“ | Prince Ephraim, you cannot understand. I know the path I'm given is foolish. Yet I am a knight, and I have no other. | „ |
~ Selena to Ephraim. |
“ | I humbly acknowledge your orders. Your Majesty... I am the empire's servant. I am Your Majesty's vassal. I am General Selena, the Fluorspar of the Grado Empire. | „ |
~ Selena to Emperor Vigarde; her most famous quote. |
Selena, also known as the Flourspar, is a major antagonist in Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. Selena is one of the Grado Empire's Imperial Three generals, being promoted following Valter's exile from the role.
She is voiced by Yurina Watanabe in Japanese version, and by Tiana Camacho in English version.
Personality[]
For being helped and later raised by Emperor Vigarde himself (who was still a benevolent man back then), Selena was grateful to the Emperor fiercely loyal to him and firmly stood at his side even after discovering there was something wrong with the Emperor and Prince Lyon.
Due to her experiences as well as her upbringing, Selena was also dedicated to help the weak and tried to make the world a better place, which earned her respect from Grado's people.
However, unlike Cormag, Duessel and Glen (who all defected or attempted to do so at least), Selena's overwhelming loyalty blinded her judgement. During the War of Stones, Selena kept her oath no matter what the cost.
Selena's loyalty caused her to disregard her own feelings, and she chose to stay on the corrupted Vigarde's side, not accepting the fact that her beloved Emperor was now merely a husk that served as Fomortiis' puppet. This eventually led to her tragic demise, despite Ephraim's party being reluctant to kill her.
It is also speculated, judging from her final words, that Selena's death was her attempt to atone her crimes and end her dilemma via her own death. In other words, it is possible that she deliberately commit suicide by the main protagonists, rather than merely resisting them for blind loyalty towards the now-corrupted Grado. This brought her both an honorable death as the original Vigarde's knight, and a self-inflicted punishment for her involvement within the empire's war of invasion.

“ | Ephraim: Are you Selena? Selena: Indeed I am. And you are Prince Ephraim. Ephraim: I know you've spoken with Myrrh. Withdraw your troops. You must know the emperor is not rational! Selena: Yes, I know. Ephraim: Then why? Why do we still fight? Selena: I am a general of the empire. His majesty's word is law. Ephraim: That's ridiculous. You know the emperor is deranged, and yet you follow his orders?! Is that truly loyalty? Selena: Prince Ephraim, you cannot understand. I know the path I'm given is foolish. Yet I am a knight, and I have no other. Ephraim: Selena, please! I have no wish to see you die here! Selena: Me? Die? Prince Ephraim, you misunderstand me. I have no intention of dying. Madness though it may be, I will be the one doing the killing today. |

“ | Duessel: Well met, Selena. Selena: General Duessel... I must offer you my apologies. I called you a traitor, but I was mistaken. Your loyalty never wavered, not for an instant. Duessel: ...... Selena: And yet you must know that I have no intention of withdrawing. So let us not waste words. Let us settle this with steel, my friend. Duessel: That's how it is to be, then? One of us dies by the other's hands? Selena: Yes. It's the path I've chosen. I have no regrets. Duessel: I see... Well. I, too, must follow the path that I have chosen. Selena: Very well. |
