Selena is a major antagonist in the third volume of the light novel series Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina, and episode 9, "A Deep Sorrow from the Past", of its anime adaptation of the same name. She was a wealthy young girl who lived in the Clock Village of Rostolf and was Estelle's best friend. However, during her childhood, she became an infamous serial killer after she was abused by her parents and was executed for their murder.
In the anime, she was voiced by Tomori Kusunoki in the Japanese version and by Tia Ballard in the English version.
Personality[]
Selena portrays herself as a somewhat easily frightened, kind hearted and shy girl. But in reality, she is a manipulative murderer and bloodthirsty girl, killing her parents and uncle for a thrill. She seems to be a sadomasochist as she takes pleasure in taking the lives of others and being attacked by Estelle. The abuse from her parents and uncle snapped her into a nihilistic and misanthropic serial killer that hates the world and everything in it, even her best friend Estelle, who was the only person to show her any affection.
Biography[]
Early life[]
During her childhood, Selena and Estella had a friendly relationship, who sees the former as a happy and loving sister. But in reality, Selena was a broken girl who was sexually abused by her father while her mother either ignored her or beat her out of jealousy. After she murders them, her uncle took her in, also abusing Selena. In return, she stabbed him multiple times and went on a killing spree. Estelle, not knowing about her best friend's torment, believes that Selena only became a murderer after killing her uncle. After capturing Selena, Estella executed her under the order of the king for the murder of her parents and uncle.
Current events[]
Elaina and Estelle arrive three years in the past through the use of time travel magic and meet Selena. Estelle apologizes to Selena for not being able to save her and vows to save her this time. Selena says goodbye while Estelle goes off to find and save Selena's parents.
Later at sunset, Elaina finds Selena in a alley, standing in a hellscape of flames, blood and the corpses of her parents and Estelle, and turns to face Elaina, and laughs with blood covering her teeth while stomping on Estelle's body. Selena tells Elaina that her parents were abusive and pretended to be a happy family who lived in a broken home. She asks who Elaina was, the latter tells her that she and Estella came from the future to save her from becoming a murderer. Selena is amused by this and charges at Elaina. However, Estelle overheard the exchange and throws Selena to a wall. Heartbroken by this, Estelle uses her magic to attack Selena and burns the memories of her in order to kill her. Once the clock strikes six, Selena's corpse fall to the ground and the witches returned to the present.
After these events, this created an alternate timeline where Selena is never executed and Elaina never experienced the time travel magic with Estelle.
