and prolong it as much as they can, to which Sebastian deduces the true mastermind of this operation, the Governor-General of India, Duke Graham Dunderdale, upon uncovering logs of charities that the Duke has made to Afghan villages that have suffered from the war.

Infiltrating Duke Dunderdale's party under the alias of Alec Trevalyn, Miss Moneypenny poses as his clumsy wife that spills wine on both Sebastian and the Duke. Using this to get the Duke to an empty room, Sebastian reveals himself and nearly shoots him, until Miss Moneypenny is revealed to have been caught by a former member of Sebastian's squad, Daryl, who was the traitor that organized their squad's death. Shocked by the revelation, Sebastian still persists as he uses his gun to shoot Miss Moneypenny to join Daryl and Duke Dunderdale. As they go far from the Manor while they set up a gas leak to cause a huge fire that will kill everyone and restart the war, Sebastian then asks Daryl how he felt in betraying the squad. Upon Daryl expressing his lack of remorse, Sebastian reveals he was never at their side at all, and he faked miss Moneypenny's death firing a paint-filled blank at her so that she can evacuate the Manor and save everyone, and even goads Daryl into embarrassing himself by shooting Sebastian with a paint-filled blank. Calling Daryl and the Duke for being nothing more than lunatics who just want to play God, Sebastian has Daryl and Duke Dunderdale covertly murdered, with Daryl's corpse nowhere to be found and Duke Dunderdale just being burnt to death with no trace of foul play left behind. His soul reignited, Sebastian continues to serve William.

Eventually tasked to be the mentor of Irene Adler, who had changed her identity to be that of James Bond, upon a bank robbery occurring while sent to retrieved a box of daggers from William's safe in the bank, Sebastian inspires James to take initiative and put an end to the robbery and credit it all to the bank's guards with none the wiser, impressing Sebastian. Upon the team being called in to deal with the Whitechapel murders, while William's butler, Jack Reinfield, poses as a decoy for Jack the Ripper, Sebastian and James secretly follow him from the rooftops and use their sniping skills to disarm all Scotland Yard officials and the armed peasants to clear the way for Jack. When Scotland Yard brings out a gatling gun, James throws a coin, to which Sebastian realizes what he was planning and accurately shoots it in such a way the bullet is deflected into the gatling gun's barrel and destroy it. Eventually upon the dawn of the 'Final Problem', Sebastian helped MI6 in setting fire across numerous abandoned buildings across London to set a huge fire to unite the lower and upper classes, watching from afar when William and Sherlock's grand confrontation begins.

Upon witnessing the presumed deaths of William and Sherlock, with no other purpose in life, Sebastian went rogue to become a vigilante of his own during the 3 year time-skip with no one being able to track him down as he takes William's place. Upon uncovering a conspiracy that went all the way up to the British Ambassador to France, Lord Balmoral that would spark a war between Britain and France, Sebastian covertly assassinates one of the traitors in his hotel room before vanishing without a trace. Upon a grand party being held for Lord Balmoral to deceive the French Ambassador to Britain into not signing the agreement, Sebastian secretly stations himself to assassinate Balmoral, nearly succeeding until Sherlock Holmes made his surprise entrance to the party. Still unfettered to his task, Sebastian fights Louis and was taken down by Sherlock, who reveals to Sebastian that William is alive. Now regretting his decisions, Sebastian agrees to join MI6 to atone for his sins.
