Seiran Hoshi is the main antagonist of the anime movie Detective Conan: The Last Wizard of the Century/Case Closed: The Last Wizard of the Century. To the people she is known as a researcher for the history of the Romanov Dynasty, but she is also known as Scorpion, a killer who shots her victims in the right eye.
She was voiced by the late Toshiko Fujita.
Biography[]
She made her first appearance as one of the guests invited by Shiro Suzuki when it was revealed that Shiro recently obtained an Imperial Easter Egg, which belongs to the Imperial Family, The Romanovs. During a small argument between Shoichi Inui and Sergei Ovchinnikov about the ownership of the Egg, Ryu Sagawa notice that Serian doesn't make a bid for the egg herself for her research as she replied that she can't come up with more money than both Sergei and Shoichi. Afterwords she and the others left.
She later seen (in "The Criminal" Shadow appearance) when Kaitou Kid stole the egg (which he knew the real egg was with inspector Nakamori at an old warehouse), only to aim her gun at Kaitou Kid's right eye, resulting in him falling into the river and believing to have killed him. She later appeared again on the Suzuki yacht where the egg would be sent back to Tokyo after the incident with Kid. While sailing she hears the story Natsumi Kousaka and her great-grandfather; Kiichi Kousaka, who she believed was the one who created Imperial Easter Egg and another one that could not be found.
She then witnesses the discovery that Conan founded with one of the tiny glasses from the bottom of egg, which revealed it to actually be a magic mirror as she explained that what it was used for, and on it a picture of Yokosuka Castle, which Kiichi built the castle and believed this is where the second egg is located. Then when Natsumi as Kogoro to accompany her to the castle, Serian and the others all asked if they could go too, which Conan notice that they all have the same look in their eyes as they also want the egg also.
On the boat, Sonoko and Conan arrived at Seiran's cabin to invite her to hang out, which she agreed and said she need to get her purse. Conan and Sonoko notice a picture facing the other way with the word "Grigori" on it and Sonoko assume it's the name of her boyfriend, which she said yes and put the photo down. While hanging Ran notice that Serian has grey eyes (similar to Natsumi's as she said that she got grey eyes like her mother and grandmother since both were Russian) and Sonoko thinks grey eyes must also come from Chinese family. Ran also notice that Seiran's name is Kaji means "Blue Orchid" and Seiran also mention that while her in Chinese is "Pusu Ching Ran". She even revealed that Ran and Sonoko name in Chinese is "Maoli Ran" and "Lingmu Yuanzu" and that both she and Natsumi are the same age with their birthdays only being 2 days apart (Natsumi on May 3rd and Seiran on May 5th). As the sun set Seiran, Natsumi and Conan are seen walking together (as a reference to the fact that all three of them were born on May as Conan revealed earlier that he was born on May 4th) as they see Kogoro, Shiro and Ryu having a beer, which caused Kogoro to help Serian with her sit. Kogoro also mention her legs upon seeing them cross and offer her a drink.
Seiran notice a pin around Ryu's neck, which she took a close look at it and believed it to the ring of Maria of the Romanov family, which Ryu refused to admit if it real or not. Kogoro then asked Serian if it real or not and she said she needs to closer look on it. That night Serina (who appears yet again in "The Criminal" appearance) arrived at Ryu's cabin and shot him in the right eye with a silencer and took the necklace and left it in Nishino's room to frame him, only for Conan to save him by revealing that Nishino is allergic to feathers, which prove he didn't do it since feathers from the pillows from Ryu's room were found in the crime scene and Shiro confirm it.
The Next Day Serina and the others arrived at Yokosuka Castle, where they begin to search the other egg. She witnesses Shoichi's attempted to steal some treasure from the castle, only to learn that a trap was created not only to trap an intruder but also scare them with daggers. Later Serina and the others about a secret passage in the floor as they tried to figure out the code to open it but since the code is in Russian, they had Sergei write it. After a few failed attempts, Conan suggested the phrase Natsumi remember when she was a child might be the code and Serina guessed it to be "The Last Wizard of the Century" and upon putting it in the code, the door opened to reveal the passage.
In the secret passage, Seirna and the others found the hidden crypt where they found the egg and the corpse of great-grandmother. After Ayumi then told the others that red egg could be like a Matryoshka Doll and need the other one but since the other one is with Shiro Suzuki, they don't know what would happen, only for Shiratori to reveal that he "borrowed" the egg without asking for it. Upon placing both eggs together and putting a light on them, it was revealed that the eggs are actually photos of the Romanov family, including a picture of Natsumi's Great-Grandparents.
Seiran (in again in "The Criminal" appearance) then took out her gun and attempted to shoot both Kogoro and Ran in their right eyes, only for Conan to saved them both as he chased her up the passage after she stole the egg, and after she killed Shoichi in the right eye. Seiran then close the passage, only for Conan to find a hidden stone that opened the door. In "The Knights Room" Seiran then poured gas as she tries to burn down the castle with anyone still inside. Conan (using his bowtie) then called out the killer as she took out her gun and tries to find the people who escape. Conan then revealed that Seiran (who appearance is finally shown as the real killer) is not Chinese but rather Russian and is the descendant of Grigori Rasputin.
During the fire, Conan (still using his bowtie and confusing Seiran, causing her to waste her bullets) explained as Ryu, that her Chinese name is "Pusu Ching Ran" which is an anagram for the Chinese word for Rasputin. This shocked her as she couldn't believe that Ryu figured it out as she claimed to have killed him back on the boat. Conan then explained in Shiratori voice that she believed that the lost treasure belongs to her because her ancestor shared a deep connection with the imperial family. Conan then revealed in Shoichi's voice that while under the alias "Scorpion" she shoots people in the right eye similar to how her ancestor was killed, which shocked her even more as she thought she killed him too.
Conan then revealed himself to Seiran and explained the bowtie, which caused her to ask who Conan is. Conan then explain the motives of killing the others. The first being Ryu due to what happened on the boat. When Ryu was recording people's reaction of him with his camera, she notices that she forgot to put the photo of her Ancestor down as she believed that if Ryu saw the photo, he could figure out that she was related to him. Next, she killed Shoichi because he saw her preparing her handgun beforehand. And lastly for her attempted to kill Kogoro was because he insulted him and called him one of the greatest villains in history, which she took offense of it.
While impressed that he figured it out, Seiran plans to get away but not before killing Conan by shooting him in the eye. Conan then mention that the gun she is holding can hold up 8 bullets and she used all of them (three for shooting people and the five she shot during the fire), but Seiran also added that if there's already a bullet in the gun, she would actually have nine instead. Conan then called her bluff and she decide to shoot instead. However, upon learning that the bullet bounces off of Conan's glasses (thanks to the Bullet Proof Lenses Dr. Agasa put in Conan's glasses), she attempted to reload, only for a playing card to appear out of nowhere and hit her hand, causing her to drop the gun and for Conan to use his sneakers to kick a helmet at her, knocking her out.
She was last seen when Shiratori arrived and carried her body as Conan revealed to the others that Seiran was taken away and that she's the Scorpion. (Which made Kogoro sad that a beautiful woman like her is a killer.)
